Karl Marx’s mom, Elizabeth Warren, is really getting under the skin of the Grand Oligarch Party so they are pulling out the big guns and accusing her of inciting the mass riots and death and destruction in Boston that have caused the streets to run red (Communists favorite color!) with blood:
National Republicans are now attacking Elizabeth Warren for embracing the protests, seeking to make a liability out of the fact that Warren, a longtime critic of Wall Street excess, has now aligned herself with the movement’s intellectual underpinnings. What this means: The conservative effort to turn blue collar whites and independents against the protesters and their broader populist message — exploiting a traditional cultural fault line in our politics — will now unfold in the context of a high profile political campaign.
Warren was asked by the Daily Beast for a comment on the protests. She said: “I created much of the intellectual foundation for what they do. I support what they do.”
Now the NRSC has opened fire on Warren for the comments, blasting out an email containing links to stories about protesters in Massachusetts battling with cops. Said NRSC spokesman Brian Walsh: “Warren’s decision to not only embrace, but take credit for this movement is notable considering the Boston Police Department was recently forced to arrest at least 141 of her Occupy acolytes in Boston the other day after they threatened to tie up traffic downtown and refused to abide by their protest permit limits.”
These people make the Baader-Meinhof Gang look like a bunch of pussies.

Never mind the spelling mistake on Oligarch, but shouldn’t it really be the “Grifting Oligarch Party.” If the current GOP has proven anything, it’s that they value the grift just as much as they do strengthening of the oligarchy.
Fixing spelling errors just because spell-check says I should is fascist.
In BOSTON! Gasp!
Even worse. They sent out too many invitations and didn’t keep track of the RSVPs. The fiends!
and they have yet to send Thank You cards
Oh, the humanity!
Here in New York, home of the OWS “mobs”, police have been forced — forced, I tells ya — to tear gas* and run over with their scooters the “Occupy acolytes”.
*Be sure to note how the still-suffering Deputy Inspector Tony Baloney says he “has been tortured since the incident”. Apparently, nobody informed him that we don’t do torture in the good ol’ USofA.
Oh, the fiends. What perfidy! What nerve!
It’s totally worth imagining how the GOP would’ve dealt with the American patriots back in their day… “crucifixion’s too good for ‘em…” So, the #OWS crowds are “forcing” the police to act as fascist thugs, huh? The ol’ “this’ll hurt us more than it’ll hurt you” school of spare the rod, spoil the protesters. They’re so good to us, and we’re so not deserving of all their love.
I hope they find an excuse to arrest that insurrectionist banshee Warren and put her back in her place in the kitchen. What is the world coming to when some over-educated trollop dares interfere with modest hedge fund managers attempting to rob their country blind?
I may be forced to be arrested later today. If there are arrests in ABQ, I will be in line. Perhaps the police here will not enforce the lack of a permit after 10 PM. Whatever happens, I will be there.
So Warren is Karl Marx’s mom? Damn! All this time I thought she was his sister. I stand corrected.
Wait ’til they go after her for waffling. She hated OWS protesters before she loved them.
She may have redeemed herself, but she has certainly made this an interesting race.
While we lefties defend Warren from Republicans, we forget that she might actually be a conservative in disguise (with the exception of bank issues). I think Naked Capitalism has it right… http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2011/10/elizabeth-warrens-job-plan-war-with-iran.html
So that’s why everybody’s been wearing that Elizabeth Warren mask from “V for Vendetta.”
She may be a conservative if we must put labels on her, but she is scaring the s#!t out of Wall Street and Koch’s.
This is only the beginning of attempts to define her.
Also, imho, the OWS has grown so much the Repubs and rich are really running scared and they need to kill it before it gets so many followers that they will not be able to steal the next election.
Next thing ya know, them great Murkins of the NRSC will criticize her for teaching. At Harvard, no less!
And to the elitists who run the Wall Street Casino, there’s nothing more elitist than pointing out elitism among the elite who graduate from their own fair Haaaa-vaaaahd. Why, what would they say at the country club?
Elizabeth is the new Madame Defarge of the 21st Century version of the French Revolution
What Warren claims she created much of intellectual foundation for what OWS is now doing? WTF sounds like Al gore taking credit for the Internet. That woman need to get a grip on her ego and reality.
I have lived in Mass since 1984, and lived in OK before for several years though not a native there. I know both places well. What intrigues me about Warren is her peculiar journey eastward. It’s quite incongruous and unexplained. So be it.
Her biggest problem “breaking in” to the ballot box here will not be finding a skeleton key. Rather, she has to get out of OK immediately in anyone’s imagination here, and even for those in MA who haven’t heard yet. “What?, Who?, Where’s that?” will be a certain minus to overcome early. It must be overcome soon.
Warren is dealing with old-moneyed provincial mavens from Hingham, and such — there’s quite a long list of those abodes throughout the state actually. They know all the blue ancestors going back to the Adams family and before. They come from all walks of life here, and know how to pronounce the name of every street corner in this state. Beyond the pale, they know little else.
Anyone not appearing as fruit somewhere on that tree, well, they risk having fleas until proven otherwise. Get to work!
I won’t claim to be able to rebut that link’s info (I wanna like Warren, badly, for PROGGY reasons) but it’s a damned shame Warren MIGHT be another Obama . . . in terms of DIM Orthodoxy.
Oh well, we hope on.
This was nothing critical of Warren. . . I just wish she had shown up on more likely turf, maybe as a candidate in the Midwest. Good luck!
She’s his sister AND his mother!
Gee, I’m shocked that somebody held in such high esteem in the Obama administration is just another player in the kabuki.
The farce around her not being appointed to head the toothless consumer protections agency was just part of the show.
If you’re waiting for the perfect progressive candidate, you may be here for awhile.
Why do we even need an opposition? We seem to be very adept with the circular firing squad.
YES! Exactly.
Yeah, but that’s how we GOT here in the first place.
We now know enuff to IDENTIFY people and problems with proggy issues . . . and IF they are id’d as such, then why support them at all? It’s just more of the ‘lesser evilism’ . . . I want Warren to be MORE than just better n the other person, and if she’s not, then not support her, cuz lesser evilism is NOT going to challenge the status quo in any way, manner, shape or form.
N that’s the point of our existence, the status quo MUST be changed. Domestically and internationally, it MUST be changed or we are all gonna lose what little we have and our children and subsequent gens are dead meat on arrival.
No centrism, no DIM Centrism . . . if Warren ain’t full proggy, no support IMHO.
Given a dearth of help at the Presidential level coming up in ’12, would you continue to support Obama, vote for him, because he MIGHT be lesser evil? I find it hard for ANYONE to run that by me . . . OBama IS Evil, as much as any of the GOP nutcases, and YOU know they are all owned and operated and bought and paid for by the fascist corporation state . . . so, for me, no centrism, no status quo.
N no Warren if she can’t cut the proggy mustard. That Yves Smith link is pretty damaging and damning in the points AGAINST Warren it raises . . . . like to hear MORE comments from folks about the validity of what Yves Smith posted . . .
Forced I tell you! They were just forced to arrest all those peeps!
A very typical centrist status quo response to anything that threatens someone’s position in life if they have a job, a place to live, regular food and healthcare.
For others who don’t have those things (whose ranks are growing by leaps and bounds if yer payin attention to reality) THEIR needs, points of view and needs are VERY different from someone who ‘has it made’ by comparison.
The circular firing squad complaint against libs/proggy’s is pure DNCC inspired party propaganda let loose by centrist, comfortable and happy members of the bleating veal pen status quo.
Harumph.
“. . .“Warren’s decision to not only embrace, but take credit for this movement is notable considering the Boston Police Department was recently forced to arrest at least 141 of her Occupy acolytes in Boston the other day after they threatened to tie up traffic downtown and refused to abide by their protest permit limits.. . .”

Permits? What permits!? They don’t need no stinkin’ permits!
The die was cast when it started in Boston WITHOUT permits, and the lack thereof did not result in enforcement.
That set a precedent which is likely to come back in the future, i.e., what requirements, if any, the city can levy on any group. I’d say that’s a positive development.
Do you know me? No.
So don’t you dare presume to draw inferences about who I am. I hate that when people I know do that, so imagine how I feel when total strangers have the stones to try it?
Back off. NOW. This is your only warning, because I will not ask again.
Who needs the circular firing squad when we have ‘democrats’ like those in power, enacting republican policies? Next you’ll be telling us that the reason we’re all in this mess is because progressives aren’t clapping loud enough.
See my 29. I get real tired of this, real fast.
And my mood is already not the best, so keep pushing that button. See what happens.
Just what are you going to do?
This is an A-B conversation, pal. C your way out of it.
Fuck you.
I do so love the “I’d rather die in a fire than support someone who is not as progressive as my progressive wet dream candidate” logic. Because remember: Obama = Rick Perry.
Seriously, you guys. Knock this shit off.
Spotts has got a long-standing fragile ego problem. I had hoped he might be growing up a bit in the last few months, but, sadly, no.
Greatest FDL headline ever.
My congratulations, sir. Well played.
I don’t have a fragile ego problem. I have a “doesn’t suffer fools” problem.
You want to know who I am? I’m someone who still lives with his parents. I get up every morning and drive 55 miles to work 10 hours a day because despite offering generous wages, a pension plan, and full medical benefits, I’m still doing the work of three people because we can’t get anyone qualified to be a secretary, then drive 55 miles back home.
I spent 2 years bouncing from temp job to temp job, all work I hated with a passion because it involved harassing people who I knew didn’t have money to pay their bills. It sucked, but it was do that or starve. I’m up to my eyeballs in medical debt and student loan debt, and while I’m slowly managing to get the numbers down it’s still a hard slog.
I agree with OWS, and I agree with what their doing. So forgive me when I don’t moderate my tone when someone wails that their “progressive hero” has feet of clay. Andrew Shepard and Josiah Bartlet aren’t going to show up and be the hero. This isn’t a John Ford movie – the cavalry isn’t coming over the hill.
I am a member of this community, and you are a member of this community, and as such I will always have sympathy for your troubles and hope that you will get what you want out of life. But many here have troubles, many so much worse than yours that they would gladly trade places with you. The point is, it is not helpful to anybody when you vent your stress on others, especially in the form of implied, albeit impotent, threats, and somebody does not become a fool for simply disagreeing with you on an issue. I will leave it there, and continue to wish you well. Sincerely.
I am fascinated that there are scads and scads of purity trolls out to kill the Warren campaign already, apparently prepared to jump on anything that gives them an opening, armed with dense paragraphs of insinuation and inflammatory URLS. Very odd, don’t you think?
The progressive project doesn’t even need enemies when we have such helpful friends.
Ah well, it seems OWS is well into the formulation attributed to Gandhi: “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you…” (and the people who support you) “and then….”
Thank god she didn’t claim to have invented the internet.
@42
Neither did Al Gore.
I find your words hollow when I am defending myself from attacks upon my character (something that deeply offends me and causes a reaction on a visceral level) and I am the one chastised.
I will not apologize for that. And if that diminishes me, so be it. Mods, delete my account. I quit. You win.
Except Al Gore never did say that. Jesus H. Christ, the republican propaganda/slime machine must be pretty damn effective when we repeat their lies about our candidates here. http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp
No doubt the same character assassination of Warren is underway now…it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if the quote was taken out of context or, worse, quoted incorrectly. I’ve seen and heard enough of this woman that I know we could use about 90 more like her in the US Senate.
Well damn. Just as I was trying to figure out how Elizabeth was going to weave the name Scott Brown into her next knitting project, the thread goes all sqirrelly.
It could be worse I suppose. After all Montresor’s family motto was: No One Insults Me With Impunity. Somehow, that fits tonight.
The thing you never know about anonymous posters on the internet are (1) who they are and (2) what their motivation is.
It’s been my innertubes experience that the superior progressive purist comes in 3 basic flavors:
(1) the RNC operative who’s paid to troll and disrupt. If I’m an RNC, paid-to-post, troll, I’d play the most outrageously progressive guy in the political universe…then proceed to attack and insult the Democratic Party and every supporter from the left. Because it just doesn’t have the same disruptive effect when you attack from the right. We’ll see lots more of these next year as GE kicks off.
(2) the idealist Democrat who just graduated with a poly sci/philosophy minor (that was me 35 years ago!). Life experiences will eventually provide a reality based assessment within 1 or 2 election cycles.
(3) the Nader/3rd Party voter. Generally hates both parties (but spends most of their time lecturing Democrats) and can be counted on to throw their vote away on an unelectable candidate. The beauty of their vote is never having to defend their candidate’s governing record because their candidate never gets elected. I like to think of them as the “backseat driver” voter in our politics – they offer lots of constructive criticism on your driving, but never have actually driven themselves. Mostly inconsequential, but occasionally helps to get the wrong party elected (see 2000 election).
My advice is not to let them trip your blood pressure. Let them take themselves seriously – you don’t have too.
Tourette’s comes to mind whenever I see a comment by realitychecker…..
In the run-up to the First Iraq War (aka the Gulf War), in 1990, someone joined the anti-war organizing group I was involved in, and fairly promptly started urging for direct action with the probability of arrest. I figured him for a Fed, and was quite wary of him. I was wrong, he wasn’t, he was a good guy (and did personally get arrested later, but that’s another story).
I mention this just because I do think some people in this thread appear to be provocateurs, but they may well be sincere, and do deserve respectful engagement. In turn, it would be both pleasant and useful if those who are particularly vigorous in their criticisms of those they think are not hard enough on the administration and its supporters would extend the same courtesy.
I’ve been doing this a long time — I got knocked down and told to go back to Moscow while promoting a Vietnam rally — and I still have to work on my own emotions. We all could do better.
“Generous wages”? What, $1 over minimum wage? If you’re going to make this argument, why not provide some specifics?
“Can’t find anyone qualified to be a secretary?” Well, why don’t you hire and TRAIN somebody? Or lower the standards…so you can’t find someone who types 100 words a minute? Learn to live with 90 WPM. (Or whatever.)
The excuses/lies behind not hiring sound just as fake coming from you as they do coming from the head of Caterpillar. And the fact that you use the complaint about how overworked you are (yeah, I’m living the good life on my $210/wk unemployment check…) to justify yelling at people who dare question the current Progressive Hero’s bonafides (after all, look how well our uncritical support of Obama worked out…) is IMO inexcusable.
And yes, butting in like this makes me “D” or “E” in your precious “A-B conversation”. Well, “F”…okay, that one’s too easy.
Now I’m a liar. Anything else? Anyone else want to take a shot at me? Go ahead, since it seems to be dogpile day.
Well, if you can’t/won’t see how stupid your impotent threats and thin skin make you appear, then just continue to carry on. Young and dumb.
Your history clearly reflects the low level of your mental functioning, so a direct response to your current idiocy is unnecessary.
Voting for the lesser evil is a good short-term strategy. Refusing to continue to cooperate with/enable an abusive relationship is a good long-term strategy. So, the actual debate is whether it is smarter to live by a short-term strategy or a long-term strategy. The track record for the short-term strategy is not encouraging.
Just shake it off. Hardtoport has it right. These would-be-Trotskys are as sanctimonious, ideological, and insufferable as the right wing fundamentalists. Although, I’ll admit, it is fun to watch the one old codger go from smarmy, pinkie-in-the-air pomposity, to sniveling, scratching, biting, and yelling about his old dog and his girlfriend (who may be the same entity).
Word!
Fuckin’ hilarious…purity trolls? Ain’t nobody perfect if they’re running for office, and that includes St. Ralph. Anyone who irritates my particular objects of irritation and contempt is good by me, and that most def includes Elizabeth Warren. The proprietor of this hyar site has written a bedtime story for those progressives who want the perfect candidate.
