Notice that this is “GEOT [lowercase l] E2323″ not the original account of George (using an “i” instead of that “l”). It’s not him, and if you look at the feed there are posts about “his spelling is better since he’s back on his meds”.

You wouldn’t have seen this if he hadn’t followed you first, and unless you are paying attention it looks just like his account.

Having been a keen observer of the whole sordid affair, I can’t believe it’s over. I mean, I really can’t believe it’s over. After the hatred and venom he spewed, the idea of a sincere and humble apology coming from George Tierney of Greenville, SC is, well, absurd.

No he kept deleteing and reactivating his original one. It was spelled with the letter “lower case eye” not “lower case elle” – it’s tough to see the difference even on a high res screen.

If you search for it is says “user not found” presumably because he is turning it off and on…I don’t think he’s been suspended. If you search for the fake now it says “user suspended”.

Late last night some user with Ann in her name was still trying to mix it up with him, and this account trolled her of a minute before she figured out it was a fake. Credit to her for noticing it. But I don’t want TBogg to fall for the same trick.

I think it has been pretty well documented that he is messed up and that he should be ignored. This is turning into Lord of the Flies and I want no further part in it.

Well as far as “letting it go” I already had, and figured that this was all over yesterday when he finally went silent and deactivated his account. I’ve got the feeling his family probably physically removed him from the computer or something along those lines.

But what I was trying to do here was point out that you are lumping this post in along with the original story, and this chapter of it is simply false. It’s not him. You fell for the same trick that some other Twitter user did last night. But when she realized she was being trolled she called it out, and it’s looking like you are just going to let it stand.

I mean yeah it’s an effective troll on the users part, but really no different that attributing these statements to someone who made an account that was “RealGeorgeTierney” or something like that.

Its simply not the original account was what I was trying to point out. No more, no less. Do what you want with that info.

I must say, at the onset of this journey, I believed this to be some of your best work. Good for you in recognizing the need to move on. Were you a conservative, you’d be on your 3rd victory lap (no doubt making war references… GET SOME!). Snark is an art, but so is knowing when to quit. Bravo on a job well done.

Regarding the wingnuts’ obsession with this Brett Kimberlin guy, yeah, objective information has been mighty hard to come by. Simple internet searches just turned up the usual wingnut circle jerks of mutual quoting and linking. Original and verifiable sources seemed to be quite rare, when I last looked.

My impression is that the dude was (and maybe still is) kind of a shady character. It looks like some wingnuts – possibly hoping that lefties would impulsively/instinctually rally around Mr. Kimberley – decided to make him their whipping boy, and he decided to fight back through the courts. One of the aforementioned wingnuts (the always adorable R.S. McCain, IIRC) didn’t show up for a court date, and was sanctioned accordingly. So now the wingnuts are playing the victim card, and McCain is claiming he had to abandon his current home because of the brouhaha. Less charitable explanations suggest that McCain is short on cash, and sees an opportunity to get some sympathy contributions from the wallets of clueless political allies.

In a post by John Cole asking your same question, some commenters (usually local Hoosiers in the know) seemed to offer up trustworthy background info.

33 years ago, Brett Kimberlin (then 18) set off a bomb at the Indianapolis Speedway [sic: actually, Speedway, IN, an fakey-ish municipality in the middle of Indianapolis; IMO, long and not-too-interesting a story]. Nobody was killed, but years later, one of the injured people took his own life. Kimberlin has been out of prison for some time now, and is now working for a lefty not-for-profit organization (which fights against, ironically, domestic terrorism among other things).

Now with a family and children, Kimberlin claims to be reformed, but a few right wing bloggers won’t let him move on from his past—they have been harassing him for years. He’s only recently started to fight back, primarily using the court system. So now he is being tagged as a suppressor of free speech.

Kimberlin was indeed an all around jerk back in the day, and was convicted of various drug/bombing/injuring offenses. As I recall he owned a health food restaurant that was his front and kindasorta tried to portray himself as an honest merchant/pillar of the community type but was too smarmy to pull it off (the food there sucked too). Whatever his good deeds may be now, back then he was pretty sociopathic and in my thankfully limited experience people like that don’t change. What amazes me is that they let him out at all; must’ve been before 9/11. Anyway, he was a jerk then and I’d guess he’s a jerk now.

Consider: his record and the fact that he got out early on a fifty year sentence.

Instead, supposedly here’s Kimberlin showing his ass, making threats, etc etc. That makes me wonder because while he’s a (supposedly reformed) all round bad guy/thug, he’s not a stupid man. Why would he expose himself that way – another offense would put him back in the joint for life. Plus, what’s with someone hiring him to do anything political? Hey, I’m all for redemption but if I was prominent in either party I wouldn’t get within three counties of this guy. He’s reformed? Good for him. Now let’s be serious and find somebody who doesn’t have that level of baggage.

Even on the eleven dimensional chess scale…I wouldn’t get within three counties of this guy.

Hi Stealth…it’s me Ann that you referenced in your post…from twitter. Friends & I have been following him relentlessly since he deleted his original twitter account. We’ve figured out how to find him on twitter. Right now he (and his bud) are several people on twitter…and they will attack you in the most vicious way, ask me. That fake acct TBogg talks about was him, but he hoped people would take it for a satire account. It’s been deleted after attacking me. I know TBogg wants it over, but in case others are interested and are on twitter: @brainfartzz (appropriate), @LALakersNo1Fan, @GCCountry and perhaps @hotmomma235. No doubt he’ll be other people tomorrow. Unfortunately, I’ve been rather taunting him with my own batch of twitter accounts, I can’t seem to help myself. I’m fighting back…but carefully, because he is vicious. I see where @GCCountry just began following @TBogg, @SandraFluke. Thought maybe @TBogg would like to wave at him…maybe not. Anyway, this whole episode is the most fun I’ve had in ages…thanks!

Re: Tierney, I had a somewhat similar case several years ago. Some of you may remember a guy in Florida who tried to trademark OBAMA BIN LADEN and was selling merchandise featuring Barack Obama in middle eastern clothing and toting a rifle. I did a post tearing the guy a new asshole. About a year or so ago, he wrote a comment on one of my more recent posts identifying himself. He said he realized it was wrong of him to do what he did and asked if I could delete the post I did about him so that it wouldn’t turn up in Google if potential employers tried to do research on him. Since he struck me as sincere, I complied with the request.

Some folks are drifting into vindictive territory that will ultimately make Tierney look sane and gentle by comparison. Aside from making one feel better about being an obnoxious online asshole because “he did it first,” what is that going to accomplish?

Let’s put this in a bit of perspective: Tierney is a very nasty-mouthed Internet Tough Guy troll with self-control issues, but he’s not Darth Vader and Hitler and Sauron rolled into one. Don’t make him your personal Great White Whale.

If we never hear from him again, fine.

If we do, and his contrition turns out to be an act by himself or someone else, we know the story and we have the relevant articles at hand and we can put the little yap-dog right back in his cage.

If the threatened lawsuit pops up again, unlikely as that may be, I know I’m ready to donate to the walk-in-the-park defense (and any counter-suit), and I’m sure TBogg doesn’t even have to rattle a cup to get the rest of us to pony up.
