And aren’t you relieved…
Around the corner from my house is a little local’s breakfast place called The Menu which is enough of a casual place that it’s not unusual for the hungover 20-somethings to wander in on weekend mornings wearing pajama bottoms, hoodies and slippers. Mrs TBogg, the L&T Casey and I have eaten there for years because: a) the food is good, b) it’s a block away and c) it’s relatively tourist and child-free which counts for a lot in my book. Recently, along with Cholula and Tapitio hot sauces which are pretty much ubiquitous around these parts, they started offering Gringo Bandido Hot Sauce which is, to put it mildly, unbelievably awesome. It’s not just hot (yet not too hot), it has extraordinary flavor partly because it’s all natural. Checking out the label last week, I discovered that it’s the creation of Dexter Holland, lead singer of SoCal punk band The Offspring. A little intertube work later we discovered that it has somewhat limited distribution in Southern California, but it can be purchased online.
You can read more about it here, but seriously, and I don’t usually recommend stuff like this, it’s pretty freaking amazing. Like, “use it with every meal” amazing.
…and now, some Offspring:

My favorite is a simple one.

Simple. Hot.
Cayenne increases circulation and is a serious natural healer.
Tastes good on everything but ice cream.
Oh, thank you TBogg. anything but Breitbart and um, phalluses (yeah, sorry, I was raised to be a prude. I can speak certain taboo words but somehow typing them is harder.)
Anyway, I appreciate this as simply a “not….” thread. I like hot food after 25 yrs in Texas, but not so much as to seek out sauces. Still…this is the fist time you’ve ever done something like this…hmmmm.
Casual?
That’s formal here in HippyTown USA which, come to think of it, might explain some of the high unemployment.
You mean it’s relatively child-free when you are not there with your, uh, child.
(I do that myself: “Why can’t these OTHER parents go to McDonalds with their shitty little kids??”)
Tempe and Tucson – I’ll consider it. But I’d use this instead of redorgreen chile, right?
Red goes on meat, green chili goes on cheese – as on your mac’n'cheese, after you already made the cheese sauce with Tabasco.
The website informs us that the hot sauce is “easy on the pooper, too.” Not sure I needed that appetizing detail.
In fairness to tbogg, the L&TC has not been a “child” in the “tantrum-over-a-spilt-sippy-cup” sense of the word for quite some time.
Now that my own kids are halfway grown up, I can kinda see the occasional appeal in a place that isn’t overrun with tiny, loud, unreasonable toddlers and their less-than-capable or simply overwhelmed parents, who are fully aware that their kid is personally responsible for the misery at tables five thru 11, but just can’t be bothered to do anything about it and secretly hopes that the waiter sporting the patronizing eye roll will simply take little Joey away to the kitchen along with the half-eaten enchilada that he insisted on smearing on the wall when his sister threw it at him.
There’s a time and place for kids, certainly (though taking them to McDonald’s is child abuse in my book), and sometimes NOT.
That stuff is going to taste great on my weekly tamales. Some old dude delivers them to my door on Sunday afternoon, a buck a tamale. Large fresh and stuffed with pork. I usually just use the Tapatio.

You are welcome. Be warned, it is ass-kicking hot though. Don’t get it from amazon, you should be able to find it somewhere in San Diego.
I just ordered mine. I love El Yucateo, and can get it easily where I live. Cholula and Tapatio are okay, but don’t excite. Tobasco has a nice vinegary kick that’s good for greens and for rice, simple but nice. Amazon Hot Sauce, first plugged by Randy Wayne White, is my favorite in a collection that exceeds 150 bottles. I’m looking forward to seeing what the new kid’s got.
Hmm. It seems like I lived right around the corner from Casa Bogg for five years during the early naughts and I never knew it. I think I might have recognized the beasties if I’d seen them since I knew you all were in Pac Beach. I guess I never wandered around the neighborhood while the boyz were being taken on their walks. Makes sense – I try not to be mobile before 9am and I’d guess the dogs are early risers even if they siesta-fy for the rest of the day.
The only time I saw bassets in San Diego was about 10 years ago at a Columbus Day(?) street fair in downtown – Little Italy. I remember being amused by a gaggle of about half a dozen bassets lolling about right next to a street painting exhibition (cool chalk paintings in the roadway).
I’ve had burgers ‘n beer in Rocky’s next to ‘The Menu’ but never wandered into that particular place. Too many Brazilians in PJs.
Miss SD.
Well, if it’s just hot you want. I bought a bottle of this stuff. It’s pretty hot. In fact it will make you cry and not be able to talk.

Holy crap, wild, and thanks. Some of the stores that carry it are nearby…
Wow. This new hot sauce totally changes the character of my Breakfast-Mary.
