Everybody now bring your family down to the riverside

Jesus lamprey Rick Warren, author of The Profit Purpose Driven Life, once again tips his hand that he is a closet asshole:
Yesterday famed “Christian” pastor Rick Warren, wealthy author and megachurch leader, tweeted the following:
“HALF of America pays NO taxes. Zero. So they’re happy for tax rates to be raised on the other half that DOES pay any taxes.”
After a firestorm ignited decrying this egregious mix of selfishness and ignorance, Mr. Warren deleted his tweet. But the screenshot is preserved for Internet eternity.
I’m old enough to remember when 10% of Warren’s “flock” were out of work and you know who was really hurting? Rick Warren.
“Dear Saddleback Family,” begins today’s missive from Warren. “THIS IS AN URGENT LETTER unlike any I’ve written in 30 years. Please read all of it and get back to me in the next 48 hours. “I have thrilling news to share with you below but first some seriously bad news: With 10% of our church family out of work due to the recession, our expenses in caring for our community in 2009 rose dramatically while our income stagnated. Still, with wise management, we’ve stayed close to our budget all year. Then… this last weekend the bottom dropped out.
By ‘caring for our community” Warren means “keeping me fat and sassy”.

Well, for one thing, a true servant of God would speak to the needs of the poor, not criticize them for not paying taxes. He also needs to STFU about governing and keep his political views to himself.
Now more than ever we need to get rid of the tax exemption for churches. It’s time for bloated gasbags like Rick Warren to pay up and shut his piehole about other people not paying taxes.
Sad how obvious a flim-flam man as this greasy character makes a fool of folks.
Better watch out, preacherman! Your Eau de Rat is starting to smell.
Now more than ever we need to get rid of the tax exemption for churches.
AMEN!
Apart from being odious, the statement if FALSE. About half of taxpayers pay no income tax, but they do pay the payroll tax, sales taxes, etc.
The right wing always talks about the income tax, and chooses not to consider other, regressive taxes.
Brokeback Church provides Rev. Rick with a very nice income I’m sure, to say nothing of the multiple millions his “books” bring in. Isn’t there any way he can avoid taxes by offshoring himself? He sure looks like he would float easily.
I’ll see your Elton John/Bernie Taupin and raise you the only Bob Marley song I ever care if I hear again:
I feel like bombing a church
Now that you know that the preacher is lying
We just have to remember that with famous persons of the “cloth”, hypocrisy is a sacrament.
And as an addition to the cobernicus post, we would do well to remind everyone that persons with $2,000,000 salaries only have a .003% Social Security tax burden.
Trying to soak his wealthier rubes in an effort to pick up the slack for the destitute rubes? Damn commie.
It takes some serious cognitive dissonance – not to mention being a hypocritical asshole – to be the so-called “pastor” of some faux Christian tax-exempt megachurch, and then bitch about how poor people don’t pay taxes and therefore suck all of Jeebus’ golden blessings from those who are truly needy – namely, his
marksfollowers – and then waste it on food, clothing and shelter.Rick Warren decided a long time ago that he was too fat to pass through the eye of a needle, so he might as well worship Mammon and fleece the sheep.
I too remember the lean dustbowl days of 2009. I believe poor pastor Rick was forced to wear the same faux-Hawaiian shirt (untucked over his ample pigbelly) more than once !
Truly, God must have loved the poor to have made them such lucky duckies.
“No, really, tell me: does this self-righteous smirk make me look fat?”
How painfully appropriate that this hypocritical windbag was the one Sir Change-a-Lot picked to bless him at his coronation. Birds of a feather and all that… “Screw the poor. We’ve got ours and our rich friends’ got theirs, so, really, who gives a shit?”
Arrogant ChuckTodd-faced fuck.
I think he may want to check a few verses in Matthew. I am especially fond of Matthew 25:31-46.
WHOA! You went THERE? Daaayummmmm.
That’s what gets me – they all carry around Bibles and NEVER READ THE DAMN THINGS.
Other than Deuteronomy, that is.
THIS is the screwball Obama invited to perform the invocation at his inauguration, after the nut supported prop 8. Now I guess they agree on the poor, since Obama wants to cut our Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. It’s not like we pay taxes, right, Pastor Rick™?
Went “there?”
Google “teddy partridge rick warren” to see where I been.
Keep in mind the right wing arguement against taxing business is that they don’t pay taxes themselves anyway…only passing them on to consumers.
The half that reportedly don’t pay any income taxes certainly DO consume and thus pay corporations income taxes.
+2
I remember that letter of 12.09. Can’t believe it’s been that long. Whatever happened? Well, never read that the church was foreclosed on, so I guess his rich
marksparishioners. How do these guys live with themselves? Every once in awhile I think maybe I’m doing it wrong…should just figure out a scam and dump the conscience….
Unbelievable.
I’m ecstatic he felt the need to delete the tweet.
They are pretty big on Revelations and the more authoritarian and misogynist parts of Paul, as well (they love them some hallucinatory psychotics).
Yes, Obama picked this hate-filled jagoff.
Who the very next week went before the cameras to loudly denounce Obama for his leftist ways.
I could not figure out why Obama wanted this shithead charlatan at his inauguration–especially when Warren had already stated publicly how much he disliked Obama in particular and Democrats in general. Now I understand that our president suffers from serious Stockholm Syndrome, which is why his negotiating style is to pre-emptively give up.
Well, that’s because those hollowed out books are filled with hookers and blow and dildos and a wet suit or two. Oh, and some hog-tyin’ rope.
i agree 50% don’t pay taxes – that’s because they are UNEMPLOYED.
Rick Warren discovers half of the people of the United States don’t earn enough income to be taxed on it and reveals the depths of his ‘Christian ethos’ by whining about it.
So Pious
.
I think it’s summarized as ‘megachurch, microChristian’.
Apparently eats well, too.
They have that one wrong, too. Idjits.
Corporations pay sales taxes on what they by, property taxes on their real estate, they pay for the registrations and licenses on their vehicles, and, in at least some jurisdictions, if they have stuff in public property, they pay taxes on that. The money will come from their revenues, which are paid by their customers, but that’s corporate income – and part of it is going back out to those same customers as paychecks.
The Church of Grifter pays no tax.
Not only did Rick Warren do the invocation at the inauguration but he also was the “moderator” for a “religious” “debate” between McCain and Obama. [Scare quotes because none of those words actually relate to what happened on that occasion.]
Oleaginous Rick looks like he’s doing pretty well out of the sales tax exemption on groceries.
I would seriously reconsider my believe in a God if he’d just give me a sign….like rapturing everyone one of these con-artists off the planet. Add in the entire Republican Party and we might yet come to find heaven on earth.
Oh, he’s read his Matthew, and here’s his favorite:
Yeah, I’m wondering how much Obama sent in response to this plea.
Rick Warren writes: while our income stagnated.
Way to Rock the Flock, Rick: give ‘em a corporatespeak euphemism for “broke”.
Derelict writes: I could not figure out why Obama wanted this shithead charlatan at his inauguration–especially when Warren had already stated publicly how much he disliked Obama in particular and Democrats in general.
I very much doubt that Obama gives a shit about or for that matter is even aware of the existence of Rick Warren.
Yours is a litle reminiscent of the claims that Obama and Bill Ayers are BFFs who take lots of windy walks together.
A lot of them seem to have read a line or two of Leviticus, also. But only the same, tired couple of lines.
Wait… so are you saying that Rick Warren just crashed the inauguration bash and somehow made his way up to the mike when it came time to bless the new Pope of America? Srsly, Obama has to have known who was there to do the Jesus thing on his big day — to think otherwise is simply delusional. Otherwise we might just as well assume that he has no idea Tim Geithner is running his economy…
Warren recants, Fox News un-recants for him.
Oh, I am so stealing that!
May I? Pls? (I’ll give credit in writing)
Thanks, ThingWarbler, I deserved that. I look at what I wrote last night and wonder what, or rather who the hell was I thinking of when I wrote it, because it sure as hell wasn’t Rick Warren, who I know actually had a fairly cordial relationship with Obama back then (now, maybe not so much!)
In any case, it was a stunningly stupid thing to say. Let’s call it a major brain fart, and pray it does not happen often. In the meantime, please accept my deepest apologies for being such a dope. You too, Derelict.
That’s soooo accurate. That’s one for the ages. Double Snap!
