I hope you realize that by pointing out that Mitt Romney made his fortune by buying companies, running up enormous debt, looting their pension funds, taking huge consulting fees, and then bankrupting the companies leaving thousands unemployed, their lives and families and communities shattered …. you are blood-libeling his One True Religion and it’s not the one with extra wives and the magic underwear:
Mitt Romney said his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination are turning the 2012 primary into a “trial” on free enterprise by attacking his record at Bain Capital, the private equity group he helped start.
“Free enterprise will be on trial. I though(sic) it was going to come from the president and the Democrats and the left,” Mr. Romney told reporters here. “Instead it’s coming from Speaker Gingrich and apparently others.”
And if you attack Mitt Romney for taking a few liberties with people’s livelihoods and pensions, well isn’t that an attack on free enterprise? And if you attack free enterprise, isn’t that really an attack on America itself?

The job cremator.
Little Lord Fraudleroy Romney added, “Watch out or my butler will slap you silly for being so mean to me.”
But it’s all Obama’s fault, which makes this news a big “win” for John McCain.
Willard wants to take a time out and change the rules of the game as it’s been played for decades. So endearing, as is his belief that people give a stack of pennies about his “experiences.”
OT: In a chinwag on NPR just now about whether/when politicians’ private lives are fair game, RossD said lefty bloggers are ‘stupid’ for commenting on Santorum’s bringing home the dead fetus.
A few minutes later he said that while Obama hadn’t political-weaponized Sasha and Malia, they’d be fair game if the Pres trotted them out to argue for more support for public education.
A few seconds later, without missing a beat, he allowed that it would be ineffective for Obama to do so since, as the NPRer pointed out, the FDsOTUS are in private schools.
Now, if we could only convince the Mittster that his best strategy is to walk out…
In the same way that criticizing Little Boots for being a chickenhawk who lied to get us into a completely unnecessary war was “not honoring our troops,” so too is the recognition that Mitt Romney preyed on American companies and workers in order to make himself filthy rich an example of hating capitalism and free enterprise.
So… NPR once again fails at being the least bit relevant or delivering any kind of news, insight or analysis. In other news, Republicans suck, the climate is broken, and politicians don’t always tell the truth.
Meanwhile, Mittens thinks “free enterprise will be on trial” in NH tomorrow? Riight, because he’s up against all those communist sympathizers who want to nationalize everything and rip the silver spoon from his mouth and give it to the working class. WTF?
Paris doesn’t deserve to be linked satirically with this creepy American Gordon Gekko impersonator. Just saying. A little fun about the Paris thing is fine, but I’d hate for it to become a mime. Er, meme.
Actually if Mitt Romney = The United States, then I have to say that’s one nervous, awkward, fast-talking, smile-like-Ward-Cleaver-while-pillaging-you-for-everything-you’ve-got country.
Oh wait, it sort of is.
Well that didn’t come out the way I thought it would. Damn typing machine has a mind of its own. Well the country’s not all like that, so let’s hope we don’t elect someone who embodies our worst attributes, for which Mitt is certainly the perfect candidate.
No, it’s a little worse than that. Whenever a pointed or relevant questioner calls in Mr. Conan listens politely, sometimes blunts the point with a brief rebuttal, notes that opinions on the shape of the earth differ yet again, and moves back to the subject at hand.
I knew I couldn’t be the only one who’s noticed what a dick that guy is to every caller whose question or opinion isn’t as centrist as he would like. He does seem to be better at “correcting” liberals in his comments after he hangs up on them than he is at calling out conservative bullshit, though.
Yesterday on National Pentagon Radio, some flaming ijot was “making the case” for War with Iran.
Once in a while, I turn on NPR but usually have to turn it off within 5 min because, for me, it’s worse than listening to Ditto Limbaugh (whom I never listen to). At least Limbaugh makes no pretense about being a flaming asshole who’ll say anything if it keeps him rolling in lot$a ca$h.
There’s nothing “free” about the enterprise that Mittens engages in. It’s COST many citizens their livelihoods, and ultimately it’s cost taxpayers a LOT of money for social services needed for citizens who’ve lost jobs due to Romney’s unabashed plundering and pillaging.
And if this hollow shell of a man somehow gets elected, in four years his answer will be another Eric Strattonism;
You fucked up. You trusted me.
With his penchant for historical references, Newt may next call Mitt a malefactor of great wealth. It would have the benefit of being accurate.
Right on cue Jay “I Used to Be A Radical/Puked On The White House Lawn” Nordlinger comes in with one of his regular-guy defenses of the capitalist genius that is Mitt Romney.

“Free enterprise will be on trial”?
CHRIST what a bunch of fking WHINERS they all are. Every single one of them. And they have the nerve to complain about Obama this way.
Forget the dead fetus, freaky as it is, I’m still gobsmacked Rmoney put the family dog on top of the car for a road trip. And speaking of the (near-)dead, here’s a recent NPR story on the incident and some of the reporting. I wish I knew what NPR thought their story was about. Outside of the car guys, I don’t think NPR understands humor.
Ver nice.
True fact: We all wore those clothes in the ’70s.
Ask your Grampa.
You wore red plaid blazers and/or poodle skirts in the 1970s? Cool.
I heard part of that conversation about Santorum – didn’t know who was speaking, but I was pissed off when he went on to say that “liberal bloggers” were just “stupid” because they meant that Ricky & wife bringing home the dead fetus was “creepy because of their belief in right to life.”
Even the host kinda called him on that.
Ross apparently doesn’t see bringing home a dead body – whether 2 hours old or 82 years old – is creepy on its face, that it’s already creepy without anything else added. Douchebag.
Frankly the NatLamp clip was more entertaining the Republican circular firing squad (currently all gathered around The Mittster).
Gingrich must be really, really pissed to be doing this.
Why do those thousands of people who lost their jobs because Willard was doing “free enterprise” hate America?
It will probably get worse. Newt has nothing to lose.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
He looks like his going to get all Gotterdamerung on Romney.
I do hope that you meant to write “the Japanese” and just stumbled.
Go forth, my son, and watch Animal House.
Mitt Romney saying he wants to give Americans “the freedom to fire insurance companies” who don’t deliver on health care is sickening, considering the American insurance industry consists of a bunch of giants who collude with each other to determine prices, services and territory to maxmize mututally beneficial profits. They are not bound by anti-trust laws and there is virtually no competition (because that gets in the way of them making money).
Mitt made his biggest fortune shorting the company stock at the high as he intentionally deep sixed the company. He knew he was going to bust out the company. Its easy as pie. All that money on the way down. Perfectly legal.
This game is a no-brainer for Bain billionaires like Mitt and Llloyd Blankfeind.
They continue to do it over and over again.
Oh, thanks :)
pogram
I see few if any here understand how the real world works.
In the real world, most businesses fail. Most.
In turn that means the employees of those businesses lose their jobs.
It’s a process that is continual, and normal.
In contrast, Dominos, Staples, and Sport Authority employees have Mitt to thank.
Romney Paul 2012?
Thank god you happened along to enlighten us.
Shorter shooter242:
Companies die all the time. Therefore murdering them for hire to sell off the body parts is just the natural order established by your betters, you dumb hippies.
shooter242 has been busy concern trolling that we are all being very very unfair to Romney at various blogs today. All the substance of a popcorn fart…
Not sure Mitt needs help from Newt in screwing up his campaign – Mitt’s “I like to fire people” stated today will be in more than one Obama commercial.
I see, so, because businesses can and do fail due to various reasons like bad economy, bad plan, or bad management, its perfectly OK that private equity firms buy up companies, sell all their assets, fire their workers, and deliberately set the companies up to fail conclusively while short-selling their stock to profit on the deliberately engineered failures?
I wouldn’t call him a concern troll, I’d call him a guy making a vapid and unsound argument.
If you have read the his/hers/its comments elsewhere like I have … concern troll. With honors…
The greatest motivational speech of all time!
“most businesses fail” – but almost always caused by the under 10 employee business – which are then replaced by new under 10 businesses which leads to the true – but misleading stat – that most new hiring is by small businesses.
Large businesses tend to not fail – Mitt took larger businesses and destroyed them as larger business as he got rid of excess expense – the employees.
Not good job creation.
The fact that some of the businesses survived and grew to add 20 years later 100,000 employees by 2011 – if attributed to Mitt – is like attributing the economic growth under Reagan to Carter. I doubt the GOP would accept any attribution of growth in employment that occurred after Carter left office to Carter, so it is hard to see how Mitt is responsible for 100,000 new jobs in the economy.
Mitt is like the guy that steals cars, strips them for parts, and resells them, along the way sending the job of stripping out to overseas workers. Not quite capitalistic “creative destruction” – more like financial fraud and theft of assets and ending of jobs, albeit some were left standing and did indeed regrow.
Actually Romney is pretty good at what he did.
http://blog.american.com/2012/01/romney-doesnt-need-to-apologize-for-his-bain-career/
Now for the next lesson. The reason to buy companies is to make money, not provide jobs. Don’t like it? Start your own company.
Fixed it for you.
I understand that mittens pension is taxed at capital gains rates or 15 percent.
Funny thing is they all seem to know what these private equity firms and hedge funds do to peoples lives but none of them has called to regulate or protect hard working americans from these scum bags
Not that it makes no never mind but…… There was a proposal to change the tax rate of 15 percent on carried interest of thos funds.
Your are correct for for once. And I do mean once.
Romney destroyed some half way decent companies. Sent a lot of people to the unemployment line. Put a bunch of pension liabilities on us, the tax payers. Took down a couple of small towns.
You’re right.
Pretty good.
If that’s your objective.
And it was most assuredly his.
Sure! That is what wall stret did that caused the depression we r now in.
This is snark, right? Has to be.
Dominos, Staples and Sport Authority pay bottom of the barrel wages and no benefits. People who work there also rely on the food bank and some of them are homeless because the wages are so SHITTY they can’t afford rent.
Now you’re just tryin ta confuse shooter with facts. shooter is well aware that facts have a liberal bias. Ya can’t trip him up that easy.
The job cremator.
Bloody brilliant. That’s a keeper and I hope you won’t mind if I borrow and use liberally. I thought “The Job Terminator” was good, but “The Job Cremator” is exquisite in the way it turns the whole Republican talking point on its head.
mmm, it’s like, uh, get with the program.
Uh, pooter? Crap somewhere else, old man.
pooter’s so dumb, being a sub-minimum-wage paid troll, that he doesn’t know what the fuck a leveraged buyout is. Here’s some education, poots: it’s where you buy companies no-money-down, on the promise that you’ll rip out the copper pipes. And you get to do that when you spend the rest of your time sucking banker cock.
mmm, trust in gov’mnt.
…and I refuse to sit here and listen to an attack on America. (Or a rough translation thereof.) Fucking capitalism. How does it work?
You’d think some of the chuckleheads screaming about socialism might have noticed by now that this whole capitalism thing isn’t quite working as advertised.
As always, this is good news for John McCain.
And about those clothes, people should have been so lucky as to wear red plaid sport coats and poodle skirts in the 70s. They look good by comparison with leisure suits and other sartorial horrors of that decade. In the great state of Indiana, where the 70s were actually the 60s about ten years late, I spent most of my misspent youth on campus wearing t-shirts, jeans and hiking boots so it didn’t affect me much. But that period almost killed my father. He didn’t give a shit about long hair, but polyester clothing just…offended him on a basic level. He favored charcoal suits with a faint pinstripe and I can hear him now: “Your jeans and crap I can deal with, but these leisure suit assholes with those goddamn plastic shoes all look like a Cleveland used car salesman’s nightmare, they dress worse than Canadians!” He thought my Hawaiian shirts were vastly preferable, they might have been in bad taste but at least they weren’t bad taste trying to masquerade as good taste….
(h/t)
Love it!
Remember the “full Cleveland?” I believe Herb on WKRP was known as a fine example of it.
(btw, if you don’t mind revealing it,which Hoosier campus were you on in the ’70′s?)
While others were in Vietnam, Mitt Romney was on mission in France (great photos in this Jan. 10, 2012 article by The Telegraph). Here’s Mitt’s Parisian-accented French to go with that “talk Chinese” comment after Saturday’s TV event for which I will never ever let ABC off the hook:
“Romney speaks French on campaign trail” (The Hill, By Geneva Sands-Sadowitz, Dec. 14, 2011)
IU Bloomington….and lo these many years later I’m STILL occasionally running into people who attended house parties at the house I shared with four others one year. J. Geils Band Full House turned up to 11…
Wait, what?
Yesterday shoots-off-mouth-but-makes-no-sense-whilst-sucking-up-to-Mitt was all about how the beloved Mitt *created* tons & tons & tons & gobs & barrels & buckets of jobs, jobs, jobs. I did ask for a LINK to a credible website or blog which listed all of these “jobs” that Willard “created.” And I’m still waiting. And now here I see this concern troll telling the TRUTH for once: Mitt was in it for the money, honey, and Mitt don’t care smack about youse lousy slacker serfs. No jawbs for youse… Mitt’s the *destroyer* of jobs, so Mittens can make loads and buckets and barrels of sweet sweet ca$hola for HIMself!
Booyah!
Thanks for that factual truth-telling for once, Mr. I’m-so-concerned.
P.S. Feel free to call Obama by his middle name all you like. I don’t give a rat’s ass what you call him.
Thank you. Finally you say something that’s true. So we can finally stop pointing the firehose of cash at these guys because they’re “job creators,” right?
242 Skiddoo: “Hey, people die every day. What’s the big problem you guys have with murder?”
