Real ‘Muricans in Montana and their funny Kenyan Usurper Bathroom Humor:
Political conventions often feature unique offerings. But the gun/shovel/duct tape raffle and the bullet-“pocked” outhouse at the Montana GOP convention might have pushed the envelope.
[...]
There was less laughter – although plenty of picture-taking – of an outhouse labeled “Obama Presidential Library” parked outside Missoula’s Hilton Garden Inn, where the convention took place.
Nothing on the outhouse indicated who was responsible for it, although it made an appearance in the Memorial Day parade in Corvallis in Ravalli County.
The outhouse was painted to look as though it had been riddled by bullets.
Inside, a fake birth certificate for Barack Hussein Obama made reference to the disproven controversy over the president’s origins. It was stamped “Bull––.” A graffito advised “For a Good Time call 800-Michelle (crossed out), Hillary (crossed out) and Pelosi (circled in red.)”
State GOP Chairman Will Deschamps of Missoula said he didn’t know who’d brought the outhouse, but dismissed it as “a sideshow.”
“It’s not something I’m going to agonize over,” he said. “Some of that stuff is not real good taste. We do have a president of the United States, and we have to honor that.”
Well, just because it was parked out front of your GOP convention after appearing in a Memorial Day Parade is no reason to get all pissy about it.

The takeaway; of course, is Montana conservatives consider a hole in the ground full of shit an institution of higher learning.
Do they really think they’re fooling anybody with this “Gee, I dunno…” bullshit?
Yes, they think they are fooling some people. That they’re not actually fooling anyone is something else.
I thought Obama was some arrogant Harvard elitist who looked down on the outhouse shitting common folk. I has a confuse.
Plausable deniability
Butte Holes the lot of them.
That’s all the “support for Romney” that they can muster.
Yet another tale from flyover country that I can identify with too well. Funny thing about Montana is they got a pretty cool Guv who should be a model for the Dems dealings with the psycho-right.
I have been warning y’all about our Montana Republicans. They may be few in numbers (as are people generally here), but the crazy is strong in them and they are armored with their invincible ignorance and stupidity.
Given that that they elected a HS dropout with a GED who ran a family garbage hauling business with her husband and son as governor, you are actually correct. At that time, I believe that only one of the top three Republican officials had attended college.
Mandatory Butte Hole reference citation. And, yes, they really are just as toxic.
meh .. montana .. it’s june and their intertoobs must have finally thawed out .. no worry .. they’ll be froze up again from september on … lol
Montana was my home until 4 years ago when I moved to Vermont and Yep, Crazy is not in short supply in Montana. Regardless of the outhouse…and people’s educational level, Montanan’s remember then candidate Obama spending large amounts of time there on the campaign trail, for holidays…being adopted by the Crow…(that is another story altogether) touting clean coal…Promising change…Yeah, things changed all right and Montanan’s are aware that the changes he’s made have done nothing but hurt Montana and its people. I don’t think he has done one good thing for Montana since being elected. Just so you guys know, I’m an Independent, but think the out-house stint really was all about sending a message. Obviously the stuff about the birth certificate is a bunch of crap…but think about it…What has he actually done to make our life better here on American soil??? Where is the real employment? Health care? education? environment? Civil Liberties??? Banking industry? He needs to be held accountable (along with everyone else who has sold out America to the highest bidder). If he decides to show up in Montana again, he better have very good security, as like everyone here has said, Crazy is not in short supply in Montana.
I moved to Montana four years ago from Berkeley, where I lived for twenty years. This post and some of it’s associated comments offend me.
We all want things fixed, but creating unnecessary divisions between people is not the answer. You really think Montana has nothing to offer and is nothing but a flyover state? Your biases, prejudices, and stink of superiority are showing.
The governor here is Democratic, and is a leading voice for single payer health care. He also likes to veto bills worth a branding iron.
Both if our senators are Democrats. One of them is tirelessly working to overturn citizens united.
Montana is close to becoming a swing state. There are way more crazy assholes in California, but because it’s a blue state it gets a pass.
You want to win the war, but there are no winners in war. You’ve got to stop the war in your own hearts and minds. That’s the most progressive thing you can do. This kind of crap does nothing but show how small you are.
I’m no Obama defender but having spent a considerable amount of time in your former state I will say the only trouble with the place is the people who live there. Montanans, like all rural politically dominated states, is chuck full of a-holes with more guns than brain cells. I plan to spend a lot of my summer time, after retiring, in Montana and like all good neighbors I will get a couple of good guard dogs and keep to myself. But redneck peckerwood is not a common disease unless you have to mix with the locals to much. I don’t see overt racism like this in Oregon, for example. Texas is another place, like Montana, where you don’t have to scratch very hard to find a-holes by the gross. Just sayin’.
What a chicken-shit statement. Way to go there, Buck Dodgers.
I am not going to generalize the juvenile antics at a Montana GOP convention to Montana itself (the graphic accompanying this blog post does that). However, I am frankly disturbed by what is happening at that convention – humor is fine but pandering to peoples’ worst flaws, such as true mental laziness and childishness, that should go beyond the pale for any respectable political party.
Video from this convention, showing the outhouse, the other things, should go on MSNBC during news hour, or similar. I think exposure would be a good thing for the Montana GOP.
He assuredly is a Harvard elitist! And if I had *my* way, Harvard (and Yale) would be barred from receiving any public funding for anything whatsoever – that money needs to go to the PUBLIC university system. That, however, is a different discussion for a different day.
I’ll not judge someone for their education honors alone, thanks. No way!
Thanks, and well put. It’s a bit ironic, isn’t it, some of the “populists” and “humanists” posting here who want aid for the poor, improvement in education, and a better life for the Common Man, striking a haughty pose in the face of people who may not have high education achievement, lots of money, or worldly exposure? If I was a Montana resident, and I read some of this stuff, I’d want to sneer at latte-sipping liberal elitists, myself. I write that as I ponder the double-shot espresso beverage near my right hand, actually.
This is no apology for the behavior of the Montana GOP, though, I really think this sort of thing they did should get national exposure. Completely uncivil and pandering to the worst instincts in people.
Jane could use the number of concern trolls that show up in comments after Tbogg gets frontpaged as a more solid metric of how many new eyeballs she’s getting in any given week.
Demonic Ridicule Machine, bitches. get some.
Just an observation that to govern effectively, you have to know a bit about the world. I do not judge a person’s character or merit by their accomplishments, but I do judge their qualifications for public office (or any other job) by them. You may be happy to have semi-literate yahoos govern your state, but I am not (and I had to live through that debacle).
Concern trolls are concerned.
What you call “concern troll” may be in actuality “someone who is creeped out by ignoramuses with mindless insults against people they’ve never met in places they’ll never go to.”
Fair; it’s also fair to point out that George W. Bush was a graduate of both Yale and Harvard, as well as I believe the Andover private prep school? Likewise, Bush was the son of a former Vice-President, President, and CIA director who grew up exposed to a peer group comprised of the sons and daughters of world leaders, ranging from Americans through even Saudi princes. And you can see how well he turned out …
Concern trolls can bite me. No the whole state is not batshit crazy (I live here and Missoula, Helena, and Great Falls are pretty liberal) and dumb as a box of rocks (though a large part of eastern Montana and select pockets of western portions are), but Montana Republicans all are. This piece is not even the worst case example, indeed it is pretty run of the mill.
He also never accomplished anything on his own, but got everything he ever had based on his daddy’s influence (do you think you could get into Yale with a “C” average in high school or into the Harvard MBA program with the same undergraduate average?). The exact same standard applies here.
I’m at a loss. Montana GOP acts like the damfools they are and Harvard is blamed for not providing statewide support and should be defunded?
So, then, accomplishing something on one’s own might be a higher qualifier than a daddy-gifted education at elitist academies? I suggest to you that someone who ends up getting a GED had to at some point make a decision to do something on his or her own …
And what of Obama? The great constitutional law scholar? He’s become the antithesis of a civil rights president, and has largely succeeded only in manipulating liberals and leftists angry over Bush in a single election, before continuing a large number of Bush’s most odious policies.
My message to you is not that we should avoid illiterate yay-hoos in positions of power, but that education itself may be no useful factor in assessing someone for public office.
In our history as a nation, for example, the labor unions and laws that you and I hold dear were created as a result of activism driven and led by people who were hardly educated elites. The entire history of labor activism in the US is a history of people who may not have had a bunch of degrees or worldly ways.
Have a good day -
Save it. I’ve lived half my life in small towns in the South. The insults aren’t mindless.
Also, not that it’s any of your business, but there’s lots “flyover country” that I love.
Yeah, they can bite me too.
I only passed my Boolean algebra course by bribinbg the prof w/ Jack Daniel’s, plus being a vet on the GI Bill cuff.
I understand logic better than the Montana Republikkanz.
And the concern trolls really should polish their Karl Rove/Dick Cheney schtick.
This site is more like “Daily Kos” – which I gave up permanently prior to 2004 – with every passing month. You get this group of people who aren’t very intelligent but together believe they are right, and superior, and feel free to dismiss, label, and insult any individual or group of people anywhere that does not sort of parrot whatever the blog author is writing, or receive written praise from the blog author.
I suppose groupthink and the mob mentality are unavoidable realities, and part of the fun of this stuff if taken in the doses.
Yeah, I’m like Dick Cheney! I’m like Karl Rove! Right!
(Yours has to be one of the stupidest comments I’ve ever seen on this web site — people discussing the demerits of labeling the entire population of Montana as “idiots” or “crazies” because of the poor convention behavior of the Montana GOP are “like Dick Cheney/Karl Rove”. Jesus, get a grip.)
So the Montana GOP acts like assholes, and … this is Obama’s fault?
As is his getting himself the education most likely to help his personal and political goals?
It really is a little odd.
Public service announcement: This is a humor site whose mission is to ridicule the crazy.
Ooooh, here we go!
Actually, as a “concern troll”, I am more like Hitler than Cheney or Rove. Let me help you out there. I admit it! I am a lot like Hitler. Cheney and Rove ain’t got nothing on me! If this was a game of political evil mastermind hoops I’d be droppin’ three-pointers over those two guys’ heads! I don’t know, maybe “concern troll” is even worse than Hitler! I am more like Ghengis Khan, mixed with Machiavelli, with only a touch of Hitler, and a light dusting of Cheney and Rove!
Rahhhhr!
Please. You’ve wandered into the wrong room. ‘Fighting and arguments’ are down the hall, first door to the right.
This is the Department of Funny Walks!
Sixgill, goneaftertoady, I was born and raised on an Indian reservation in Montana.
I get to call Montana conservatives any fucking thing I want to…
I thought it was the argument clinic
No, no – clincal practicum is down the hall to the left. I believe they’re having OSCEs right now.
I grew up in Montana, raised my children there, graduated from the University of Montana with degrees in Sociology and Native American Studies, attended Dartmouth…All on MY tab. My mother lives outside of Great Falls. Yes, there are crazy people in Montana…There are crazy people everywhere…
Not to defend the Montana GOP, but they are desperate and used what any other political entity would to win. They played on the emotions of the people. And yes, this is Obama’s fault. If he would have actually done what he promised for the people of this land, even his opponents might have a little more respect for him. The problem here, is not that someone actually did this, but the supposed leadership condoned it. In Montana, that is equivalent to throwing gas on a fire.
One more thing, If some are offended by what they are reading here, maybe you need to ask yourself what is it about you that you are having a problem with. Christ!!! Where the hell do you think you are reading? It is the job of the people who write here to offend, to challenge and hopefully educate for the betterment of humanity.
Management really does need to put better door signs up. It seems 1Freerein is just the latest example of confusing TBogg with the rest of FDL Mothership…
Shorter sixgills: everyone who disagrees with me is obviously a stupid poopyhead. And you want to accuse me of elitism?
On the porch, in my jammies with a big cup of coffee!
Where the hell do you think your commenting? FDL Mothership?
Well, that didn’t take long did it?
THE MONTANA GOP’S STUPIDASSERY IS OBAMA’S FAULT!
All right now – could we possibly move past this?
Nope, not confused. I know that this particular blog and its owner at the Lake has had questionable posts with questionable opinions. At the very least it gets people talking. Sometimes talking like they are in grade school, but none the less talking.
So, if one is offended by what they are reading and one does not want to work on self improvement, Stop Complaining and turn the f***ing page.
Montana’s unemployment rate is 6.3% and its GDP has increased 2.95 since 2008.
TBogg! You have published questionable posts! You will be judged!
Self improvement?
Fuck that shit! I’m here for the fun!
A lot of times it works like this: 1) TBogg posts something and the regulars go off on a rollicking good circus. 2)Concern troll and/or humorless reader gets panties in a wad and goes a bit sideways in comments. 3) TBogg’s regulars go off on a rollicking good circus (as in last weekends Long Haired Hippy rendition).
We also are at the front of the pack on the number of people working two or more jobs and the average household income is not quite $44,000, or about 85% of the national average.
Sometimes, self improvement means learning how to have fun and laugh. Thanks for the laugh…
Most everyone I know in Montana is working 2-3 part time jobs just to afford a small apartment and basic living expenses. Montana is a beautiful place to live if you can afford it.
Montana is a beautiful place to live if you can afford it.
That wonderful ‘scenery tax’. It became too steep for me about 12 years ago.
You would not fucking believe how green Oregon is.
Sure are a lot of people who take this blog way too seriously.
Remember, the specialty here is snark, and snark is not always tasteful.
But neither is that outhouse. Or a lot of the other stuff that the GOP has gone for in the last decade.
It was that awesome scenery tax that made my mom sell her place in Livingston. It wasn’t much, but it was paid for. Then the crazies from California moved to the Paradise and the property taxes went through the roof. Imagine living in a place your whole life and having to sell it because you could not afford the property tax…
That is pretty much how I feel about Vermont-The Green Mountain State.
That would be western Oregon. Eastern Oregon is pretty much desert.
If only Income taxes weren’t a fascistliberalcommie plot?
Tragic really.
Yeah, I’ve heard that. Never been there… :)
Try to persuade people not to move to Santa Fe.
There is a lot of that here in western Montana. In addition, a lot of the wealthy (or at least prosperous) immigrants do not want to pay any taxes, especially not local taxes.
What’s really sad is that when Arizona decides to invade the United States, New Mexico will bear the brunt of the attack.
There are way more crazy assholes in California, and Then the crazies from California moved to the Paradise
Greetings from Hollywood.
I suppose that’s what I get for some hefty sneering at Florida earlier, but for the record, hillbillies, we’re not crazy, we’re merely creative. Assholes, perhaps, but personally I think New York City still has the edge there. Also, our baseball team can beat your baseball team any day of the week.
Silly – that was what we prepared for in 1912. That and ensuring Nevada had no water supply. These 115F days help deflect incoming, as well as make even screwier the people who’ve been here for awhile. All part of the plan!
At the risk of whatever…
I have my own “issues” with Obama, but let’s not go there.
I have seen photos of this outhouse (or at least another one that’s damn similar. Who knows? Perhaps the Kochs manufactured a fleet of ‘em) appearing regularly on certain rightwing websites & email forwards almost since the day Obama was elected, plus showing up at some Tea Party “rallies.”
It/they have been used to gin up racism amongst the tribalistic authoritarian Tea Baggers. Despite my own “issues” with Obama, I find such tripe offensive and unnecessary, but I guess it’s *somewhat* less offensive than that Dachau Death Camp sign that skeevy creep Eric Canter was only too too happy to prance in front of decrying the “death camp” that’s allegedly ObamaCare.
Sadly, this is what “politics” has devolved to in these Yew Knighted States. MT State GOP Chairman Will Deschamps is part of the problem, not the solution.
While traveling the country this last winter, I met many wealthy Americans who do not want to pay taxes, so they registered their Luxury RV in places like Montana, South Dakota and Ohio…I’m not sure where Ohio fits in. The RV owners didn’t even live in the states in which their RV’s were registered. Just the registration fees alone in Montana are outrageous. I personally had a car (middle of the road brand) that was 10 years old and was paying almost $200 for plates for 1 year. Imagine the cost of plates for that luxury rv….but, no income tax, no sales tax…
Here in Hippy/TrackTownUSA/Eugene we’re gearing up as host to the US Olympic Track-n-Field Trials later this week. It’s fun talking with out-of-staters who are blown away by the the U of O campus lushness…
Then WTF are you here, complaining about how bad its is because it isn’t run to your personal standards?
Go start your own blog.
Nah, hse is doing much better than half-dozen-fish-lungs.
That’s why they’ve won so many World Series since the O’Malleys sold them.
(Orange and black!)
I lived in Montana for 9 years. Three of my children were born there. Yeah, there are some crude republicans there. I think the holes in the outhouse are just a reflection of the fact that every outhouse, stop sign, mail box etc in Montana has pretty much been shot at. Mailbox baseball is a prety big sport. It is what rednecks do.
However, I don’t see New York or Los Angeles, mounting much of a defense against Citizens United. Montanans are independent. And they are fighting that fight pretty much on their own.
I’m back in Colorado now, and I would gladly trade Hickenlooper for Brian Schweitzer as Governor. Obama has been a huge idsppointment to the Rocky Mountain states. Not me, he is exactly what I expected from him. I voted for every democrat in every race for 40 years, but I did not vote for Obama in 2008 and I won’t this time either. Becuase of the way his “fans” treated Hilary Clinton and the people who voted for her, I am no longer a Democrat. I am Independent and I will vote for Rocky Anderson or Jill Stein.
But, you folks from cities need to quit being so sensitive. I mean, I remember how we all depicted Bush and it was nasty. He deserved it, but in many ways Obama has pretty much not done a damned thing to bring us out of the shithole we have been in for years. So if they depict him as president of a shithole, well he helped turn this country into one for millions of citizens. In case you don’t know it, a lot of Americans don’t have a pot to piss in anymore, and Obama has gone out of his way to protect those who took our homes.
He has gone way past Bush in terms of civil rights violations, he is bombing the shit out of the whole world. He chases pot smokers, immigrants and whistle blowers like they were terrorists at the same time He’s been sucking up to bankers like he was a Republican. He was pretty antigay until it suited him and I know you aren’t going to defend Stupak Amendment. He is perfectly happy to destroy our safety net.
I know it is popular to act like it is so offensive to depict Obama as less than godlike, but you guys did it to Palin and McCain. You don’t remember the cunt remarks? Well I do. Hanging Palin in effigy, I do. Hell, you treated Hilary that way and she is a better democrat than Obama ever was.
HE’S JUST LIKE AL GORE!!!
VERY WELL PUT! My points exactly. America is worse off than 4 years ago. American civil liberties and Constitutional rights have been stripped and all people are upset about is a depiction of an outhouse with bullet holes??? Obama brought this on himself. I too have abandoned the Democratic Party and am now an Independent.
huh?
I don’t think I said what you think I said.
Oops, that was supposed to be a reply to ‘apishapa’.
In regard to criticizing Obama from the Left. Please read the following and think about it?
“I hate how Obama isn’t progressive/liberal enough, therefore I want a Republican to be President.”
an outhouse with bullet holes??? Obama brought this on himself.
Wow, he shits bullets!
FTFY
Some eejit musta put rebar in the walls to make them ricochets
Amen.
The general rule as I’ve heard and seen it: Western Montana (where the mountains and most of the major settlements like Missoula are located) is pretty cool, it’s the eastern part of the state where the knuckledraggers rule. The eastern half’s the land of the Montana Freemen of “Justus Township” infamy.
I never said I wanted a Republican to be President. That’s why I didn’t and won’t vote for either Romney or Obama. They are about the same. I am sick to death of this lesser of two evils crap. To be honest I don’t really think Obama was the lesser of two evils between him and McCain. The Democratic Senate would never let a Republican get away with the constant stripping of civil rights that they have happily granted to Obama. The fact that Obama is free to go so far past what Bush ever dreamed of doing is a warning about what is coming. He is determined to turn the world into a global plutocracy. Obama claims powers way beyond anything ever contemplated by Bush, and we would never have let Cheney get away with it. Bush did not claim the right to murder American citizens without trial or charges. Obama does. Bush may not have liked whistleblowers, but he did not pursue them with the passion Obama does. Obama acts like killing people wit robot planes is a game.
He has no soul. I’m sorry if it offends Obama supporters, but that is the truth. Maybe Romney would try to go past what Obama has done, but it would be a steep climb. And Obama is the one that showed him it can be done. Obama pretends to have empathy for those of us he has harmed when it suits him, but he will still take everything we have and hand it over to his friends, and take away our right to object.
A gentle reminder of past history:
That’s right, kids: Richard Nixon, in order to help his chances at the polls, committed high treason and ordered it to be committed, at the cost of an additional million Vietnamese and twenty-two-thousand American lives.
Yet most of the “liberal” US media refuses to discuss this.
On the other hand, if Nixon were a Democrat, he’d not only have been impeached and removed from office, he could very well have been hung for doing what he did. Just look at how Clinton was nearly railroaded out of office over a non-event.
Truly an evil bastard.
Somebody took that as a challenge…
apishapa writes: He has no soul. I’m sorry if it offends Obama supporters, but that is the truth.
The simple fact that you cannot tell the difference between a fact and your opinion is evidence of psychosis.
If you think Montana is bad, try Wyoming to say nothing about Utah or Idaho or Arizona or Texas or South Carolina or Flor……
My heart bleeds. In parts of So-Cal, most notably those near our blog-host’s residence, gas finally costs close to $4 per gallon–from a high above $5. Groceries cost about 30% more than in the rest of the country. A very basic house will run you at least $325,000–that’s if you want one that hasn’t been stripped of all fixtures by the previous owners who have been foreclosed upon, and if you can put down 25% to buy it. Otherwise, rent averages more than $2,000 for a 2 or 3 bedroom flat, your water bill often exceeds $120 bi-monthly, electric & gas run about $100 per month, and basic cable is about $50 per month. Smartphone service is about $90 per month. A family that makes $52,000 per year here is barely scraping by. And you wonder why some of us move to YOUR state?
Yeah, I’m disappointed that Obama hasn’t done anything about the economy. I also realize that just about any fix that happens has to originate with Congress–specifically the House–which has been controlled by Conservatives during the worst of this economic fiasco.
So all of you people who plan on voting as Independents in protest, feel free. Just don’t bitch to the rest of us when nothing happens–because that’s a virtual guarantee that you’ll get more of the same.
WTF does that have to do with anything I said? I gave up on third party voting 30 years ago as you are just wasting your vote. I was responding to Owlbear’s comment about Montana having lower unemployment than most of the nation. The recession did not hit us as hard because you do not have far to fall when you are already near the bottom. We are a relatively poor state and have been for decades. If anything, Obama’s anemic stimulus has had a positive effect in the state (there are dozens of projects it funded within 20 miles of where I am). I am not happy with Obama, but the alternatives are all much worse.
It isn’t like that everywhere in SoCal. And gas is still well above $4 a gallon in my area.
Romney has no moral or ethical core at all. Obama’s is squishy, but it’s there.
It is down to $3.65 here, which is still about a dime more than the national average, and we actually have refineries in the state.
Ah, cheap gas. I’d show up there to buy it,k but getting there would cost more than the gas is worth. And somehow I don’t think everyone in MT would appreciate it. (Sort of like driving through Oklahoma in a car with Texas plates.)
Concern troll is just another name for a racial bigot without a clue.
Not to defend the Montana GOP, but they are desperate and used what any other political entity would to win. They played on the emotions of the people. And yes, this is Obama’s fault. If he would have actually done what he promised for the people of this land, even his opponents might have a little more respect for him.
Ri-i-i-i-ght! If only Obama had “done what he promised” all the knuckle-dragging right wing Republicans of Montana wouldn’t call him a n****er.
And if he hadn’t been wearing that short skirt and drinking a beer in a bad part of town……
Fucking concern trolls.
I know it is popular to act like it is so offensive to depict Obama as less than godlike,
Oh, right. Bullet-pocked shitter, implication his wife is a whore = “less that godlike.”
duly noted.
Don’t worry we are not offended by what you say. Most of us think you live in a fantasy world that will never exist.
Just don’t, expect us play along with your fantasies.
And quit whining when somebody points out that voting for a candidate that 99.99999% of the people in this Country has never heard of, is effectively voting for Romney.
What you are doing is not admirable, it’s just stupid.
It wasn’t a personal swipe. Yours was just the last in a series of whinging about “ain’t it AWFUL how the damn CA liberals vote for that black guy who RUINS our country’s economy, and then they all move HERE to f*ck things up PERSONALLY for US!” before I stopped reading. What can I say; I like numbers. For what it’s worth, our esteemed local politicians have also officially proclaimed that $10/hr. is a living wage in this metro area. (I can’t believe my good fortune! Pinch me!)
Excuse me, but I never said that, or anything remotely resembling it, anywhere in this thread (or elsewhere for that matter). We were talking about conditions in Montana, where I live and where Owlbear was born. So either improve your reading comprehension or fuck off and die.
Ruthie & DrDick-
In the words of the late Rodney King; Can’t we all just get along?
He also said “Ouch. Quit hitting me” but that may not apply here.
Well, I’m with you in I consider myself an Independent, and I am incredibly disappointed in BHO’s performance but I’m a realist. I’m sure you know where this is going… I’m not trying to be combative here, but I’d really like to know how we can get back to the left in this country. Total revolution? Apocalyptic catastrophe? A supervirus that only enters through the Wingnut propaganda uptake cellular receptor (okay, this one is over the top, I digress)
What I hear from your camp is “BHO isn’t progressive enough in my book for my concerns. In fact he is indistinguishable from the RMoney alternative.” (please correct if this is entirely off base)
Okay but recently he’s scored points with Women, Latinos and LBGT’s. As a misanthropic, WASPY/pasty, y-chromosome possessing, straight, citizen of “flyover country”, on paper I’d have little reason to support Obama and the whole crooked mess of DC – why do such a thing?
Well:
I have sisters and nieces.
I have a lesbian cousin.
Uh, no Latinos anywhere near here, but I don’t want anyone of any skin color shipped back to “where they came from” if only to feebly preserve the illusion of our white, pasty, WASPy, majority.
So short of those highly improbable examples of total overthrow I gave above the only way of any change is just how the Right started doing it all those years ago – gradual, insidious, relentless pushing of an agenda. We have an even tougher row to hoe with all the money and power against us, but any further creeping right HAS to be stopped with any means possible.
It’s a shit system, and IMO people that put their lives on the line for whats right (Greenpeace, War Protestors, Amnesty International, Whistleblowers…) should have their likenesses set in marble and placed on the DC mall – It ain’t gonna happen. All we can do is our part, as small is may be, to push back, even when it doesn’t directly effect us, even when it’s not a pet cause. Throwing your vote behind a nobody if only in protest may seem fruitful to you, obviously I don’t.
Okay, this is getting into manifesto territory here, but I am truly interested and I don’t think we’re far apart on where we’d like the country to go, so I’d really like to hear how you envision us getting back to sanity.
No, I think that second part is apt too – if only figuratively.
