Puppet-faced goofball Matt Lewis was on ethically challenged Howard Kurtz’s ethically challenged Reliable Sources this morning complaining that “supposed” journalists like Andrea Mitchell and Claire Shipman were unable to put aside their elite media liberal lady-ness and straight up report “just the facts, mam” about what was going on with Komenfuckedupgate. You can watch the video here, and you’ll notice that, according to the caption, what really forced the Komen people to back off was “Media pressure(s)” and not the massive onslaught of negative responses from social media like Twitter and Facebook which threatened to firmly place a pillow over the Komen golden goose’s face and smother it in its gold-lined nest.
To bolster his argument, Lewis cited … Ross Douthat’s column. As I have said before about journalists and Megan McArdle; if you cite anything she has written on any subject (from economics to how to bake a cake) that is a tacit admission that you don’t what you’re talking about because she doesn’t either. This also applies to Ross Douthat and Jonah Goldberg, although in Goldberg’s case he does seem well-versed in Simpsons-iana which is what qualifies him as one of the deeper thinkers over at NRO. You may have noticed in Douthat’s column that the only media people cited as poisoning the Komen debate with their so-called facts are Mitchell, Shipman, and Diane Sawyer and it must have taken all of Ross’s strength (or possibly an alert NY Times editor) to keep from accusing them all of being irrational because they’re probably having their periods or something. You can see the same exasperation in Lewis’ face when Michelle Cottle is speaking.
Matt Lewis, being the good little Douthat-follower that he is, cites Douthat’s citing of the Gallup poll and then plays the “half of Americans are anti-abortion” card. Of course, it shows no such thing.
In fact, keeping abortion legal under any circumstances out-polls under no circumstances and when lumped together with people who aren’t wild about abortion but don’t want to ban it outright, you’ve got yourself a pretty healthy mandate of 76%. Baby murderers, all of them.
But since Matt and Ross like their polls and what they tell us about what American’s believe, I thought they might like this one:
Those are people approving of taxpayer dollars going to people like Planned Parenthood.
If someone had shown that poll to the Susan G Komen Foundation before they went public with their de-funding of Planned Parenthood, they might not have shit the bed so publicly and so spectacularly and today they could have spent the afternoon in a corporate box at the Super Bowl with the Frito-Lay people figuring out how to make pink corn chips…

If you pushed the 51% on their reservations, they’d still support the right of a woman to decide whether to have an abortion. So that’s 75% allowing a woman to make the choice. Another datapoint that says Republicans are out of touch with what normal Americans want in their government and society. Break out the salted dicks for the 25% who don’t get it. I’d also wager that is the same 25% who were still supporting Bush the Dimmer as he stumbled out of the WH in 2008.
I guess I’m confused what “legal under certain circumstances” means. Does it mean “legal only in cases of rape or incest”? Or does it mean “legal with roadblocks” i.e. waiting periods, mandatory information about alternatives, and compulsory sonograms? Because there’s a huge difference between those two definitions.
Nudges TBogg…
Tebow: Politics ‘could be something in my future’ | The Raw Story
He’s praying for guidance.
‘Former contributing writer to Townhall?’ How incompetent do you have to be to get fired from Townhall?
It means “legal if my daughter gets pregnant by a dusky-hued classmate” while also “illegal for irresponsible poor women.”
By the way, I’m no fan of Mrs Greenspan, but I thought she carried on very bravely in the face of Brinker’s constant lying. Kudos to NBC to assign her that interview. Of course, Brinker’s such an idiot, she may very well have requested an interview with Andrea.
Looking forward to the game today. I got 20 left in my bank account says Tebow out duels Brady. Broncs by 35.
What?? But…Jeezus.
Indeed, Mrs. Greenspan’s interview was one of the boldest acts of journamalism America has seen in at least a couple decades, methinks.
The other day I was poking around the Newstalgia site (Amato, Crooksandliars), and I listened to a 1956 Meet The Press interview of Sen Eastland, the old-school Mississippi bigot.
Fascinating how direct and firm the interviewing reporters were. But dem days is long gone. Mrs. Greenspan didn’t even match them, though she was good enough for modern times, I guess.
Exactly. “Certain circumstances” may mean primarily “me & my close kin” (who are not bad people really, just the unfortunate victims of distressing accidents in this particular case which is not to be taken as a precedent).
Am I the only one having problems getting the site to load? I got it to load correctly once earlier today, but other than that, since Friday evening, whenever I come to the main page, all that loads is the most recent post, sans comments. When you click the comments link, it just refreshes the most recent post, and again…no comments. I can see the whole page, comments & everything using Chrome, but not IE (and please, no lectures about IE. I find it easier to use). Is anyone else having a problem? If so, they probably can’t see this comment, but thought I’d ask anyway.
Maybe you are alone. You have nowhere to turn. IE is ruled by Beelzegates.
Tim counsels prayer.
Had problems earlier today – when the ‘comments’ link was hit, all that appeared was “about TBogg”. Ended up having to click the title of the post to get to the comments.
Now, all seems okay. Using Firefox.
No probs on the site using Firefox. As to Douthat, Lewis and the NRO crowd… this is a free speech issue? Because people don’t want to donate to a particular charity? C’mon, guys. Wingnuts used to be more entertaining than that.
IE8 loading okay for me (OMG, advertising!). Firefox too.
You may have a sour ad in the cache.

I laughed out loud when Lewis referred to Douthat’s column as the pinacle of journalistic objectivity and it forced me to investigate further. Not being one to read RD, I do relish in the joy of the comment section whereupon I found 1 in 10 in agreement with the author and 90 per cent very sympathetic to Planned Parenthood, which I also pointed out to Lewis via Twitter.
Nope.
Obviously something is f*d up with the site; otherwise jcricket wouldn’t have had issues earlier today too. Someone in the last thread (or the one before that) mentioned having issues too. The one time I did get it to load using IE earlier today or yesterday, the reply buttons weren’t working. So something is messed up and it’s not on this end – at least it’s not ALL on this end.
No matter what you have to say, it’s tainted by your filthy mouth and provocative headlines. I believe that you are hurting the integrity of Firedoglake.
Sounds about right.
Tbogg’s filthy mouth and provocative headlines are the best thing about Firedoglake, IMHO. In fact, I’m pretty sure that’s why he was invited to join FDL in the first place.
Absolutely right….more filth and provocative headlines, please, the more the better. As to the integrity of Firedoglake, the less said the better.
Good. Hope he keeps it up. I puts the exclamation point in the point!!!
TBogg, it is true at times you are very unkind. No, not unkind you are mean and nasty to McGardle, Douthat, Jonah Goldberg, and other respectable dee cee journalists. And now you have been very cruel TO Susan Komen. Suszie is only trying to make capitalism work and Suzie should be rewarded with $5 or $10 million a year, because her charity saves millions of lives every year.
So yes, words have consequences, and the words of TBogg have consequences. And Planned Parenthood is really to blame for this whole controversy. They should fold up, because they divide us with this abortion thing. Also this topic shoiuld not be discussed, except in a quiet room.
My bad. I hadn’t realised karenb was complaining that Tbogg’s mouth wasn’t filthy enough and that his headlines needed to be more provocative. Her comment makes more sense now.
He musta pissed off the Mitster…………….
The site is loading like I’m on dialup. What’s happening today?
You are so pathethic. You are an example of what’s wrong with this country. Also, why don’t you just come out and say what’s wrong with FDL? Although I don’t always agree with some of their articles, I think they are trying to present some factual information. The mark of a deficient author is when he has to resort to filth and provocative headlines such as TBogg.
“While Twain was out to lunch we secretly replaced his broadband connection with the new AT&T throttled broadband service. Let’s watch and see if he notices.”
Hey, spocko, site is sort of iffy. And Twain is a “she”. Could you please put my broadband back? :)
Teddy. When you look at Brinker’s appearance on the show and in her video you will see that she is using the most standard techniques as taught by the DC media trainers. You did hear that Ari Fleisher was involved, right?
As I watched it I saw all the things that they are coached to say and which usually work!
1) Keep returning to your message.
2) Attack the people who reported on the issue as getting the story wrong, out of context and malicious.
3) Address questions, but don’t answer them with simple answers even when simple answers are demanded. Remember you are NOT under oath. The reporter can’t complete you to answer yes or no questions like a lawyer can in court. Then return to your mission statement
4)Because the “journalist” probably hasn’t done their homework, and will not defend other journalists, make it clear that everyone got the story wrong. (Note, this is used do often that when it really DOES happen to a group that is attacked like ACORN, it loses its power.
You will also note that when Boxer and that other senator made some comments Mitchell let Brinker comment. This is another thing that is taught. Get the last word. Mitchell gave her another ‘bite of the apple’
before they signed off.
To paraphrase Ellen Goodman: “rape, incest and me.”
My guess is that it was a specific request, and that Andrea Mitchell falls into the upper echelon of Villagers For The Cure. Except, that as Tbogg has noted, SGK decided to treat its core supporters, especially in that upper echelon, with complete disrespect.
Just out of curiosity, who died and made you content queen?
Of course. However in the future if it IS your broadband and you have AT&T and DSL I recommend Sonic.net’s new Fusion service. It’s brilliant. (this is an unpaid endorsement) It’s phone and broadband.
Miz Brinker better hope she’s done her due diligence on her officers and directors insurance like she’s so obviously done on the CYA. Tho’ there are exclusions….
Does RICO still exist?
I would address your concerns by inviting you to eat a bag of salted dicks, but that would be unkind. As well as filthy-mouthed, provocative, and hurtful to my integrity. So I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t.
I know, isn’t this great? We can finally get the cleaner, less provocative Tbogg we’ve all been hoping for all these years.
karenb, you can make a difference! Want to know how?
Stop reading tbogg.
Less page hits = less revenue = less Tbogg!
…of course, you’ll have to convince most of the rest of us to do likewise for it to be successful. Good luck!
The mark of a deficient author is when he has to resort to filth and provocative headlines such as TBogg.
Fuck off.
I’ve seen some of your posts and you are a nutcase.
Very intelligent. Just like TBogg.
Tebow: Politics ‘could be something in my future’
And he just moved into second place in the Repuke primary as NotRomney Of The Week.
Thank you for your opinion, though I think the name calling is against the FDL rule about personal attacks. Note how I’m not calling you names and resisting the temptation to diagnose you as mentally ill? That’s what we’re supposed to do.
karenb, I cannot understand why you are here. You don’t like TBogg but you’re commenting in his thread – how much sense does that make? And by the way, don’t talk to Margaret like that.
With a comment like that, I believe that you are hurting the integrity of Firedoglake.
Knock it off.
Okay, I’m done with you and FDL.
Don’t let the door hit you.
No, I take that back, hitting you would help. Lots.
Is he over 35 yet?
The two best teams in the NFL already played in San Franscisco on Jan. 22nd. That was the real championship.
So why the fuck do you come here? We’re all obviously SO offensive, and clearly beyond your redemptive reach.
Why not just leave and damn us all to hell? We’re not listening to you.
Ah, upon reading beyond # 38, I see you’re leaving.
What PJ said @ #46.
So Lewis is upset that Mitchell and Shipmen weren’t objective enough, so he cites OPINION COLUMNISTS as a example of objectivity?
Oh, and karenb can fuck off.
Harsh words on teh intertubes?
Heaven forfend!

Oh Ross, women only need one circumstance – when they decide to have an abortion.
I bet your page-hits are up 100% in two days!!!
… as people stop by to gawk at what a stupid twat you are.

karenb, you’re welcome to start your own, G-rated language blog about political matters.
I’ve always handled disagreements with bloggers with e-mail instead of public snit fits, but what do I know?
This is what worries me about politics today. On issue after issue, the opinion of the majority of Americans is routinely ignored by Washington politicians, powerful interest groups, and the media. And most of the time they get away with it with very little pushback (because who’s left to push back?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHJoj9IqeKg
Well I respectfully sort of disagree. We get to see LOTS of “pushback” in the media, but 99.99% of the time it is ginned up stupid rightwinger victimized “outrage du jour” as dictated to the 25% by Rush Limbaugh, et al. At least, that’s the way it seems to me.
Every little victimized whining shriek emitted by the wingnuts is lovelying embraced and spouted back to the “general public” on tv, the ‘net & other forms of media, as if it’s how the vast vast vast super-majority thinks/feels/reacts, etc.
Of course, you posit that opinion of hte majority is *ignored* and hence there is no real “pushback” of that majority evidenced in the so-called “main stream” media. And on that, I do agree with you.
What to do? Well, as we’ve witnessed, there was enough “push back” on the Komen Ponzi scheme – mainly via various social media – that the Komen 1% had to back down on their stupid stand on PP – at least for now.
So there is that to contemplate, at least.
