Just when you thought the bloggerminions of Andrew Breitbart had finally broken the the “too stupid to breathe” barrier and mankind could go no further, another one huffs a can of Krylon, and “Breitbart Big Exclusive!!1!“:
President Obama delivered his weekly address to the nation from Detroit, Michigan this week after visiting workers at a GM assembly plant. When the video hit at Breitbart.tv, our tip box suddenly became very active with people claiming that the President was actually sitting in front of a green screen and the background image was really a composite image of an assembly line.
O’Connor cites “several experts in the field” who are the kind of people who get their information from Big Government, so you know they have to be a brain trust, but I wanted independent validation of this Very Important Story Upon Which The The Next Election Would Hinge. So I turned to Big Brain Bryan over at PJ Media who is, as he grudgingly admits, sorta of a right-wing Haskell Wexler/Gordon Willis/Caleb Deschanel (but without the hot daughters). Bryan holds up his fingers like a frame, screws one eye closed, studies the footage and….:
I’ve been doing green screen video effects for about 15 years, starting at NASA and then for Hot Air. So I’ve done hundreds of productions using green screen technology, in a variety of settings and using a variety of gear. And in my opinion, the president’s video was shot using a green screen.
There are a couple of giveaways. One is the lack of real depth of field in the shot. The background looks flat and unreal, kind of lifeless — like a photograph. No light flickers, no movement at all. If he was really in the factory, a competent lighting director would probably light him and it to show some separation and depth, by having the factory be noticeably darker than the foreground subject. There are also digital artifacts around his shoulders and head, the kind of artifacts one tends to see in even the best green screens. You can see them in the close-ups, mainly around the left side of his head. It looks like they used virtual set tech to get the long shots and close-ups to look believable, but it’s pretty much a fail.
As Charles Johnson points out, there does seem to be some photographic evidence that Obama was not on the moon landing sound stage at Area 51 so, yeah, there is a bit of “fail” involved here, just not the one Bryan envisioned. Quite frankly, I’m surprised that Preston (with apologies to Rick Santorum) screwed the pooch on this one as it is well known that, during his time at Hot Air, he was one of the early innovators in blog videos having pioneered the extremely popular gravitationally-challenged catholic schoolgirl cheerleader genre.
Nope. Still hasn’t gotten old. The classics never do….

geez, tbogg, you’ll use any excuse to put that video up…
it is amusing, though.
I’m surprised Breitbart didn’t go all in and claim it was actually one of Obama’s body doubles.
And I do believe our agreement was that every Malkin vid must be counteracted by two Shakiras and/or live action bassets. Hey, fair’s fair!
There must be some point where stupidity of such an olympian scale will cause a person physical pain.
There’s plenty of substantive reasons to oppose Obama at this point, so naturally not-so-Breitbart goes for the overblown conspiracy theory. May he crack his balls and fornicate with sheep.
How pathetic do you have to be to post a more erudite version of the “This looks shopped” meme?
I agree. Not so Breitbart has *plenty* of material from which to draw poo to fling at Obama. THIS is what that liar comes up with?? Pathetic.
“I’ve been doing green screen video effects for about 15 years, starting at NASA and then for Hot Air. ”
That’s quite a career path, Bryan.
I actually clicked on the LGF link – what happened to those guys? Weren’t they the ‘wingers way back when? Or is it that they just appear relatively sane now next to the New Generation?
Confused.
“I’ve been doing green screen video effects for about 15 years, starting at NASA and then for Hot Air.”
That must have been a pretty seamless transition.
By the way, isn’t NASA, like, 100% funded by the (always-bad) gub’mint? If so, then I wouldn’t trust a word this man says. He’s been sucking off the public teat for years!
Come on, guys. You know quite well that every picture and video of Obama is created at ILM. It’s all part of the plot to cover up the fact that he is Norwegian.
And a woman.
With huge breasts.
It looks like they used virtual set tech to get the long shots and close-ups to look believable, but it’s pretty much a fail.
I love the more-in-sorrow-than-in-anger tone and the gentle qualifications (“It looks like…” “pretty much…”). This is the kind of klass (with a capital K) you expect from your higher-quality wingnut, reluctantly answering the call to share his expertise in support of what everyone except he, and the callers, knows to be utterly insane.
And another thing, too. If I see that two-bit, $10 teabagging prostitute Malkin in her cheerleading outfit on this site again, I’m . . . I’m . . . I’m *leaving*.
Or jacking off.
Or something.
So, I don’t get it. What’s their point? That Obama wasn’t really in Detroit?
I’ve been doing green screen video effects for about 15 years, starting at NASA and then for Hot Air.
dstatton and commissar ably beat me to it, but jeebus man, why whould you put that out there?
I started my career with the New York Yankees and I currently play wiffle ball in my backyard for ice cream money with the neighbor kids.
And “huffs a can of Krylon” is a keeper.
The main writer at LGF had an epiphany similar to John Cole at Balloon Juice; he’s reversed a lot of his stances and alienated most of the racist, xenophobic trash that posted there.
I know, it scares me too; I remember when LGF qualified as hate speech.
Johnson had an epiphany a few years back, realizing he was cohorting with sociopaths and known liars, an epiphany that is all too rare in far right circles. It’s something that takes courage and critical thinking, two traits that are as abundant in Wingnuttia as fruit and vegetables are in Rush Limbaugh’s refrigerator.
“…two traits that are as abundant in Wingnuttia as fruit and vegetables are in Rush Limbaugh’s refrigerator.”
Nicely done.
Nicely done, indeed.
The video is totally fake. Just look at it–the kerning is all wrong.
Sheesh that “Cheer Leader” looks a lot like one Michelle Malikin!!
Maybe they were talking about his environmental record:

The reason it’s real is the audio track. Close your eyes and just listen to the humming in the background. That’s the sound of an empty, light, factory with no one working in the background (kinda like America, ba dum dum). In the film industry we call it ‘wild tracks’ and we have everyone on the set stand till and not even breath for 30 seconds and record the ‘sound’ at that location. This is the only way to get sound like that on this track, live at the factory.
Why take up for the austerity president? He has the aids to refute these kinds of ridiculous claims. Our time is better spent on encouraging someone to primary him, and exposing the democratic party’s corrupt corporate ties, too numerous to mention.
May he crack his balls and fornicate with sheep.
I lol’d. This is like the start of a horriblized version of that “May the road rise up to meet you” prayer.
That’s not the only thing that’s all wrong.
How about the fact that shameless lying should be countered at all times? That people should not be able to brazenly deny reality and then get a pass on their brazenness because the target of the falsehood is disliked?
And really, the “Primary Obama” shtick is old meme.
What precisely do right wingers find impossible to believe about Obama flying to Detroit and giving a speech?
the only interesting “artifact” in this whole thing is the right wing reaction to an utterly meaningless observation.
Just another death by a thousand cuts, undermining everything by planting the idea that all is a lie.
To be precise, Johnson jumped ship when Shrieking Harpy went off on a little jaunt to Europe for an ‘anti-Islam’ conference that included a bunch of hastily-rebranded white supremacists. I’m still leery of giving him any kind of audience, because his attempts to walk back in public tend to whitewash the history of LGF at its loopiest, when it was clearly not just the commenters who set the tone, but the man with the extremely heavy moderating hand and IP blocklist.
Really! Mind boggling.
I was cornered recently by someone who truly & honestly doesn’t believe we ever landed on the moon. I listened politely. Actually he made an “ok” case for his POV, and one can see how landing on the moon coulda been ginned up & faked.
But going to Detroit to give a speech??? WTF? Who cares anyway?
When George W. Bush was saying and doing colossally stupid things in public, I never once wondered if his handlers were green screening his speeches. I guess if you can’t comment on the content, you have to lie about the packaging.
I heard that it cost $250,000,000 per hour just to fly The Obamas (and 300 of their closest muslin friends) to Detroit where they’re actually on another vacation.
They chose Detroit because it’s the Sharia Law test-tube-baby city and President Socialist/Fascist/Communist/Black Guy is autographing the first car with pre-installed bombs to come off GM’s assembly line. After all, you can’t spell Great Muslin Takeover without a G and an M….
’ve been doing green screen video effects for about 15 years, starting at NASA and then for Hot Air.
That’s like saying you spent 15 years as Chief of Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins and now you’re doing oil changes at JiffyLube
One word: Mythbusters.
