Let’s suppose that you “know” that Zimmerman wasn’t waving the gun around like Yosemite Sam. So, now it’s not ok for Martin to defend himself against someone who he knew was following him (for reasons unknown to him)? See, that’s something we DO know…that Martin at one point while Zimmerman was on the phone with 911 noticed that Zimmerman was following him, which is why he started running (also KNOWN from the 911 tape). We also KNOW from the tape that Zimmerman was instructed NOT to chase Martin…and yet he did, not only chase him, but chase him with a gun. We know he chased him with a gun because Martin ended up dead, and Zimmerman admits to shooting him. Here are some other things we KNOW: Martin was unarmed, Martin was not in the neighborhood for “suspicious reasons” unless watching a basketball game with your dad is “suspicious” and Martin had no criminal record.

From all of this, we can conclude that Martin is dead because Zimmerman ASSUMED some things about him that weren’t true. That’s the root of the whole thing. Otherwise, Zimmerman wouldn’t have called 911, wouldn’t have stalked him (with a gun), wouldn’t have (allegedly) been “jumped” by him after stalking him, wouldn’t have (also allegedly) had his nose broken, and Martin wouldn’t be dead. We know all of those things. And what they add up to, at a minimum, is manslaughter, though 2nd degree murder seems, from what we KNOW, to be a more appropriate charge.

Now, come back and tell us all how we should just take Zimmerman’s story as the only thing we need to consider because the only other person who could fill in the gaps of what we KNOW is now dead. And also, he was black.

If Zimmerman is found to have committed a crime, fine, let him fry. But Sharpton and Jackson are playing judge, jury, and executioner. George Will is one of the more influential mouthpieces for the Republican establishment. If he says something, more often than not it is exactly what the official Republican stance on an issue either already is or soon will be. About the only time this wasn’t so was back in the fall of 1999, when he and Tucker Carlson tried to sound the alarm about what a weak candidate Bush Jr. was, even with Karl Rove and hundreds of millions in oil money propping him up.

And those screams we all heard on the 9-1-1 call — you did listen to the tape,right, Shooter? — that was Trayvon screaming as he attacked a guy pointing a gun at him and Zimmerman just shot him to stop the screaming, right? Because everyone screams as they go after guys just innocently trying to get back in their cars, right? Do you have to listen to a lot of right-wing radio to come up with this shit, or do you just pull it straight out of your own ass?

and when are we going to get the cause of death? This testing for death due to an overdose of hate is taking far too long.

How do you know he wasn’t brought in by the police? Do you think they just laughed about a dead kid and said see you later? This isn’t 1950′s Mississippi.

It’s modern-day Florida, some parts of which can be almost as bad, and which – after 13 years of one-party rule – is a complete fucking mess, to the point that the legislature will pass laws designed to make this sort of thing (shooting black people who are “threatening” you) nice and legal whenever possible.

Let’s see if I have your position straight, shooter: A young black man walking down the street after dark is, by definition, suspicious. If anything bad happens to him, well, that’s how it goes–he shouldn’t have been acting suspiciously.
