Well, it can’t have been for the other reason schoolboys are popular with priests. Douthat doesn’t look as though he’d have been an especially winsome young lad.

I think (not sure, and not bothering to check because why waste a minute on it?) Rossie was an adult convert, so he missed out on all the hot priest-on-boy action in his youth. In fact, I wonder if that’s why he converted? God knows, there’s no fanatic like a converted fanatic.
Yes, converts make ‘cradle Catholics’ look like Unitarians by comparison, it’s as if they want to prove they’re worthy of a club that they think deep down inside they’re not fit spiritually to join.
