A member of the Occupy New Haven movement was raped in a tent at the Occupy camp late on Monday night or early Tuesday morning, police said.
Police said a woman went to find the victim on Tuesday afternoon because she had not seen her.
She went to the woman’s tent and called for her, but there was no answer, so she looked inside the tent and found the woman, police said.
The victim wasn’t able to respond, police said, so the witness yelled out to other Occupiers to call police and emergency medical services.
At some point, the victim told the witness she had been raped in a tent at the camp, police said.
At this point, we could expect Zombie Andrew Breitbart to show up and start moaning “Stop raaaaaaping people! Behaaave yourself. Behaaaave yourself.” after disregarding this part:
Police responded to the camp at 3:25 p.m. The victim was brought to Yale-New Haven Hospital and police charged England Gamble, 53, of New Haven, with first-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint.
Gamble is on the state sex offender registry for a first-degree sexual assault conviction in 1991. The registry said he was released from prison in 1996 and did not register his address.
Members of the Occupy movement said neither Gamble nor the victim are members of the movement. They said both are homeless and set up a tent nearby.

Also, too: factual reality must not intrude. Fwiw, Obama has had little to do with the Occupy movement, and the Occupy movement has been pretty studious in staying away from any political endorsements/involvements.

Sorry, no snark available. That women are being raped while camped out with, or near, Occupy is horrible. Why don’t we just tell the truth? Women are raped all the time, in most every circumstance. That means rapists can be anywhere. Occupy is no different. Instead of running from the conversation, or explaining that none of the people involved are related to Occupy, this could be used for a platform to talk about rape in this country.
My heart breaks. This woman camped next to Occupy because she thought all those other people would offer some security.

The people of occupy called the proper authorities and when other people tried to hang it on their movement, they refused to accept responsibility. Conservatives want to make hay out of this, but your concern is that Occupy didn’t announce a 3-day symposium on Rape in America? Really?
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that, yeah, they probably don’t like rape. Probably hate it even more than the feeling that they have somehow disappointed you. I mean, they must feel awful.
Yes, the right wing authoritarians like rape. It serves a couple of useful purposes: punishes uppity women who do things they’re not entitled to do, such as leave the house without a male escort; and scares the non-uppity women into not even trying to leave the house alone. If the victim gets pregnant, that’s just a bonus because they doubly shame her for getting raped and wanting an abortion.

What’s the difference between some homeless guy raping a homeless woman in a tent outside an Occupy encampment and Republicans across America forcing doctors to subject American women to unwanted, unnecessary transvaginal ultrasounds or any other unwanted, unnecessary procedure?
Answer: I’m presuming the homeless woman that was raped didn’t pay to be raped, while Republicans are demanding that American women pay to be raped by their doctors, on orders of the Republicans.
Conclusion: just like this sex-offender homeless guy who raped this homeless woman, the Republicans are also Sex Offenders, and should be registered as such, and monitored for the rest of their lives.

I’m the liason for occupysupply at the New Haven camp… I was on site at the time the ‘not a occupier’ was stretchered away by Emergency Personnel… rather than commenting on a poorly written story… mainly because the reporter was not on site, just a dial in piece that needs extensive corrections. Just so you know! OccupyNewHaven faced eviction today and was able through a court challenge to get a 2 week stay.
And what about all those murdered, oppressed lawn chairs holocausted during the Bagger Summer of Nein? WHO mourns for those lost piles of aluminum and plastic strapping brought down by another sort of piles. Who weeps for them?
