Happy Tenth Anniversary of Blogging and Giving Up A Substantial Amount Of His Time When He Could Have Been Doing Something More Productive Like Scrap-Booking Or Maybe Playing Myst to Atrios.
As many long time readers might remember, Atrios (then known as Kurt Foster: Middle School Gym Coach of Mystery) first made his appearance (as did I) on Salon’s Tabletalk where we few, we happy few, we band of pupal stage-brothersloggers traded witticisms, bon mots, and all manner of japery and drolleries. From there he made the leap into “blogging” (a term that, to this day, still makes me cringe). Months later he sent me an email telling me that I needed to start a blog also too because “I’m stealing all your best shit” and then held my hand as I crossed the street into a world of Gilliard (“Fuck the fucking Yankees”), Cappozola in a time when we all thought Digby was A Dude.
And he is the reason that I came to be a “blogger” (ick) which produced Jenna & Not Jenna, The Virgin Ben, the 101st Fighting Keyboarders, America’s Worst Mother™, Crazy Jesus Lady, Gun Counter Gomer, “A Somewhat Popular Blogger”, Godlstein, The Alec Rawls Descent-Into-Madness-athon, Five Brothers Blogging, Hugh Hewitt’s nipples, Action Figure Theatre, Princess Jesus Boobies, Basset Blogging, Chunky Reese Witherspoon, Snowbilly Snooki, Mumia Sweatshirts, Jonah Always Leaving (okay, by popular request: Flowers For Goldberg), Erick Erick Erick Ericksonintoinfinity, endless screenings of Michelle Malkin trying to escape Earth’s gravitational shackles, tit-shimmying/ass-gyrating gifs, and Bill Kristol Eating a Big ol’ Bag O’ Salted Dicks.
All of this is the fault of Atrios who graciously launched myself as well as a thousand (give or take) blogs into Skippy’s Blogtopia.
I blame Obama.

This is certainly great news for John McCain!
It also produced weekly Shakira gifs, bassets, and a daily hangout for all us loser libtards to bemoan how life in this great nation of ours is going to hell in a handbasket. Nevertheless, thank you for your service.
I too blame Obama, of course.
How could you possibly forget Flowers for Goldberg???? Seriously, some of your best work: http://tbogg.blogspot.com/2005/05/flowers-for-goldberg-nro-post-day-one.html
Thanks for the Fountains of Wayne title.
This blog is a mainstay, a place where I know I can come for brilliant commentary and wry discourse. And basset photos. I’ve been coming here for years, said farewell to some candidates and to some sweet dogs, too. You can judge a blog by the commenters, and TBogg’s fans are among the smartest and funniest, which reflects well on our host.
Thanks for the memories, TBogg. Keep ‘em coming!
What is this “Blog” thing of which you speak?
While we’re strolling along the memory lane of blogging, y’know who I miss? Billmon. It’s been 2 years since his last diary at Kos, so I guess he’s really gone this time? One of these days, I need to download the Billmon archive and find his post from the days after Katrina. Heart-wrenching and beautifully written, it made you wonder: who IS this guy?
Congrats to Atrios, and thanks to Tbogg for keeping this place going.
Thanks for resurrecting this. I’d never seen it and the Keyes book is one of my all-time favorites.
But Goldberg’s a rat, not a mouse.
A is a good sort.
T is where I find myself to home naow.
It’s the Dogs.
And in tribute, a little night music from our student assistant:

Since Atrios often writes on local issues here in Philly, I had stumbled upon him while exploring the intertubez well before our somewhat popular demonic overlord. But I do believe (the early dawn of blogging is shrouded in mist, myth, and margaritas consumed to wash away the Bush/Cheney dark times) it was Duncan who linked to Tbogg’s Flower for Goldberg. If not my first stop here, certainly one of the first. If you have not read it, please, go there now. Here is a teaser;
NRO post day twelve
Today I rote an artical comparing George Bush and Dick Cheny to Gilligan and the skipper on Gilligans island, except that Dick Cheny was the skipper and he was in charge instead of president Bush. Kathrin said they couldnt use it, but I got ten dollars from Katrina vandenhuvel whos name I cant spell to good. She said they would just say that Greg Easterbrook rote it and no one would know the diference.
I bought snickers bars with the money.
Can barely type from laughing so hard – and I read it for the first time over half a decade ago! And I still remember laughing so hard back then over the ‘vandenhuvel’ line that Mrs. Hatmandu came in from the other room to ask me what was so funny. I showed her the site and she just said “Cute Pony”.
If it weren’t for TBogg, Sadly No, Poor Man, etc. I don’t know if I would have stayed sane back in those Bush years (esp. 2002 to 2004). They let me know that, yeah, I wasn’t imagining things — the clowns were running the circus. Thanks for that.
Well I for one desire a top ten Jackasses of the Decade. Also too top ten gifs of the decade.
That is the funniest thing I’ve ever read on the internet that wasn’t from fuckyouautocorrect or icanhazcheezeburger.
And always remember, whiny liberals, when in doubt, always whine “Grow.The.Fuck.Up.” the loudest.
I certainly appreciate your efforts to keep us apprised of the situation in West Blogistan for all these years.
Keep up the great work, TBogg.
Thanks,
Pete
Couldn’t have survived the past several years without you…or the boys.
And Juicebox.
Me too. No way would I have survived the Bush years without TBogg, Digby, Atrios, and Gilliard. Big old thank you from me…
Gilliard!!!
RIP
It’s true — Tbogg has the best commenters on the Internet, which I attribute to our host’s wry tolerance and shining example. I must admit, I was personally distressed when he moved in with Jane, and then the riff-raff began to drop in on certain evenings when they had nothing else to do. But I’ve managed to come to grips with sharing a room with some who don’t really like Mr. Bogg and his minions, and this is still my first stop every morning.
I remember when Atrios was Spartacus and we all thought Digby was a dude. Wow, it’s like I discovered the news about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny right here in this room. Good times.
Congratulations to Tbogg, the Lovely and Talented and Bootylicious wimmins in his life, and the dogs who always make my day better, just knowing they’re eating someone’s iPod case or new panties.
I know!
It’s a sad day when JuiceBox Jesus being sucked off by the press doesn’t make The List.
I blamed Obama but then went back to the Shakira/Obama 2012 thread and am now in my happy magic sparkle pony place!
My favorite has to be the Tar Baby:
Muchos Grassyass for the snark Tbogg. Oh, and for Shakiras ass too.
Five Not For Fighting is still my all-time favorite.
I remember when we had to wait 4 to 6 weeks to get our blogs in the mail.
Keep up the good work, Tbogg. I appreciate you and your regular commentors very much.
I had totally forgotten about that one. Also. Too. My daughter had to remind me about Princess Jesus Boobies.
Another from the archives . . .
“By Joe the Plumber’s Hammer, By the Sons of Wasilla, You Shall Be Avenged”
Oh.my.gawd.”Crackabloggahs.” Where was I when that one ran? Thank you, kama, for linking…somehow I missed it. I’m disappointed that that perfect word hasn’t caugh on.
Thank you TBogg, for all your work, as well as Atrios’s. I thought I went back pretty far, but not so far as Salon. I think I discovered you at your old place possibly before I found fdl, and Skippy around the same time. It’s hard to remember that far back.
What would we all have done all these years without you? And the dogz. Home of Snark and Bassets, thank you all.
perhaps off topic but i think Riverbend should be mentioned, whatever became of her, I do hope she is well.

Thursday Night Basset Blogging more than makes up for Hugh Hewitt’s nipples.
Chunky Reese Witherspoon
Although I depended on TBogg to get me through the horror of the 2004 election, this is the most hysterical post I have ever read, bar none.

Wait a minnit here, there was life before TBogg????? No, no — don’t make me remember back to those sad, dark snarkless times
If it makes you fell any better, Cappazola got me to start blogging – a Bar Blog. May have been one of the first ever, back in 03.
Still going, too.
Miss Jim and Gilly, too. Have been with all you fools since day one, and living to tell about it!
::
And now I steal all my best stuff from you.
It’s the Circle Of Life.
Cheers!
Tommy
Thanks for the mammaries, Wizard of the West. The Tuchus, too, also. Atrios is damned good, and I appreciate his spot, but I like your place better. More weirdness, which is what I have spent my life seeking out.
Also. Too. It’s great going back and perusing the old posts and seeing how many regular commenters are still around, not always the case at even the more than somewhat popular blogs, as people tend to come and go. It’s either a testament to Tbogg’s ever evolving talent, or we have all died and gone to some libertarian Sixth Sense hell, and our only refuge is to agitate our own Bruce Willis of San Diego.
Congratulations Tom. I was there for the early days on Table Talk, and I remember some of the ‘reasonable’ concern trolls you used to take to school. I’d like to say you’ve evolved over the years, but you’re still the same snarky bastard you were back then. Only funnier. Cheers!
Another fan here, and of Billmon, and of Gilliard.
I hope she’s safe in Syria or out of harm’s way. It would be great to see her writing online again. She and Shadid were at the top for news from Iraq. And Colby Buzzell.
Happy Anniversary, homo jocularis.
I have been meaning to post this for several days. I have been with you since TT too. You are Mr Snarkuhlicious. I used to go to several blogs. I am down to four blogs that I go to daily and,oh, maybe another half a dozen that I go to once/twice a week. You are in the top two. And while I still go to Eschaton, I don’t think Atrios has kept up with you in quality or quantity. You put out just a lot of good quality stuff consistently. To me you are the snark version of Steve Benen. Anyhoo, here’s for another decade unless the Kenyan soshulist muslim blackity black metrosexual puts you in the labor camps.
