What I read in that full letter was: “You shitheads hired me to do exactly what I did. It’s not my fault you don’t have the courage to take the consequences.” And there’s some truth in that, in a squalid sort of way. They all deserve each other.

They hired her to make nice with wingnuts, and part of that was coming up with a way to dump PP for ostensibly non-political reasons.

The public didn’t buy it, and as the CEO was out feverishly defending the action as a “non-political” decision, she was meanwhile re-tweeting anti-abortionist victory laps, which made it clear that it was a completely political decision.

I’m pretty sure Brinker and the board never intended or expected for anyone to go off the reservation and gleefully admit that the PP funding had fallen under the axe of a political hatchet job – the fact that the person making that clear was the very one who led them into the mess in the first place I think clearly rises to the level of insubordination.

In Handel’s defense, as a long time member of the tribe, I’m sure she understood what the others at Komen may not have – that it’s not a victory unless you can rub the liberals’ noses in it. She perfectly understands what is required to curry favor with wingnuttia – too bad that’s in direct opposition to the desire typical of any business or group to not alienate potential customers/donors.

I agree that Handel was thrown under the bus. No one deserves it more. That said, the whole Board of Directors should be kicked to the curb. Clearly Handel got to be scapegoat for a bunch of other loathsome crooks.

My hope is that the general populace gets it that Komen was a Ponzi scheme ripping off cancer patients & their family & friends. 23cents on the dollar going towards the stated “mission” of the foundation, and the rest going to exhorbitant salaries & other perks & lurks??? That’s shameful.

A “good” charity spends a minimum of 60% on their stated mission. The highly rated charities spend more like over 75% on their mission.

Citizens really need to screen charities to determine if they are doing what they say. A lot simply exists to line the pockets of the greedheads at the top. It’s one reason why I’ve consistently refused to give to United Way, for example. Just saying… the whole Komen Foundation, at least at the top, is pretty rotten, not just Handel.

Apparently, the Komen Meltdown will give us daily “leaks”. Leaky Handel, who has fought against women’s health, blames Planned Parenthood. They are a sinister organization sapping American Exceptionalism, and they are way too political.
