Herman Cain would totally give Shakira a job.
Let’s get tennish:
Gibsom Street – Laura Nyro
Oh La – Ra Ra Riot
Gold Lion – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Message – Cymande
Until The Last – The Album Leaf
Acoustic Guitar – The Magnetic Fields
Redondo Beach – Patti Smith
My Stupid Mouth – Audra McDonald
Six Days At The Bottom Of The Ocean – Explosions In The Sky
Jailbird – M. Ward
and the one that Rick Perry forgot: The Ledge – The Replacements
Since her name popped up this is as good a time as any to point out that Audra McDonald is national treasure and the most gifted vocalist I’ve ever had the pleasure to listen to. Here she takes John Mayer’s pop ditty and makes Broadway gold out of it
…and one more. A Little Night Music
I highly recommend her Build A Bridge CD

T, you listen to a broader range of music in a month than I do in ten years, but that Mayer song sucks. “hurt me/desert me” is a bullshit rhyme, the phrases have no structure, the melody staggers around to accommodate lyrics jammed in without craft. Lovely voice, etc., but ugh.
(And I know they don’t all have to be Sondheim. But wow. That second one is gold.)
Happy Birthday, Neil Young
Embryonic Journey – Jefferson Airplane
Cracklin’ Rosie – Neil Diamond
May The Bird Of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose – Little Jimmy Dickens
Orphan Girl – Gillian Welch
Here I Go Again – The Hollies
All By Myself – Jamie O’Neal
Isaac & Abraham – Joan Baez
Two For Tea – Mambo All-Stars
Next Time You See My Girl – St. Paul*
Orphan Girl – Emmylou Harris
+ Reggae Got Soul – Toots & The Maytals
*for fans of Prince’s group “The Family” which featured St. Paul Peterson on lead vocals, the group has reformed as Fdeluxe and have a great new CD out called “Gaslight”. Paul’s an old buddy from way back, and if you like your soul funky i can’t recommend this CD more.
Spanish Moon – Little Feat (from the greatest live album EVAR, Waiting for Columbus)
Cruisin’ For A Love – J. Geils Bands (2nd greatest live album, Full House)
You Got The Love – Chaka Khan and Rufus
First Glimmer – Paul Westerburg
Four Seasons (Spring) – Vivaldi
Everybody – The Why Store
Give It Everything You Got – Edgar Winter’s White Trash
Stand Back – Allman Brothers Band
Dead Man’s Party – Oingo Boingo
Tell It Like It Is – Percy Sledge
aaaaand….because it’s what came up….
This Is Us – Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris
Hey, I’d totally give Shakira a job too, but for purely, um, esthetic reasons.
Doggone it, T! I just checked in on your site on Saturday morning, and the next thing I knew it was 1 am Sunday morning. If the computer hadn’t rebooted itself after autoupdating, I might have starved to death, hynotized by Those Hips That Doth Not Lie. Keep it coming!
