It’s kind of odd seeing that, I looked up La Jolla’s demographics earlier today.
According to U.S. Census Bureau figures, the ethnic/racial makeup of La Jolla is 82.5% White, 0.8% Black, 0.2% American Indian, 11.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.0% some other race, and 3.1% two or more races. Latinos, who may be of any race, form 7.2% of La Jolla’s population.
It’s also apparently got a long history of not being fond of Jews.
I grew up in La Jolla & spent the first 20 years of my life there.
You are correct, La Jolla was “restricted”. I’m told there USED to be a “gentleman’s agreement” among real estate agents to not sell to Jews….which more or less ended when the University of California San Diego (which is in La Jolla) was built in 1960.
Mittens is going to ruin the neighborhood with his house scheme. The area is charming, lots of old little houses, narrow streets…Plus, he is right on the beach, which is not private, but I guess it will become so when crawling with security.
last bit of my rant: I don’t partake, but smoking a joint on the beach is a time honored tradition and who does he think he is, anyway? a cop? (oh, right……..)
If Mitt wins he will sell the house in La Jolla. Not enough security for a pres, donchaknow.(Too public) And if he loses, he will sell cause not enough security for a prismatic asshole.
It was a bit more than a “gentleman’s agreement.” In many cases, the houses had deeds that stated that the property could not be transferred to anyone not of the Caucasian race or Christian faith. Incidentally, the cross on Mt. Soledad was allegedly erected when the citizens of La Jolla were told that the new branch of the University of California would be located in La Jolla, but that they would not be able to exclude Jews and foreigners from living there if they wanted to attract top academic talent. That didn’t sit too well.
San Diego is still fighting over whether they can keep that damn cross on public land. I suggested 10 years ago that they give it a “secular purpose” by turning it into a cell tower. It couldn’t be any tackier than the fake palm trees that serve the same purpose. I’m sure the powers-that-be were appalled. So, now it may go to the U.S. Supreme Court. That’s at least another million in legal fees down the tubes….
Rumor has it that the place in La Jolla wasn’t his first choice; Mittens is just miffed because they wouldn’t let him buy in at “The Covenant,” (Rancho Santa Fe) which is the center of of money and power in Republican politics. If Mitt wins he won’t NEED the house in La Jolla.
Oh, he’s selling the place once he spots a black guy anywhere near his ZIP Code.
If only we had elected that badass mofo.
I blame everybody that ever voted for anybody besides the guy I like, plus the guys they voted for.
Now, who amongst us does not have a photo of ourselves trying to look adult badass or adult sexy when we were teens?
And who amongst us later decided we hadn’t really pulled it off?*
*A lifetime of being constantly nose-first in books can be triggered by many, many things…
I always wondered how long it took between the time he showed up at home like that and the time his Grandpa showed him the back of his hand….
Someone inhaled… quite a lot, actually.
Mitt Romeny and the Surf Punks. Bros’ for life.
(In case TBogg was wondering how long it would take for this song to come up, it took 6 comments)
Went looking for Mr Young, found this instead, and liked it.
The story of “Walking While Black” in La Jolla, as told by the guy who took it to the Supreme Court and won:

17 minutes, but worth the time.
