Famous Historian and Almost Recipient Of Possible Consideration For An Award He Could Hang On His Mom’s Refrigerator Jonah Goldberg is just not “down with the hip cats” voting in elections possibly because they have never had “a very serious, thoughtful, argument that has never been made in such detail or with such care”, and because, when they’re not being young dumb and full of cum, they spend all their time Skrillexing. Which is a thing:
Appearing in a video published online on Thursday, Jonah Goldberg, editor-at-large for the neoconservative National Review Online website, explains that he believes letting 18-year-old Americans vote is a big mistake that should be taken back.
Advocating that conservatives should “literally” beat young people into political submission, Goldberg said that young voters are “so frickin’ stupid about so many things,” which is why, in his view, the system must change.
“It is a simple fact of science that nothing correlates more with ignorance and stupidity more than youth,” Goldberg said. “We’re all born idiots, and we only get over that condition as we get less young. And yet there’s this thing in this culture where, ‘Oh, young people are for it so it must be special.’ No, the reason young people are for it because they don’t know better. That’s why we call them young people.”
You should listen to him because he’s a doctor idiot and he knows whereof he speaks….

Yes, there IS something that correlates more with ignorance and stupidity, but “youth” is not the correct answer. The correct answer has to do with that saying that not all conservatives are stupid, but all stupid people are conservative.

Someone remind me (because I’m one of those dumb young people), how recently was it that the GOP was whooping it up about ‘South Park Conservatism’ and how hip young people were abandoning liberal fossils like Ted Kennedy and Pelosi because the right wing was speaking their language? 10 years back? 5?
If the prevailing demography was suddenly reversed (i.e. if young people started trending conservative and old folks trended liberal), dishonest fartbags like J-Gold would talk about how the senility and bitterness of geezers made them totally unfit to exercise the franchise. Wouldn’t even blink his eye.

If Sarah Palin of Paul Revere’s Ride-fame can vote, and Michelle Bachmann, who believes “the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to free the slaves” can vote, and everyone (above 18 yrs old) on the left side of the Bell Curve can vote (and here I submit in evidence John Stuart Mills’ quote: Not all conservatives are stupid, but all stupid people are conservatives),and people who watch Fox News exclusively can vote, then good ole Jonah is just not casting a wide enough “un-smarts” net.

As I recall, it was because of the Vietnam War and young men getting drafted at 18. The drinking age was lowered in most states to 18, too, for a while.

I’m tempted to say that I’d support taking away the voting rights of every under-21 soldier coming home from Iraq that Jonah has the guts to knock on the door of and tell to his face that he’s not smart enough to vote. But that’s unfair to the veteran.
Still, I’d pay some real money to see him try.
