..and here is what Mitt Romney’s people will be attempting to defuse on Monday after Mitt’s Hamptonspalooza:
A New York City donor a few cars back, who also would not give her name, said Romney needed to do a better job connecting. “I don’t think the common person is getting it,” she said from the passenger seat of a Range Rover stamped with East Hampton beach permits. “Nobody understands why Obama is hurting them.
“We’ve got the message,” she added. “But my college kid, the baby sitters, the nails ladies — everybody who’s got the right to vote — they don’t understand what’s going on. I just think if you’re lower income — one, you’re not as educated, two, they don’t understand how it works, they don’t understand how the systems work, they don’t understand the impact.”
…and
Laura R. Schwartz of New Jersey, the woman inside the Range Rover, complained that Mr. Obama had not visited Israel as president, a slight to the country, in her eyes. “I don’t think he is good for Israel,” she said. Mr. Romney, she said, “is a fresh face.”
A few cars back, Ted Conklin, the owner of the American Hotel in Sag Habor, N.Y., long a favorite of the well-off and well-known in the Hamptons, could barely contain his displeasure with Mr. Obama. “He is a socialist. His idea is find a problem that doesn’t exist and get government to intervene,” Mr. Conklin said from inside a gold-colored Mercedes as his wife, Carol Simmons, nodded in agreement.
Ms. Simmons paused to highlight what she said was her husband’s generous spirit: “Tell them who’s on your yacht this weekend! Tell him!”
Over Mr. Conklin’s objections, Ms. Simmons disclosed that a major executive from Miramax, the movie company, was on the 75-foot yacht, because, she said, there were no rooms left at the hotel.
In Southampton, where Mr. Koch lives, the local police spent much of Sunday gearing up for as many as 200 protesters, a rare sight in these precincts. It would be “the first large-scale protest” the village has ever had, Chief Tom Cummings said.
The packed schedule of fund-raisers seemed to create some confusion among the guests. As he pulled up outside Mr. Perelman’s estate, Ms. Schwartz’s companion initially wondered if he was the home of the Koch brothers.
Oh, he said, not yet.
“We are going to all of them,” Ms. Schwartz explained.
Suddenly wealthy entitled house & horse mom Ann Romney looks like Mother Teresa…

I don’t know if this sorry-ass bunch of A-grade grifters and unrepentant nation rapists could do much to improve Anne’s entrenched position as one of them.
As far as I can tell, this is shaping up to be the 1-percenter equivalent of an Alabama cookout — free market incest, if you will, where the guy who sold your company short and made a few billion is flirting with the wife of the guy who later sued the shareholders and made a few billion, but he doesn’t know that she’s already having an affair with the hedge fund manager who…
A Mercedes, a yacht, and dinner with a movie exec-or as the Romneys call it, “Tuesday.”
How come we never get to see all three Anns at once?
Arriving by car, instead of by helicopter, is simply barbaric.
V.I.P.Bitchez.Get some!
When the Kenyan Usurper reigns victorious this November, the butt-hurt outrage will be a technicolor bukkake of wonderfulness, all over schmucks like these.
The average Amurkkkin is not a fan of piss down their backs, as the trickle-down economic system of Rmoney has been exposed to be.
If the black guy loses, we’re pretty much fucked for quite a while.
Funny, I’m lower income and didn’t go to college but I totally get it.
Dumbasses.
Is there a V.I.P. entrance. We are V.I.P
Very Inbred Parasites, yes you are.
The East Hampton Snookis value people who value greed.
A — are we sure the Mercedes wasn’t solid gold?
B — “everybody who’s got the right to vote:” But we’re working on that!
If people are going to all of these $75,000 a plate fundraisers in the Hamptons this weekend, there’s some serious FEC violations afoot.
Hahahahahaha!
Clearly this woman’s whole world has been devastated by the Kenyansoshulistislamofascist imposter currently residing in the White House – that Range Rover is probably two years old. The White House being the house of the people, don’t you know. Her people, that is. At this point Romney deserves to lose if for no other reasons than his supporters’ mind numbing lack of self-awareness and his campaign staff’s complete lack of knowledge about how quickly his campaign is running off the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Fuck them. Because why? Because fuck them.
Gonna be a traffic jam of rusty Ford F-150 tumbrils one of these days…
Yeah, right. The rich cannot fail (all together now) they can only be failed.
Stock tip, for anyone with spare cash: Buy companies that own TV stations, the ad revenue is going to be enormous. I just hope the ads dont work.
Funny, I’m educated (in fact, I’ve been called over-educated)but also lower-income (much as current college graduates are and will be for awhile). And I’m pretty sure I get it. Though I’m sure what I get and what she gets, aren’t too similar.
How does anyone “educated” actually believe that Obama is a socialist? Do they watch Faux News, too?
Over Mr. Conklin’s objections, Ms. Simmons disclosed that a major executive from Miramax, the movie company, was on the 75-foot yacht, because, she said, there were no rooms left at the hotel.
I’m sure “the common person is getting it” that Charity begins on your yacht…
First Book of Icksleazyastics, 3:11-13
And the Shepard asked, was there no room at the inn?
And lo, the rentier repled, No but there’s a room on my yacht…
if you work for Miramax, bitch!
~ Harry R. Sohl
I’m sure Meg Whitman helped quite a few TV and Radio ad salespeople meet their quota in the year leading up to the 2010 election. Unfortunately for her the voters were tired of her by election day.
Too bad the stupid bitch in the Land Rover wasn’t worried if Romney was good for America.
Shorter woman in Range Rover: “I have to come up with a reason not to vote for Obama that isn’t ‘I got mine, screw you all.’”
And she just can’t accept that her cosmetologist is a better person than she is. But she’s not rich! Unpossible!
Why am I reminded of all those GOP stalwarts trying desperately to convince themselves that Sarah Palin was really a brilliant politician with a plan to save America?
Oh we fucking know how the system works to the tune of 100′s of billions of our tax dollars to assure your continued lifestyle choices, Leech.
You’re rich because of a fucking craps game, honey. A fully insured fucking craps game.
Congrats, you’ve inspired me to donate to the Obama campaign. Now take your Social Darwinism and shove straight up your overpaid, ignorant, useless for nothing but, ass.
oops, dropped the link, …nothing but whining, ass.
How could he NOT be? He’s white and wealthy!
Peter Arno had these people pegged 80 year ago…
To them “socialist” is a sophisticated way of saying “thief.” He wants to take their stuff, ergo he must be a “socialist.”
We don’t get it.
Huh.
Only thing she left out was a toll free so they could send me the info for a mere 14.99 taken from a credit card for the next 5o years.
GO BULLS!!!!
The rich really are different, and not in a good way. Time to break out the tumbrels and guillotines.
Times like these, I go over to Paul Fussell’s ‘Class’ for comfort. These folks ain’t got none.
But…but…that’s just supposed to be prolefeed!
Do these people really believe what they’re saying? They believe that? That’s even scarier than if they were just making shit up.
This is the most effective pro-Obama piece I have seen so far.
The Romney’s and these other parasites are the best gift that Obama could get.
They are their own worst enemies.
The British Aristocracy, despite all advantages, wealth, education and connections, were never known for their acumen.
Very few ever became members of the Royal Society, that is members of the Society of thinkers, mathematicians, and leading scientists.
I just think if you’re lower income — one, you’re not as educated
$10 says the bitch got her M.R.S. degree as an Ivy League “legacy” admission, perhaps after attending Dalton.
On another (sour) note – who guessed we’d be hearing from McAddled this summer?
~ Harry R. Sohl
What a strawperson argument. Rich people think that Obama is bad therefore anyone who is not rich must reach the opposite conclusion, that Romney is bad and Obama is good.
Paging, Maximilien Robespierre!
Dear Mrs. Conklin, pull my finger!
“Whatso you do for the richest of these, you also do for Me.”
I knew that being rich meant you’re more virtuous. Now it turns out you’re smarter as well! Is there no end to the good things that rich people are?
“We’ve got the message,” she added. “But my college kid, the baby sitters, the nails ladies — everybody who’s got the right to vote — they don’t understand what’s going on. I just think if you’re lower income — one, you’re not as educated, two, they don’t understand how it works, they don’t understand how the systems work, they don’t understand the impact.”
http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2011/5/11/admissions-fitzsimmons-legacy-legacies/
Given the number of legacy admissions and Bush’s intelligence ( he’s a legacy) one wonders both if any of the 1% were not legacy admits and about the quality of a legacy admit degree.
Also Mitt’s family are high up in the Mormon Church does Mitt’s Mormon University have legacy admits for the kids of high members? Certainly the son of the CEO of AMC would have some clout at any admit office.
Yeah, Whitman represents my best hope for the fall … pick her for Veep, Mitt!
Given Mitt’s command of facts being flexible one wonders if he has any command of the facts so far we have just assumed he lies but he could be a liar and stupid. That would explain his economic ideas.
Given how the 1% needed a bank bailout from the Government and not the other way around I don’t think they “get it”.
We now have proof thanks to the bank bailout that government can manage money better than the private sector.
The auto bailout Mitt and the 1% hated is a great example aside from bailing the automakers out O raised the MPG on cars something the private auto industry fought for decades.
Gas prices went up and for once they had High MPG cars to sell when gas prices went up. Contrast this with Bush’s actions when gas prices went up Didn’t he give a tax break for Hummers?
Troll harder or GTFO
I can hear those Hamptonites whining that the “President of the United States is President of all its citizens, not just the 99%.”
Geez – the 1% – who mostly ARE legacies from pre-school thru college – are as heavily propogandized by FAKE and Rush as their voting counterparts in the 99%. Phew. Interesting, but what a lot of shit-itude they display.
I doubt these entitled mongrels would even agree with Marie Antoinette that their Nails slave should get to eat cake. After all, said serf is tres imbécile.
That’s a valid point and it makes a great sound bite for any populist campaign. Like Edwards’ “Two Americas”.
It will be interesting to see if any campaign dares to utilize the 99 percent/one percent analogy.
Thanks to the Occupy Movement, the entire theme is radioactive to both uniparties. Obama must tread lightly when illustrating this theme (since he’s the guy ordering the Mayors whom order the police to crack the 99 percenters’ skulls).
We won’t see Captain Zero utter the words ninety-nine percent or one percent in that context. Not gonna happen.
.
Wonder what Ms. Simmons thinks Obama did with all the hotel rooms…
http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-500159_162-537649.html
A tax break for Hummers is what Bush a 1%er thought was a good idea when oil prices were high to get auto makers working.
Yeah Right no wonder the Auto Makers needed a bailout. And Remember Bush was the first MBA President.
The nitwit is from NJ – very declasse` for an acceptable Hamptonite, and 75 feet is a pretty sorry-ass yacht these days. Hilarious.
MBAs, esp from the Ivies, are all about teaching the 1% spawn how to rip off the 99%, frankly.
I began an MBA some years ago from a *lowly* state college, and I could see right away that it was all about “leveraging” this, that ‘n the other thing, which is basically the Bain Capital model of how to run businesses into the ground to the misery of the 99% (who lose their jobs) whilst enhancing the rentiers at the top.
That’s why, when conservatives brayed about W’s MBA, I just shuddered. Despite the fact that W most likely partied through his MBA and basically got “kicked upstairs,” I wasn’t thrilled with the idea of a ‘vard MBA as Pres. An MBA just teaches people how to rob from the less wealthy to enhance themselves. ptoui!
I remember well.
Knowing that all those criminal rich were riding around in those $50,000 – $100,000 SUVs completely deducted from their taxes was unbearable.
I honestly don’t see what their beef is. The Kenyan Usurper has hurt them not one itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny bit. Not one of his policies can be called “socialist” without seriously abusing the language. Not a single one of his policies has impacted the huge wealth of these entitled buffoons. Quite the contrary. Meanwhile we “nail-ladies” and other mendicants have been lied to and screwed left right and center every time Obama needs to please “The Center.” I don’t see how we could be screwed worse under Mittens. And that is not an endorsement of Romney, it is a condemnation of the utter cravenness and soullessness of Obama and his Democratic Party, who, rather than delivering us Change We Can Believe In, have done Bush II proud.
Cool. That “18″ house number over the door looks amazingly like a “1%.” I love the quantum universe where you can move forwards and backwards in time!
Well (and needed to be) said!
HuffPo’s headline says Obama got out-fundraised again. The facts may not matter at all if the 1% are able to buy the election.
Yo, T- somebody’s left the FDL escape hatch unlocked…again!
Their beef is that Obama hurt their feelings that one time he used the word “fatcats” a couple of years ago. They’re very sensitive ya know.
Apparently Michael Zambrelli is in Advertising and Marketing. Very important work.
What a strawperson argument. Rich people think that Obama is bad therefore anyone who is not rich must reach the opposite conclusion, that Romney is bad and Obama is good.
Christ, you’re stupid. Really. Just as stupid as the woman quoted in the piece.
Doc, thanks for your judgment on Presidential weevil sizes.
If not for other stories of this Mittadveture, I’d've thought TBogg and the rest of us had been p3wned, or whatever it’s being called these days.
That picture gets me every time. I’m not kidding when I say if I was in the crowd and I had a rock, I’d throw it.
Damn, that’s good.
Does he really want to run with that metaphor? Okay, fine. Let’s take that metaphor and run to the freaking hills with it. Of course both sides of this issue will want to believe they’re the most important cog in the machine, so if we take the “job creators” to be the engine of the economy, then we the 99%, who give ourselves bodily to the engine to be burnt to ash to keep the damn thing running, are the fuel.
Actually, I like this metaphor. No, I love it. My thanks to the parasite in Advertising and Marketing for coming up with it.
Is Mitt registered to vote in LaJolla? The POTUS and VP can’t be from the same state.
But then, nothing in the Constitution prevents two ex-Bain consultants from filling those roles. Which maks me think the constitution needs some updating.
“The nitwit is from NJ – very declasse` for an acceptable Hamptonite, and 75 feet is a pretty sorry-ass yacht these days.”
It’s just the support yacht. You know, the way that the Queen has that little tender that once took her out to the _Brittania_
I don’t see how we could be screwed worse under Mittens.
You really haven’t being paying attention to Congress at all have you? Haven’t tracked the hundreds of millions of dollars being spent to maintain the ‘status quo”? Listened, at all, to the Republicans’ ideals for a “more perfect Union”?
A statement like, “I don’t see how we could be screwed worse under Mittens”, makes you look really ignorant, not ‘edgy’.
But you’re a hip cat so I totally dig your disappointment in the system.
Good point. But it does raise a genuinely interesting question: where IS Mitt registered? It seems unclear. He voted in Mass in Jan 2010, on a dubious technicality since his “address” actually belonged to one of his sons, and in 2009 the Romneys described their NH estate as their primary residence, but have said they were moving to California. Answers.com has a question up but no answer. Could he be registered in the Caymans? Heavens, no, he’s running for President for Pete’s sake. (Some other Pete, to be sure.) But why wouldn’t he register somewhere where he had a prayer of winning?
Because ballots don’t have pictures of Presidents on them, so they’re not personally important to him. One thing’s for certain, he hasn’t considered the optics of his choice of residence.
Do you honestly believe that Bloomberg takes marching orders from O’bama?
Jeez, I’ve got this nice bridge I’d like to sell you.
When you can buy all the votes and access you want you don’t need to vote…actually casting a ballot is for the little people
Folks like you said the same shit about Gore when compared to Bush II.
I sure hope we don’t find out how much worse it can really be like we did in 2000.
Perhaps you should seek treatment for this combination of Stockholm Syndrome and battered spouse syndrome that so many Democrats seem to be developing case of?
It turns out that the Democrats are much more effective in implementing the Republican agenda than the Republicans are because people like you play defense for them every time an election comes around. It seems that big ticket areas of policy devolve for the worse faster when the Democrats are in power than when the Republicans are in control.
There are as many super rich supporting the Democrats as the Republicans, difference being that the Democrich support same sex marriage which makes it okay when they rig the game for the benefit of the 1%.
I’m sorry–was there a cogent argument here?
The data speak for themselves. When the Republicans get elected, they attack the Democrats.
When the Democrats get elected, they attack the Democrat base.
The Democrats have nothing going for them but screaming “The Republicans!, The Republicans!” This must stop.
If the Democrats could not make a go of it with 60 Senators and +60 in the House, then addressing the show stopper problems facing average Americans, climate change, retirement and health security, is simply not going to ever happen with the Democrats before those problems overwhelm us and cut off most options.
The Republicans are our opponents, the Democrats are worse than our opponents–they are traitors.
marcos is a Ron Paul licker judging from his FDL comment history….
I’d vote for Ron Paul over Obama just to start to end the slaughter in the global south and SW Asian oil patch, but I’m no Liberatarian.
I’m sick and tired of watching Democrats making apologies for leaving the US worse off then they found it, not even trying to live up to the ideals they espouse.
We cannot get a shot at corporate power so long as the Democrats and their apologists carry on like this every four years: either you support the ongoing march towards serfdom and the evaporation of the middle class or you are a Republican, Libertarian or whatever shibboleth you all throw up.
The Democrats let in Alito because they had lost the will to fight, and that single action practically ended democracy in the US. The fact that Obama is even facing a contest against Romney confirms that Obama’s support is eroding because Obama is governing against the interests of the base that elected him, the base that stayed home in 2010 and will probably stay home this year.
The Democrats are facing the consequences of significant unforced errors at best and political sabotage (Larry Summers, Rahm Emmanuel) at worst, and their propaganda response is this.
The Democrats deserve to lose and Americans deserve to be rid of the Democratic Party.
Hi!
Can you post a link to your blog please?
Do you mean my FDL “Blog?” Not much of one there, I gave up on this all when Obama sold out health reform to the insurers and pharmas. Similarly I gave up on Rachel Maddow 3 years ago when she ended up doing nothing but shrieking “The Republicans, The Republicans!” ad nauseum.
This just happened to cross my facebook feed this morning and it needs to be called out as counterproductive enabling that it truly is.
Nah, for voting and tax purposes his address is a house in Belmont, MA that he bought with pocket change, because “Tagg’s basement” looked bad.
“…I just think if you’re lower income — one, you’re not as educated, two, they don’t understand how it works, they don’t understand how the systems work, they don’t understand the impact.”
Apparently Ms. Schwartz (?) is unaware that Ph.D.s are now the fastest growing sector of those living below the poverty level in this country.
What Republicans? What Democrats? Who is this “they” of which you speak! Marcos, there’s a logical fallacy known as “false generalization.” While you’re looking it up, you might also want to consider the possibility that you aren’t the most informed poster on this site; and that most of us are here for the amusement, or because our job sucks–but we need the money, or because bitching is cheaper than therapy, or some combination of the preceding. You’re also “harshing my buzz” because I’ve heard FOX junkies who made more sense than you do after they consumed a six-pack of Bud.
I see you’re one of those above-it-all blasé dormroom philosophers who find the world too jejeune as well as falling way too short of their standards. We’ll let you get back to writing your 900 page manifestos in tiny cramped scribble. Onward, komrade! History awaits….
The best way to build a viable electoral coalition is to vote anyone who does not buy into the program 100% off the island.
1. I am a libertarian.
2. I am a Republican
3. I am not smart.
4. I am a blasé dormrrom philosopher.
5. My blog deviates from the Party Line.
Truth be told, when I was unemployed last fall I was active with Occupy San Francisco. I’ll be damned if I’m going to vote for the guy who ordered a coordinated violent crushing of legal popular assembly and who violently and illegally busts up villages with deadly violence.
Wow, Ed Lee did all of that?!
I’m going with #3 on your list.
Can you point to the time when there were actually 60 Democratic Senators Seated (I’ll give you a pass on the Blue Dogs)? I’ll give you a little help here, it took about 9 months for Frankin to actually take his seat due to the re-count. By the time he was seated Kennedy was on his deathbed and Byrd wasn’t much better off
If you were actually at Occupy San Francisco I’m sure you noticed that the patches on the Officers doing the beating either said San Francisco Police or San Francisco Sheriff. Their orders don’t originate in Washington DC.
Do you really want to buy into a viable electoral coalition? Well guess what you have to compromise to build a coalition. And compromise doesn’t mean you will graciously allow everybody else to agree with you. Nor does it mean that we have to ignore when you talk out of your ass.
So far your assertions have been fact free and they generally mimic the Ron Paul trolls who drop-in occasionally. If you want to be taken seriously quit writing as if you are a petulant 7 year old.
Yep, Ed Lee is part of the Nancy Pelosi and Willie Brown corrupt extraction regime, so long as they support same sex marriage, it is tea party economics all the way with a few crumbs to the nonprofits and unions for cover.
Well then, by all means, don’t vote for him.
But seeing how your comment is wildly off topic, and, well, completely irrelevant, please feel free to spout off on a thread nobody’s gonna read.
Have a nice day.
Great, I’ll stipulate to your assertion for the purposes of this discussion: If the Democrats could not make a go of it with 59 Senators and +60 in the House, then addressing the show stopper problems facing average Americans, climate change, retirement and health security, is simply not going to ever happen with the Democrats before those problems overwhelm us and cut off most options.
There was homeland security coordination of the crackdown on Occupy, that is why it played out the same way across disparate jurisdictions:
http://www.counterpunch.org/2012/03/23/evidence-homeland-security-coordinated-occupy-crackdown/
There really are not enough Swedish Meatballs on the planet to satisfy those of you suffering from the Stockholm Syndrome.
Compromise only comes when one plays to win, plays one’s hand to the hilt, AND THEN compromises equitably. This notion of adopting your opponent’s position a priori and then compromising down from that is not compromise, it is capitulation. That is why the ACA enjoys a stunning 35% level of public support. You were sold a wet dog and you’re luvin’ the smell.
As it stands, when the Republicans win, they attack the Democrats. When the Democrats win, they attack the Democrat base as you are doing right here.
I’ve worked in coalitions that have won more than half of the local elections we’ve contested, often against Nancy Pelosi’s conservative candidates. I know a thing or two about building majority coalitions from experience. I serve on local policy bodies and am able to build majority coalitions to challenge conservative power, such as calling Ed Lee on milking our transit system dry by diverting resources from the buses to his political base.
This is not rocket science, especially given the circumstances in which we find ourselves, but the Democrats don’t seem to have any sort of political conception of or desire to, probably the latter, do what it takes to implement the policies they claim to espouse. Obama took an historical opportunity to turn the tide and all he did was bring on another tsunami, our circumstances deteriorated worse in the past 3.5 years than in the previous 8.
As such it is an intentional game of keep-away, and you’re enabling it although your assertion of politics by cooties does not get you very far.
– climate change
– mountaintop removal
– deep water drilling
– more nuclear
– TBTF lives on
– No DISCLOSE act
– No ENDA, housing protections
– No debt relief
– more drones
– more guantanamo
– military tribunals not civilian trials
– tax increase on middle class via individual mandate
– no negotiations with pharma for less expensive meds
– no public option
– medicare cuts in ACA
– social security in the crosshairs
– phone spying
– tolerating bankster fraud while enforcing illegal camping laws to the letter.
Why vote Democrat if all we’re going to get are Republican policies? This car turns only to the right no matter how we vote. The only options are speed and sharpness of the turn. It seems we turn sharper and faster to the right under the Democrats than the Republicans.
Don’t you have a zero-traffic blog to maintain?
Uh, no, I’ve got software to write today.
I thought that FDL was opposed to the veal pen?
Now all we’ve got going on here is foie gras.
Really, who have you gotten elected?
Who coordinates your talking points for you. The “Stockholm Sydrome” crack isn’t original and wasn’t effective the first dozen times it was used.
Taking a strong left stand really helped get Kucinich through the primaries didn’t it. Ask Alan Grayson how safe it is to advocate effectively for an “extreme left” position.
If the nation as a whole isn’t on board it doesn’t make sense to take an extreme position. It helps to make the opposition’s propaganda points for them. The biggest problem is that the vast majority of the electorate doesn’t understand that the debate has been shifting so far to the right for so long.
That is the political reality, and you can’t ignore it.
Obama’s tactics have done more to wake-up the center to how bad they are being screwed than all of the rants from the “professional left” for the last 30 years. He has made it obvious that the Right doesn’t give a shit about the country by being so accommodating and forcing them to say no to positions they have historically supported. And despite the intransigence on the Right he still has gotten some good stuff done.
If he had taken an extreme position it would have been much easier for the majority of the electorate to write Obama off as a Kenyan Socialist. Getting the center on board makes much more sense because there are more of them than there are of you. Shifting millions of people in the center one inch to left is more effective than trying to please a few thousand ideological purists with futile gestures. Especially when you consider that anything that can realistically get passed will never be good enough for the likes of you anyway.
It took us 30-40 years to get to this point. It will take many years to slow the head-long rush to the right and get us headed back toward the left.
I’ve helped elect several supervisors and school board members over the past decade or so, as well as helped pass several ballot measures here in San Francisco, all progressive/liberal and all against Pelosi and Feinstein’s endorsements.
Obama ran on a liberal platform that won him the 2008 election. He promptly swapped his electoral coalition for a completely different governing coalition and screwed his base. His base responded in kind in 2010 by screwing the Democrats costing them the House.
If you want to see the same outcome in 2012 that you saw in 2010, then by all means keep on enabling the same. That is the kind of polling that counts. Folks are insecure over their futures for good reasons, either Democrats offer hope via policies or Democrat supporters will become disillusioned and abandon the party come election day. That is bad for us, but is delightful for the plutocrats who run the Democrat Party, heads they win, tails we lose and corporate fascism and serfdom are our future.
There is nothing far left, nothing professional left about the basic liberal platforms that Obama ran on. He would not have been elected had he run on a far left platform. Yet he abandoned most all of it almost immediately. Didn’t he run on amending NAFTA to incorporate labor and enviro concerns, stuff that enjoys broad popular support?
Obama’s tactics have not arrested the slide, to the contrary they have exacerbated the slide.
The Stockholm syndrome is exemplified by statements like:
This is called negotiating with terrorists, appealing to the Fox Newsians who will never, ever support a Democrat.
When the Republicans win, they attack the Democrats. When the Democrats win, they attack the Democrat base. If we’re going to lose big anyway, let’s at least make the traitors in the Democrat Party pay with loss of power.
That’s FDL. Over here, we’re not big on bloviating gasbags.
Ah. The tell…
…and hitting peak troll.
We’re done here.
Fascinating. Winnowing down that base of support to the bare nub of true believers. This is suicidal behavior.
To recap:
1. I am a libertarian.
2. I am a Republican
3. I am not smart.
4. I am a blasé dormrrom philosopher.
5. My blog deviates from the Party Line.
and now:
6. I use the term “Democrat” to describe one side of the duopoly coin where the plutocrats who are better than the Republicans because they support same sex marriage habituate themselves politically in order to make sure that there is nothing democratic about American federal politics.
“Democrat” is a party. “Democratic” is an adjective that carries with it political semantics of self-determination. Americans voted liberal populist in 2008 and all we got was Bush III. Ain’t nothing democratic about that.
You all know that the Democrats sent you all down a blind alley, hoodwinked you, yet you still defend them after they abuse you so.
Keep on drinking that Kool-Aid because it is going to count as a meal at the rate that the banksters are bankrupting the US with the aid of the Democrabs and Republicraps alike.
It’s called the Democratic Party and you’re full of shit. Pontificating shit, but shit nonetheless.
Words have semantics, they are not fungible like political principles are for the Democrats. I’d presume that like the Queen of Hearts in “Through the Looking Glass,” words mean precisely what you intend them to mean, nothing more, nothing less.
Meanwhile, the death spree continues at our hands in the global south, the environmental and finance economics cans are being kicked down the road, health insurers and big pharma are being subsidized by tax increases on the middle class, and you all are still apologizing for those who are kicking you in the gonads.
It is no wonder that Americans are abandoning the Democrab Party in droves.
…and a new internet meme is created.
How clever of you! How many people will continue to be killed by drones or held without charge or trial under executive suspicion if they’re not on a kill list just so that Americans can live in first world comfort, that some American women might have access to reproductive choice in some instances not prescribed by Obama’s Stupak amendment, that some LGBT might be able to get married if they’re not fired or evicted?
Yeah, the rights of Americans to our continued levels of comfort and convenience are paramount, predicated on death by drone and enabled by the veal pen.
You’re boring.
But on a happier note, should you attempt to hijack anymore comment threads, your comments will be drone killed to spamland.
No he didn’t, if you believed that then you were projecting what you wished him to be. Didn’t you ever pay attention to his record in the Senate?
Since I am a helpful kind of guy let me give you some advice, next time attack what I said, not what you wish I had said. I didn’t say anything about chasing votes on the far right. I spoke about winning the middle, the part of the political spectrum where most of the electorate lives.
Now if you believe that the middle are all “terrorists” then you have a much bigger problem. In that case all I can suggest is counseling and psycho-active drugs.
As noted previously, the President does not control issues related to the States’ police powers. As for busting up villages with deadly violence, a war doesn’t stop just because we get a new leader. Collin Powell noted in the Bush II administration before the U.S. started this fiasco: “You break it, you bought it.” While reasonable minds may differ as to the best way to handle a situation with ever-escalating violence against our troops, I think you’ll find the “turn the other cheek” approach is not terribly popular with military experts.
You seem willing to throw your lot in with people who will pay $25,000 apiece for rubber chicken, a mint cupcake, and an open bar at a Republican fundraiser, where the overwhelming opinion of those in attendance is that people just like you are too stupid to understand how government works. What horrifies me, is that you’re proving they may just be right.
I noticed that you were kind of vague about your electoral successes. If you advice that Obama should race to the left were a winning strategy then one would think that you would have won most of the elections you worked on, not just “more than half”. Especially if you live in San Francisco.
I was going to go with “tedious and boring” but why overstate the obvious….
Here we go with the Talking Point Phase Shift. He’s not able to keep up on the original topic so he is off chasing different Hare.
I’ll take your word for that you are not a Libertarian Troll, but damn, you sure do an excellent job mimicing one!
Obama ran on a nominally mainstream “liberal” platform, not any sort of leftist dream, but he did not run as how he governed: Bush III.
Whenever he thought that the Republicans were going to resist his move, he simply coopted their positions and tried to outflank them from the right just so that he could score a point.
How many times over the past 3.5 years did you hear him in that fake southern accent say “Whah are the Republicans opposing mah playun, when mah playun is a Republican playun?” That reminds me of how Phil Gramm used to speak A&M economics department speak unless he was speaking in public when he spoke like a true College Stationary.
What if we don’t want the Republican playun?
This argument of how we must vote Democrat because of how bad Republicans are no longer carries water. The fact that the election is even close compared to a doofus like Romney speaks volumes to the political capital Obama has squandered by catering to the Republicans.
The Democrabs should have learned a lesson in 2010. But as Obama is doing with Bush’s economic policies, the two parties are all about doubling down on stupid. Because when the Republicans win, the Democrats, at least the professional ones and their constellation of labor and nonprofit professionals, those formerly known as the veal pen around these parts, don’t lose.
You’ve not worked around law enforcement policy in your locality have you? You’re not familiar with the federalization of law enforcement funding, the fusion centers or other ways that what was local law is now increasingly federalized. If localities don’t play ball with the feds, they lose their goodies.
They are not MY electoral successes. They are the successes of many people who work together to put together campaigns so that San Franciscans might have a shot of setting our own policies instead of submitting to corporate dominance.
The fact is that going out and appealing to your neighbors and folks across town is humbling and teaches one how to reconcile one’s own political sentiments with that which garners majority popular support.
The left is dead. Populism is what carries elections, speaking to people’s hopes and aspirations while turning them against the corporations that are sucking this country dry. The Republicans are good at that. The Democrats try to argue issues when the political currency is based on emotions, aspirations and hope. Obama got that in 2008 but used it to get into office and do the same policies, often worse, than Bush II.
And I love it how you all jump to so many conclusions from the mere use of the word “Democrat.” It just shows simple minded so many Democrat partisans are.
So many Democrats would cheer wildly if Obama doubled the number of deportations from what Bush deported of undocumented people because it is a Democrat rather than a Republican enacting that policy.
Well from your own reported success rate, you and your buddies aren’t very good at it. You can’t even rise above the statistical noise level.
And you expect the rest of us to follow your lead?
I know. It’s like how some people can get the idea that someone is a racist if they use the word ‘nigger’.
Words have semantics, y’know…
