One of the charms of the internets is that when a budding Pat Forde writes for his college newspaper at Podunk State, and he is bad … he is also nationwide:
Tim Tebow, the most hyped and most loved player to come out of college in recent years, has now reached an all-time low. He is now the third, possibly fourth-string, quarterback on a team that would have a hard time beating the 2008 Detroit Lions. He won’t be the starter week one in Denver, and likely won’t get a chance all season long.
This is brutally unfair and horrendously stupid of John Fox, John Elway and the entire Broncos organization. I believe Tebow should be the starter, no questions asked. Without giving him a chance, the Donkeys are just wasting a first-round pick that they moved up and traded to get.
[...]
People say Kyle Orton is the better choice for the Broncos. I don’t understand that at all. Three weeks ago John Elway and John Fox almost traded Orton to the Miami Dolphins. If that had went through, Tebow would have been named the starter. How does he magically go from the starter to third string in only three weeks of training camp? It can’t be based off of preseason games because he performed well in all three games and has yet to throw an interception.People (John Fox) say he won’t fit into the system. Another person who “didn’t fit into the system” was Vince Young. Vince Young was unfairly benched by his coach Jeff Fisher without being given a fair chance. Young was 30-17 as a starter in Tennessee, won rookie player of the year, and was a two time Pro Bowl selection. Young was thrown under the bench (TBogg: WTF?) just like Tebow . Young was at least given a second chance as a backup for the Philadelphia Eagles. Hopefully someone will take the chance on Tebow like Andy Reid did with Young.
The Broncos’ organization is making no sense to me and is quickly turning into the Cincinnati Bengals and Oakland Raiders when it comes to poor management choices. If the Broncos can finally come to their senses and play Tebow, they might be able to win the AFC West within the next three years.
For those who have never listened to sports talk radio, this is every third caller….

As the resident Bronco fan, this needs be said:
That picture? Never gets old.
If the Broncos can finally come to their senses and play Tebow, they might be able to win the AFC West within the next three years.
They could win their whole division, beating out three entire other teams – and in a mere three years?!? Holy crap! Sure, the Tebow-haters say it can’t be done, but dream mile-high, I say!
Mr. Giefer might, indeed, be the third caller on the line.
However, if you look critically at the thing, it would appear that someone at the Podunk State Bleader took the time to re-write the lede.
Why?
Because it actually makes a certain prosaic sense.
Unlike, say, the rest of the mishmash that is Mr. Giefer’s copy.
.
Have to agree there – Denver did choose the Juicester in the draft.
I can’t understand why the Miami Herald has not drafted this guy.
Junior may have stumbled upon a video game goldmine!
Madden’s NFL TimeMachine: The Shittiest Team Suckfest.
Podunk State Daily Howler needs a new editor as well as another sportswriter, although I suppose whoever did edit the piece is to be forgiven for having thrown in the towel by that point.
Interestingly enough, the same paper at least carries a contrary opinion …
… but where in the world is Fort Hays State University anyway?? And perhaps more to the point, who really cares?
For those who won’t get out of the boat for this one (can’t say as I blame you) the article linked above ends as follows:
I work with a very smart guy who doesn’t get the past perfect tense. He is not, however, seeking a career in writing.
With that level of journamalistic style on display, I’m stunned that $arah Palin hasn’t attended a semester at Podunk State Collage of Fancy Sports Writin’ Also.
The article itself has the quality of a fine white whine, reminiscent of a letter to the editor of a small town weekly. I’ll at least give him a point for not blaming Juicebox Jeebus’ suckitude on that durn LIEBRUL MEEDIA!!1!
he had a nice drive last night and a sweet td pass. also, too, he’s the highest rated passer coming out of the preseason. i hate christian nutjobs as much as the next dfh but the hate and criticism of tboww is getting ridiculous.
he’s not a bad passer and can run. give him another year or two and he will succeed.
In the entire NFL?
On the upside, it’s very possible that on Cody’s planet they have rational politicians and no greenhouse gas emissions.
So it’s like a trade-off. Or something…
mikey
on the broncos.. not saying much
(a) That’s a classic ‘nother example of the Concorde Fallacy, or as Prof. Dokt. Krugman likes to say, the “sunk costs” fallacy – when you’ve invested a lot of (emotional) capital in something, you simply can’t admit that it stinks on ice.
(b) you’re dating yourself with that nice ref to Beard and the beard bros. So, how sharp do you dress any more? I was tempted to do a “‘come to their senses’, (hold me tight, love me like they used to do)” Little Feat ref in response, but I feared that nobody would pick up on that, leaving me just hanging there looking stupid…
I have to agree with the outstanding Cody Giefer, the Broncos should start Tebow right now. Because:
A) They wasted a first round pick on him, management deserves to see just how bad he is.
B) It’ll give them the best possible shot at drafting Andrew Luck.
I don’t understand how anyone could disagree with this.
Fort Hays State is in Hays Kansas and is the fastest growing Kansas Board of Regents universities
The angels weep, the Pharisees rejoice and SATAN rules! It’s only because Tim loves Jesus and Jesus loves Tim that he can’t get a fair shake. You know who else can’t get a fair shake? White Christian men, that’s who, because Fake America, the one run by libtards and college professors and sandal-wearing-seal-savers keep good Christian men down!
Sure, Orton threw for nearly 4,000 yards last season and is considered a consummate pro who brings skill, poise and experience to the position — the most important position on the field — but have you ever seen him chop the tips off little Filipino dicks, well, have ya?!!!11!!!!
Sure Orton has thrown for more than 12,000 yards in his career so far, with 71 TDs and 48 INTs and completed nearly 60% of his passes, he just can’t spout random quotes from Ephesians, cure the ill with a simple glance and make 13-year old girls who are headed to the purity ball with their dads wiggle, squiggle and squirm with Lordly desire.
As spectator of all things sporty, I have never underestimated Tebow, the kid has a drive that is undeniable and I’m still convinced he can play in the NFL but he aint gonna do it from under center.
If that had went through
It can’t be based off of preseason games
Maybe KLo is moonlighting as “Editrix” at Podunk State?
Can he take a snap from center?
As a Vikings fan, I insist that the Broncos start Tebow on December 4. Assuming he doesn’t mind playing on the Lord’s day and all.
A good drive during garbage time in a meaningless game against guys who’ll probably be on the practice squad or bagging groceries by next week is not exactly inspiring.
I’m hearing that kind of construction on local tv news more and more often.
Of course, I watch local tv news less and less often….
Next generation is going to assume that’s standard English.
The subjunctive may be gone entirely by then, too. It is in my local 3rd and 4th-generation immigrant Spanish, as well as all the perfect tenses.
Present, past and future.
I see the future of English ending up the same way.
Sigh.
Oh, and TBogg, I take it you escaped from the cube in time to get some sleep?
look guys, i’m a flaming dirty fucking hippy brooklyn liberal. i hate the south and christians with a passion second only to my love for the florida gators and i’m here to tell you you’re all wrong and being swayed by your hate for the people who go crazy for tboww.
seriously, the guy can throw. i could post endless youtube clips of him making amazing throws in small spaces but it would do no good. it’s too much fun to take shots at him. but trust, he will be successful in the nfl as a qb. his mix of running and throwing is hard to gameplan against and i think he can take the hits which is what traditionally limits a running qb in the nfl. and he really is a gamer. the guy just gets pumped and in the zone and takes it to another level on gameday. believe it.
but i don’t want to spoil the fun. juicebox jesus is a great line. just know, i’ll be back to rub your noses in it (unless you ban me like digby) when he eventually shows what he can do. not saying it will be this year because he still needs to improve but it will happen and i base this not on faith or some love of jeebus, i base it on watching him dominate high level defenses for 4 years.
go gata!
Weren’t Gator fans saying the same thing about Rex Grossman?
I’m just sayin’…Florida has not had a good track record of turning out NFL-caliber QBs.
Here’s the problem for JuiceBox. A “high level” college defense is nothing like an NFL defense. Especially week after week.
It is if we’re talking about Mike Vick. JuiceBox is no Vick. JuiceBox is going to get absolutely destroyed if he tries to improvise, run and take hits and NFL defensive coordinators are hoping he does just that, as are any number of linebackers and free safeties.
It’s a dangerous fucking sport, it’s obvious he’s not ready and, hopefully, he won’t be carted off on a stretcher because he’s too pumped for his own good. It’s happened before….
Maybe because once training camp started , and John Fox got to actually see Timmeh in action , he decided that there was no fucking way that he was going to let JuiceBox Jebus anywhere NEAR the starting lineup.
Ummmmm….
It isn’t any worse than the amateur sportswriter for my college newspaper, who came up with ‘after he had ran down the court’.
That’s it in a nutshell. Tebow might have been the greatest college football player I’ve ever seen and I’m not sure he’s not the best college player I’ve ever seen, period. But the NFL is a drastically different game, especially for quarterbacks. If Tebow does not succeed, he will not be the first nor the last quarterback who had great success in college but failed in the pros.
Shorter Cody:
“leave Timmy allllllooooooonnnnne!”
clearly we disagree but mike vick is no tboww.
Travy, you’re still not getting it. You’re making the same mistake that NFL teams persist in making about Heisman-winning QB’s, namely that college achievements have anything at all to do with the pro level. I watched Ryan Leaf play in college, and I swore he was going to be an NFL Hall-of-Famer. I learned my lesson, and haven’t made the same mistake since.
When it comes to the draft, NFL teams can be as cowardly as politicians. If there’s a Heisman-winner on the board, it doesn’t matter if he’s even a good fit for their team, they feel they have to at least consider him, because, my gosh, what will the fans and the press say if they pass up a Heisman winner?
I disagree. College achievements certainly figure into the equation along with how well the players do at the scouting combines. In the case of Tebow, he had a fantastic college career but a horrific combine which turned off the NFL teams… except for Denver. Tebow getting drafted high was the exception, not the rule.
.
By the by, you are far from the only one who was wrong about Leaf. Plenty of people thought he was going to be great and more than a few didn’t think there was a dime’s worth of difference between Leaf and Peyton Manning. (A brain doctor tried to talk Bobby Beathard out of drafting him but every football person in the room thought that was crazy. And on the subject of Ryan Leaf’s brain… my thoughts and prayers are with him.
it takes a few seasons for qb’s to develop so you don’t know he’ll fail anymore than i know he’ll succeed. i don’t have to post all the great ones rookie season stats to prove this so seriously get off your high horse. saying he’s a failure after so little play is just as crazy as saying he’ll be tom brady if he just got the chance.
all i’m saying is he’s a great football player with an unusual mix of skills physical attributes and a great instinct for the game. that may translate into success or it might not but try and keep the politics out of the sports. it’s a little more fun that way, dig?
Seriously, that sportswriter’s name is Cody Geefer?
No, no point to make. It’s just funny is all.
Geefer. :: giggle ::
Not entirely off-topic and only indirectly a mildly snarky complaint, here’s a Saturday morning non-random

Yes, but he’s being paid 1st-round money ($11,000,000-$33,000,000 over 5 years). How patient can the bean counters be waiting for ROI? If you were talking mid-to-late 2nd-round money then it’s a different equation…..
Maybe Tebow’s best hope is that the Broncos really suck….
He could get cut, depending on how much he counts against the salary cap.
See B and F here.
His cap hit should be about $800,000 more than Orton’s…
I think you could make a case that Tebow should just get the start. The Broncos are going to suck anyway, and how many times are we going to hear his brainwashed fans say, “They should put in Tebow” after every loss. Let him blow 4 or 5 games and we’ll never have to worry about him again.
For the same reason, I’m getting ready to just vote for Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin or whichever nimrod the Republicans put up. Let’s not sit around watching slow-motion trainwrecks. We’re doomed. Let’s just fast-forward to where Rome burns and start over sooner rather than later.
Bingo – if you’re getting 1st round money and you’re a QB, you’re expected not to need time to “develop” (or at most need 1 year backing up a strong veteran). You’re the guy riding in on the white horse to save the franchise, so you better be ready to go in a hurry.
Part of the problem was Florida’s offensive system was vastly different than an NFL system. Florida played way more out of the gun and in spread formations than most teams in the NFL. Much like Andy Dalton at TCU and Colin Kaepernick at Nevada, Tebow benefited statistically from playing in a system that demanded the first option on almost every play be to throw it. But like Dalton and Kaepernick, his statistics are inflated because the offense was schemed to play to his strengths.
Within the first ten picks, yes. Late first round? Not so much.
