Snooty Horse Princess Ann Romney does not like it when You People expect things of Her Family.
Stop it, You People:
Anne Romney, the wife of GOP hopeful Mitt Romney, on Thursday insisted that she and her husband would not be giving voters any more information about their tax returns because they had “given all you people need to know.”
“You know, you should really look at where Mitt has led his life, and where he’s been financially,” Ann Romney told ABC’s Robin Roberts. “He’s a very generous person. We give 10 percent of our income to our church every year. Do you think that is the kind of person who is trying to hide things, or do things? No. He is so good about it. Then, when he was governor of Massachusetts, didn’t take a salary for four years.”
“We’ve given all you people need to know and understand about our financial situation and how we live our life,” the candidate’s wife added.
Look… the Romneys give and give and give and it is never enough for You People. Sure the Romneys may hide massive amounts of cash in offshore tax havens but that doesn’t mean that they don’t pay the absolute minimum in taxes … and not a dollar more:
In the face of such arguments, Romney’s defense is that he never broke the rules: if there is a problem, it is in the laws, not in his behavior. “I pay all the taxes that are legally required, not a dollar more,” he said.
…and that is all You People deserve.
Now shut up and vote for Mitt, You People.

But . . . I want a pony, too.
When I read the term “you people” in her interview, I just knew you would be on it. You failed to disappoint me.
Its awesome when the Mittens campaign brings out their Secret Weapon to shoot Mitt in the foot.
OMG. She said “you people.” How long has this pair been running for president and they don’t know, and apparently can’t be taught how to do it?
I don’t usually say Fuck You to people, but I already did a one-finger salute to another car driver this morning, so, I might as well keep it up.
Ann, people like you, and yes, that’s almost You People, make me very very sad.
You just know she can’t wait to buy All New Furniture and stuff. I’d say
dishes, but that’s such a low class term.
Quite the worldview the Romneys have. I guess it really is true that they see the world as themselves and the help.
“England expects that every man will do his duty.”
America expects everybody to do the minimum possible amount their lawyers and accountants can contrive. More, if you’re not rich.
Their contempt for us ” little people” is noted. The Romney’s would like to believe that the Corporatist Presidental contest is best run like one of the other horse and pony shows they love being in. They get to set the rules of course and are aghast when their inferiors expect them to play by someone else’s.
I guess if Mittens becomes president, Ann will expect all visitors to the White House to use the servant’s entrance.
If Mittens says “you people” during the debate, it could hurt his chances.
Did he tithe on his total off and on shore income or just the taxable income . What does God say about tithing, gross or net income? I think he may have fudged his tithe and is more worried about the church elders rather than the voters finding out the truth.
Inquiring minds haven’t found that part of the bible.
Ann, this isn’t about your taxes. This is about the rules that are created that allow your husband to build $100 million IRA.
This is about drawing $100,000 per year for doing apparently nothing then deciding to retire, retroactively 14 years later.
Fox news and some Republicans have made this about your tax returns. Talk to them.
Tithing isn’t exactly the same as giving money to the poor, or supporting organizations that Help people.
What a bunch of crap.
If the Romneys become president, there’s going to be hell to pay. There’s going to be outrage, and I sorry, but it’s not going to be worth what the 3rd partiers thing they are going to get out of it.
Sort of like what the technicians at Chernobyl thought immediately when they realized that they had taken it too far.
It’s funny. I’ve only heard maybe five or six public comments by this woman. But EVERY SINGLE time she comes off as a nasty, elitist… um, B-word. She’s not going to wear well with the public.
She’s already wearing well. Have you seen the latest polls? I think Americans want a Queen B.
Campaign rhetoric is SOOO telling! Not. Ann Romney probably meant “the media” when she said “you people.”
As Charlie Pierce has observed, imagine the thermonuclear outrage among the RWNJs if Michelle Obama said this.
“Hell hath not fury like a woman scorned.”
You can qupote me on that.
Indeed…..8.2 on the Richter Scale for sure.
I just love presidential campaigns.
Where you been????
This is definately a one-finger salute kinda moment. This ain;t gonna play well down on the farm. BUT, it will be a marvedlous moment in the TV mini-series.
I LOVE that.
Can I use it???
That’s totally not true…….
A simple curtsey will be adequate.
I was trapped in my zucchini garden for a while.
Want one the size of a bat?
Are we quite sure that this isn’t a quote from Madame Range Rover?
Ten percent to his weirdo church. How much of that actually goes to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick and imprisoned? As far as I can tell from the Mormon church’s own P.R., Mormons are all successful, prosperous people who handle all their own problems just like
Joe SmithJohn Galt wanted them to, so they don’t need any of that feeding/clothing/visiting stuff… so what is that money being spent on?(Actually, I don’t really want to know the answer to my own question here.)
For the record. The Mormons don’t GIVE to the church. The Mormon Church TAKES from you. And that’s one of the reasons they don;t want anybody to see their tax returns. 10% of exactly WHAT Mrs. Romney.
Ann Romney:
“I believe it’s Mitt’s time. I believe the country needs the kind of leadership he’s going to offer . . . So I think it’s our turn now.”
At least she’s being consistent. No flip-flopping like the Willard.
I can’t wait for the “clarification” from the Romney camp.
Are we having fun yet????
Agreed. Don’t you just LOVE it.
Ah, yes, I remember when your church then used some of that money to deny civil rights to same-sex couples. Then helped kick out Scout volunteers for being gay. F–k you for such generous charity.
And, on consideration, who the hell are these ‘Romneys’? Third class, trade, nouveau-riches ill-educated parvenus? Utah, for the love of Mike? Their idea of society involves -circus horses-? These people aren’t even authentically middle class, much less nobility of any kind. Gaaah!
Saw a clip last night of a young Romney saying he made a promise to himself at age 19: if he ever saw a man with a hand out, begging for help, he would give him money. He further stated that he has kept that pledge. My question: how many ‘beggars’ does one see in a gated community, from the back seat of a limousine, within the luxurious confines of a yacht or jet, or at a high-dollar fundraiser???
Thanks for the offer. But my wife has been working in the “community garden” lately. I got more zucchinoi, cucumbers, and squash than I could eat in 20 years. I do enjoy the cantalope though.
Which certainly explains his reasonable support of the Paul Ryan ‘budget’.
Seriously, it’s hard to believe this jackass is George Romney’s son. His daddy was a fine, honest person.
OTOH, Memo to Ann: You keep it up girl. Don’t let the unwashed masses break you down.
Somehow I don’t think the bloated egos masquerading as the media are going to be very happy about being dismissed as “you people.”
I may be going out on a limb here but……I say, dye her hair blonde and get Sean Young to play Ann in the TV Movie.
Well????????
Willard’s wife is just repeating what Willard says around the dinner table.
The Willard’s seems to have a a real problem with what ever other American takes for granted. Things like serving their country and paying their fair share of taxes.
Here the Willard’s give more to their church than they pay in taxes as well as use church service as a draft dodge. Just where do their true loyalties lie versus god(Joe Smith) and country.
It is beyond the pale that Willard wants to run a country that he has a demonstrated history of minimizing contributions to that country.
The nation will warm to Ann when she tells them she’ll let the WH borrow her personal china/silver for special occasions, so they don’t have to use that old stuff in the “dish room.”
I gave $5 to the homeless guy in the left turn lane this morning.
Perhapos I should form an “exploratory committee”.
I’d love to tie her up and take a good flogger to her. With knots tied in the ends.
while living in tony Woodside (Steve Jobs,Bechtels, & private dressage facilities), I watched ‘those people’ attempt to use servants quarters to satisfy low income housing reqs.
I kid you not.
This is cute but hopefully for the obama campaign people, they can keep the wives out of the campaign rhetoric.
PS – I detest obama.
She was on a television show, I presume to take her husband’s case directly to the American people.
She was supposed to be talking directly to the American people not the press.
This remark was left in context (unlike what her husband’s campaign has done with the Obama quotes they have used) and it stinks. Also, it is in character with other elitist comments she and Willard have made in public. This isn’t the first time she has been afflicted with foot in mouth disease and with her track record I am not inclined to give her a let slide on this remark.
It will be interesting to she how she handles the controversy. That will be a good indicator of her true feelings. She better handle it better than she did the “Working Mom” kerfuffle.
I was never big on parlor games.
Onward and upward for the Cherry-Pick Mitt Romney Movement! Liberation is at hand!
Thank you, that was also my suspicion. I don’t think he gives a “darn” what we think, I believe he would be more worried that the church caught him “shorting” the baby jesus. They take their tithes deadly serious in the christian crowd. You can cheat, steal, or kick the dog, as long as they get your 10%
Cherry picked? The comment was left in context.
Apparently “Cherry Picked” doesn’t mean what you think it means.
Mormons. There is considerable disagreement about whether Mormons are Christians.
Super Hit, Romney’s Seamus of dressage, isn’t horsing around…
‘ere… the ringbone is connected to the funny bone..
Ann Romney’s High Horse
And who is it, precisely, that has beneffited most and least from Obama’s Presidency? Hint, it sure isn’t the middle class families clinging desperately to lives disdained upon by Obama!
No. But they’re great business operators and multi-level marketers.
“disdained upon”?
Better trolls please.
Yo, Ann, ya keep them infermajn and we keep tha presidensy.
And the Middle Class has only been getting screwed over since 2009?
1) Ironically, Mittens could’ve won today’s news cycle for the first time in quite awhile. While most economists look at the jobs report as seasonally skewed, it’s still positive for the puggies, along with taking attention off the Bain/tax thing-y. Likewise the new poll that puts Mitty a point above Obama (though the aggregate still shows Obama continuing his consistent lead). But the “decent man’s” wife opened her stupid yap and reminded everyone exactly what she and Willard really are.
2) Fuck you An-romnette and the (dancing) horse you rode in on!
Mormons operate their own food canneries to stock up against big emergencies; all Mormon families are expected to maintain one-year food supplies in their homes. I wonder if there are long-term emergency shelters for the likes of the Romneys and other rich and powerful Mormons. That 10% might just be a little self-serving.
So the obama/dem campaign slogan should be “we are no worse than repubs.”
I’ve heard the refrain that the lesser of two evils is still evil. But one that might be more appropriate is Obama is the slower of two evils. (Slower might indicate that the have-nots would have time for countermeasures–you know, like tar and pitchforks?) Still not sure I can put the ‘x’ in the box beside Obama–but KNOW I cannot but it there for Romney. What’s a not-yet-disenfranchised voter to do??
I seem to recall Ross Perot getting a lot of heat over using the “you people” formulation during one of his campaigns.
Floored. Marie Antoinette reincarnated.
You’re right: vote for Jill Stein or Rocky Anderson. That should prove to be very effective.
Actually no, they should be running against the do nothing Congress, like Truman did.
And I’m sure they could work-up a parallel campaign against allowing Romney to appoint the next two Supreme Court Justices; especially since Romney is being advised in these matters by Robert Bork.
Using off-shore accounts to minimize tax liability while the country is at war is unpatriotic!
Living in Paris, France, while other young men your age were fighting and dying in a war in Vietnam is unpatriotic!
Saying you will attack another muslim, if elected, while you have five sons who have not bothered to participate in a current decade long war in unpatriotic!
Nixon didn’t reveal his tax records. George Romney (Nixon’s Republican primary opponent and father of dimMitt) released his past taxes.
After the election, the country found out that Nixon cheated on four years of taxes.
The seed money for Bain Capital came from the elite in El Salvador. Who were these investors and how did they get their wealth. Any wealth in (Reagan’s) El Salvador in the 1980′s was blood money.
Please, please, PLEASE continue on with the tax returns. It is going nowhere.
Meantime, everyone else can concentrate on the economy.
Marvelous how Obama has tons of time to hob nob at high priced fundraisers with the elite, but, somehow, has “too much on his plate,” to meet with his Jobs Council.
THAT tells you everything you need to know.
I am more inclined to agree with Glen Ford at Black Agenda Report. He says Obama is the more effective evil. The forces on the liberal/progressive side who would normally oppose things like killing Americans without due process, have been sedated. With bo in office their opposition has been neutralized. BO’s ability to do the evil deeds a repub would do is far more effective.
It would be more effective in the long run. There are only 2 ways to influence the 2 major parties. MONEY and the vote. Most here don’t wield that kind of financial influence. Our vote is what we have. If at the end of the day we end up voting for either evil parties, they have “0″ incentive to change the way they operate.
10% tithing buys a lot of anti-gay teevee buying.
Wanna bet Mitt and Ann spent a lot of time at Versailles… and none at La Conciergerie. Mitt, Ann…Marie, Antoinette. Fits.
The problem you run into is you had 2 years of complete dem dominance in the house, senate, and white house. All they can show for the 2 year dominance is a mandated health insurance plan that most americans don’t like. The economy was still tanking during that period.
The key word was “if” I ever.
Even if a poor homeless person were standing in front of them they wouldn’t see it.
Anyone not rich is invisible.
Go to one of these hotels sometime when they are holding a function for these elite.
You will know exactly what I’m talking about.
Yes, they’re so generous… leaving aside whether or not contributions to your church should even be considered charitable donations – Momos are expected to tithe 10% so at least you can say Mitt & Anne, the perfectly matched assholes, are at least consistent; they tithe 10% and not one dollar more.
If I were say 12 years old, that would make sense but the fact of the matter is that there are only two parties capable of winning a national election: the Democratic and Republican parties.
When the Peace & Freedom or Green or Hemp/Mumia parties start winning elections at the local level in something more meaningful than Chairman of Ad Hoc Committee on Recycling and manage to move up the ranks, then we’ll talk. I’ve been hearing this same old shit about third parties since the seventies. They have no money and their base would rather spend more time making sure that the flyers are printed on recycled paper with cruelty free ink than in actually winning an election.
As for Democratic dominance, let me know when a Nebraskan or West Virginia Democratic Senator votes like a California or New York Democrat.
I don’t think enough American people are paying close attention to her. I haven’t seen a poll on her. Give it time.
Imagine the pantry and fish tanks required to keep a year’s supply of foie gras, lobster, beluga and truffles on hand. You people don’t understand the sacrifices we make.
It’s not a tithe; it’s a down payment on MittAnn’s eventual retirement home.
On the planet Kolob.*

Hell they need a nuclear plant to run the generators they need to run to keep all that food edible for a year. ha ha h a
Flicking the wrist. The magic wand is not working because Obama is not flicking his wrist correctly.
Why is Obama refusing to learn how to flick his wrist?
You failed to disappoint me.
A stunningly elegant example of the indirect double negative — and accurate too. Congratulations!
Wait, she said “you people” to Robin Roberts?
Jeezuz H. Cristo.
You are not the first Green who tried to pass off that canard at this site. You folks need to get together and compare notes on what Talking Points work and what Talking Points don’t work. How long are you going to wait before you compare us all to battered spouses?
Why don’t you do a little research for yourself, because you probably won’t believe me if I told you. The Dem Controlled House did yeoman’s work from 2009-2011, but unfortunately it all died in the Senate.
Here’s your homework assignment:
Tell me how long the Dem’s had a filibuster proof majority in the Senate?
Hint #1: Check into the Senatorial recount in Minn.
Hint #2: When did Senators Kennedy and Byrd become too sick to sit in the Senate.
Hob nobbing. Yeah, I’m sure that is all the pres has got to do. Better to watch your dancing pony?
http://my.firedoglake.com/cassiodorus/2012/07/17/the-cherry-pick-mitt-romney-movement-marches-onward/
Do you think they should have changed the filibuster rule?
I remember reading that it can only be down at the start of a congress and it takes a year to go into effect.
If I were say 12 years old, that would make sense but the fact of the matter is that there are only two parties capable of winning a national election: the Democratic and Republican parties.
Well, in my view we have to leave a legacy for the next generation that offers a better nation than the one we currently have. Prior generations did the same for us. We should take to heart the MLK speech about being on the mountain top.
As for Democratic dominance, let me know when a Nebraskan or West Virginia Democratic Senator votes like a California or New York Democrat.
Obama is the head of the party, no? As a new president, he had a mandate and popular support his first several months in office, no? He has the bully pulpit, no?
He had no problem using his power to do what he wanted on health insurance, helping illegal immigrants, etc.
The problem is in this graph:
http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS12300000
Sure, the line’s going down is entirely on Bush Junior, but do you see it going up? I don’t.
Democrats only pretend they are in the same party. Once every four years they schedule a party. Then they go back to cussing each other.
Or the have-nots can be convinced that Obama is the solution to their problems, which makes Obama the faster evil?
Is the Cherry-Pick Mitt Romney movement going to solve our global warming problem?
http://youtu.be/A7ktYbVwr90
That’s nice. Your strategy has brought America and the world to this point. Feel successful yet?
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/06/27/1103441/–We-re-doomed
I think it is even more than that. People seem to think we coulda and shoulda got a health care plan with a public option on reconciliation. Sounds good right? Think you can get that bill out of the finance committee? Think you got fifty votes? I don’t,think they had those things. But if,I am wrong? Fuck!
It’s almost as if you didn’t understand what I said about West Virginia vs California Democrats. Particularly in a Senate that needs 60 + 1 to get anything done.
Sorry, I’m not going to hold your hand and walk you through how sausage gets made.
And you are not the first obamabot to load me up with the usual excuses for ineptitude and failure.
I’m game though. Cite a few examples of yeoman’s work by the senate from 2009 to 2011.
As for the filibuster, please spare me. Aside from it not being an issue if they did medicare for all, obama and the dems used reconcilliation to give us obamacare. The filibuster possibility wasn’t a problem there.
To your filibuster argument, one word, obamacare!
There is no way on earth to tell that head of the finance committee to do a fucking thing. And there were a number of majority busting senators who were not going to change. If I were Obama I would’ve invited them to the oval office to show them my gun collection?
Why don’t they just re-name it the “Leona Helmsley party.”
Oddly enough, not becoming a pox upon both of their houses, “I’ll vote for a third party candidate who has no chance of winning because it makes me tingle with smug self satisfaction” purity douche gives me great deal of satisfaction.
Hows that working out for you? I hear bitching all the time keeps you warm.
Are you a legislator TBogg? I’m not, and so generally speaking I don’t feel empowered to “make sausage.” Rather, with psalongo, I feel obliged to do what citizens are supposed to do: stick up for the idea that “we have to leave a legacy for the next generation that offers a better nation than the one we currently have.”
Voting for Democrats doesn’t appear to be doing that. Rather, voting for Dukakis, Clinton, Gore, Kerry, and Obama appears to have merely reinforced neoliberal economic policy and America’s role as the military proxy for the transnational capitalist class.
I do not think they had the votes. There were senators like Bayh and Lieberman who were not going to vote for that ever.
Romney (the alien shapeshifter from Nibiru) agrees!
Absolutely, Reid really dropped the ball on that one! All he had to do was go back to the old rule that you had to be physically on the floor and speaking to sustain your filibuster. The added benefit to that rule change is that it reduces the total amount of time Senators have to spend with lobbyists.
On the other hand maybe Reid couldn’t count on the Blue Dogs to support the rule change.
I could just as well ask the same question of you.
You are, in fact, bitching. How is bitching about the third-party advocates on this board working out for you? How is bitching about Mitt Romney’s wife working out for you?
From the New York Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/19/us/politics/poll-shows-economic-fears-undercutting-obama-support.html?_r=2&hp
Do you imagine that another diary portraying Ann Romney as elitist is going to cause the Romneyites to vote Obama in droves?
Top shelf reaction! Must credit Jay in Oregon Balloon Juice Commentator!!!!
I think the legacy of voting for Nader or Jill Stein or another lost cause third party candidate might make the next generation believe that you were an ineffectual, albeit idealistic, idiot.
They’ll remember you kindly, but it will be that pitying kind of fondness usually reserved for dumb animals and those who couldn’t help themselves.
If Romney were smart, he would release the tax returns and be done with it. The longer this drags on, the longer Oboover can slide by without explaining his abysmal record on the economy. Romney should know by now his tax returns could reveal he axe murdered 12 old ladies on social security, then requested a refund for the axe and his base would still vote for him. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
The graph has leveled off hasn’t it?
Would you rather that it was still going down?
There are structural problems with the Economy and the Government’s Regulatory Arm that can’t be waved away with a magic wand.
LOL.
Your historical references are inaccurate. Blindingly so.
Dukakis? A vote for Dukakis ‘reinforced neoliberal economic policy’?
Dukakis?
And even with those 2 gone, the dems would still be the majority in addition to 2 indie senators, one being sanders.
Would it have been asking too much for bo to actually work to persuade the senate to go medicare for all. I know, silly argument ’cause he was never interested in it once he cut the deals with pharma and the insurance lobby.
I’m not bitching … I’m snarking. Bitching is what you do because life and reality have disappointed you.
Nobody is trying to change the Romney voters minds. The play is for the mushy middle/”independent” voter who is swayed by narratives like, say, Ann Romney is an out of touch entitled rich lady who thinks her the job of president belongs to her husband. We’ll see how that plays out in November … not July.
And it’s not a ‘diary’ dumbass.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but if done through reconciliation wouldn’t the reform have a 10 yr shelf life (that’s why we’re debating the Bush tax cuts now)?
Maybe the Dem’s wanted something more permanent, even if was less perfect.
I see. And you say this with the icy certainty that voting for Democrats is not a “lost cause,” and that the Democratic Party’s embrace of neoliberal economic policy (see e.g. Naomi Klein’s “The Shock Doctrine”) amidst a growing ecological problem are not “lost causes.” The direction in which America is headed is just fine, it just needs a little alteration. Besides, “realism” won’t allow us to hope for anything more.
Well maybe it’s more fun to be satisfied than to feel doomed. Good for you! You can go to your next global warming disaster with the happiness reserved for obedient sheep.
And by all means don’t take a look at David Roberts’ video:
http://youtu.be/A7ktYbVwr90
You might feel disturbed by the notion that your favorite candidates are doing nothing about a problem that will turn Earth into Venus, and that would kill the buzz you feel when you say stuff like
Yes, be glad it’s not worse, and by all means don’t hope for anything better, like, say, what Reagan would have done had he been confronted with such a jobs crisis.
I may be wrong on this, but I don’t believe they had fifty votes they could count on. Too many blue dogs and compromised votes. But actually, I am a little weary fighting the same battles over and over. I don’t know if ten years mattered to them.
Politics is the art of compromise and what is possible. Not wish fulfillment.
The ACA is the nose in the tent. A complete overhaul of the America health care/insurance industry was not going to come down to one floor vote.
To think so is incredibly naive. Seriously.
And since the polls haven’t really changed despite months on end of the sort of campaign message you’ve been broadcasting, you feel it’s working?
The old battles won’t go away. I continue to believe they did not have fifty votes they could count on. So they took what the had.
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHa’
AHAHAHAHH
Now that was fucking funny.
I’m sure if you a Google search of the words “Dukakis neoliberalism” you’ll discover that nobody is labeling Michael Dukakis a neoliberal.
In fact… I do.
So how’s your campaign to save the earth going?
Obviously not so good.
Bless your heart….
Obamacare passed in the Senate 60-39, get your facts straight.
The House version of Health Insurance reform was pretty good stuff.
The stimulus legislation passed by the House was also much better than what we got.
I didn’t say it, jack, you did. Pay attention. Freddie Hayek would want you to.
Nate Silver’s 538 has Obama with a 67.9% chance of winning.
But thanks for playing….
And if only his base vote for he loses.
Well, I am not happy with the last four years. But do you really think Romney will make it all better. He is a weasel. Third parties should have some chance. Jill Stein is not on the ballot in dozens of states. She has about zerro chance of winning. A third party is probably restricted to local elections unless the candidate has tons of money. There is simply no message here to send since no one but you will even know or care.
Pay attention to what? Your denial that Dukakis was a neoliberal? Refuted already. Now I have toenails that urgently need clipping here.
I had no idea Nate Silver was clairvoyant!
Goddammit, who left the side door unlocked again? I swear it wasn’t me. I was in the kitchen working on this new recipe;
PURITY TROLL UTOPIA BROWNIES
Ingredients:
1 cup self righteousness
2 tbsp condescending rhetoric
1 leaflet from 1996 Green Party that no one read, shredded
1 photo each of Gus Hall, Ralph Nader, and George McGovern cut into one inch squares.
1 copy of The Catcher in the Rye (whole)
1/3 cup magic beans
2 750 ml. bottles of Bankers Club Gin
1 box Betty Crocker brownie mix
Heat oven to 500 degrees. Mix all ingredients in a cake pan while chanting “Obummer is a fascist, Obummer is a fascist”. Place in oven and cook until day before the fall election. Remove, eat half of the tray while piping hot, burning your tounge, lips, and throat into a bubbling, blistery mess. Pass out on the kitchen floor for six months. Wake up to find you have no job, no health insurance, no social security, and the TV blaring Fox News 24/7 as now required by law. Take remaining brownies down to the local park (now a wholly owned subsidiary of Bain Capital) and start a game of checkers with one of the countless other unemployed. Share brownies while regaling them repeatedly on how right you are about everything.
For many Americans her reply is all they need to hear. They’ll make wonderful subjects to the new royals, obedient and unquestioning. They should enjoy their serfdom. Of course these are the same people that would have opposed the Revolutionary War.
See, now you’re just being stupid. You like polls when you think they prove your point but when I cite Silver who has an incredible record predicting outcomes, you got nothing.
I’m done with you. There are plenty of other stupid things on the internet I can waste my time on so you can fuck off elsewhere because you’re not worth my time.
Priceless. LOL
You’re a very confused little thing. I hope you get better soon. A nice, long rest would help.
I don’t. I think that Mitt Romney will be at least as bad for America as Barack Obama is now.
But I sure don’t put my faith in members of the Cherry-Pick Mitt Romney Movement who think that people vote for Mitt Romney because he’s Mitt Romney.
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2012/07/15/political-perceptions-romney-banks-big-on-the-anti-obama-vote/
People vote for Mitt Romney because he’s not Barack Obama. Want Barack Obama to win? Campaign for Barack Obama! It’s the lesser of two foolishnesses.
And when Medicare for all did come up toward the end of the debate, one of your (2) Independents, Lieberman, vote against Cloture and it died.
Love the ad hominems! But come on, now, don’t tell me you’ve run out of names to call me. Let’s see some more!
Comment #135 goes for you too. Sweep the evidence aside! Ad hominems really win debates, y’know.
Ya know if you keep insisting 1+1=3 and yammering at everybody to agree with you or that means they are ignorant?
Yeah, if you keep that up? That is the same as giving everyone permission to call you names.
Google it.
He would have gotten his Democratic controlled Congress to pass the Tax increases he proposed, so he could stimulate the economy with government spending.
Obama doesn’t have a Democratically control Congress.
Srsly, if Mitt stays in this thing, even teabaggers are going to be voting for Obama come November.
Did you ignore all of my responses to your comments, because you thought ther were ad hominem attacks also?
Let me modify the question by substituting “talking past” for “ignore.”
I also don’t think you know what an ad hominem fallacy is. That isn’t ‘namecalling’, incidentally. It’s what grownups call a ‘belief’.
Couldn’t you just go play somewhere else now?
I’m glad you left Hope and Change off your list of ingredients. Obama still has all that shit locked away somewhere. Either that or he assassinated them.
It’s tough to tell who the residents of TBoggland loathe more – Republicans… or liberals that won’t give Obama their unconditional political support.
“Liberals” Dwellers of Fantasyland
Damn, the software didn’t print the symbol for “does not equal”
“liberals” does not equal “Dwellers of Fantasyland”
Not asking for unconditional support for Obama, just not to act like petulant teenagers who didn’t get an iPhone for Christmas.
Really, it’s tough to tell? Wow, you may be the first purity troll I’ve seen here who hadn’t figured out every answer in the known universe. Congrats!
But since it’s ‘tough to tell’ let me break it down for you. We loathe republicans and could give two shits about your unconditional support for Obama. We spend our time bashing the right wing, you spend your time coming over here and lecturing us on the path to utopia, which apparently winds along on a yellow brick road through Oz, Candyland, and Alpha Centauri.
We don’t loathe you. We admire your idealism and shake our heads at your self righteous arrogance. You annoy us, exasperate us, depress us.
Sort of a like teenagers.
The master beats the minion to the metaphor! Well played, sir.
Now we know that 2010 & 2011 returns are all the Romneys will release, which by default proves they’re hiding a lot. I’ll bet Obama did a little behind-the-scenes investigating of IRS records through Holder’s Justice Dept. and found some juicy items that his campaign can “allude to” without any risk of being refuted. And taking big donations from Adelson will add some more slime to the pile, now that the casino mogul is on the hot seat for his alleged mob & drug lord connections. Of course, Obama has plenty of slimy connections too. The stench of politics has never been more odorous while being doused with a camouflage of expensive perfume.
People only want solutions to the many problems government should fix, but doesn’t, because they’re purists. In reality, government exists for moneyed corporations, and the rest of us should STFU.
It’s reflexive – Princeton used grad student housing (WW II apartments for officers in training) to the same end.
And he didn’t have one in 2010… no, wait…
Only good grownups spout the demeaning crap you use.
Can’t we all just get back to the basics…? Like Bipartisanship?
The modern GOP, however, has no use for bipartisanship. As a conservative maxim originally coined by Dick Armey, the recently-retired Republican majority leader, puts it, “Bipartisanship is another name for date rape.”
Oh, that’s just so old school now. The new GOP funds-raiders give “winning at home” new meaning. Effortless segue from semantic baggage to the real meat of the issue….
Right. That’s why anyone unwilling to give unconditional support to Obama or the Democratic Party is a cute idealistic teenager, whose arguments necessitate (admittedly clever) Utopia Brownie baking instructions.
You’re just so idealistic, you dear souls. Poor little things. We’ll be praying for you in the Church of Obama, Sunday. Tell your parents we miss seeing them at Bingo.
Well, in my view we have to leave a legacy for the next generation that offers a better nation than the one we currently have.
Grand idea. And getting easier to accomplish by the minute!
Sigh. No one is telling you to STFU. We all want the same things. It’s your process we find naive. Why is this so hard to grasp? Let’s try a fairy tale! You guys like those!
We here believe the wolf is not only at the door, but he’s busted in, eaten the family dog as well as our eldest child, and is now rampaging through the house in search of more. We feel the best (only) option to deal with that is to grab a knife/rolling pin/fireplace poker and try to beat it off before it takes the rest of us. Meanwhile, the purists have gathered around the kitchen table and decided the best way to deal with the wolf is to draw up elaborate plans that resemble the directions to the game Mousetrap written in Mandarin, email them to 300 Million Americans, who will then see the light and rise up, arrive at the house within the hour, build the elaborate mouse/wolftrap, and rid us of the wolf once and for all. Of course, that would actually take decades, but the purists will not be deterred!
Meanwhile, the wolf is now in the kitchen, under the table, gnawing on your leg.
The End

Your summary graph isn’t fine-grained enough to show the sand in the gears: the number of private jobs has grown, but the number of public sector jobs has shrunk.
It’s the result of a three alarm fiscal policy in response to a five alarm emergency, after which the dispatcher took the phone off the hook.
See 157.
Sigh …
See my response to “psalongo” @81. You do know that Congress includes both the House of Representatives and the Senate, don’t you?
By 2010, I believe that Senator “Centerfold” had replaced Kennedy (I’m not going to verify that, because I doubt that facts really matter to you). So Obama didn’t have a fillibuster-proof majority in the Senate, and the Republicans had been in full obstructionist mode since Obama was sworn-in.
There was maybe a 40 day window between the time that Frankin was finally seated and the day that Kennedy died, that the Dem’s actually, on paper, controlled Congress. But during most of those 40 days, both Kennedy and Byrd were too sick to be full-time Senators.
Was that a simple enough explaination for you? If there is something you still don’t understand, ask specific questions and I will gladly expain that portion with more detail.
Romney’s defense is that he never broke the rules: if there is a problem, it is in the laws, not in his behavior. “I pay all the taxes that are legally required, not a dollar more,” he said.
And tax rules just fall from the sky like hurricanes; nobody of Willard’s class would ever think of using their wealth to try to rig the rules through the political system for their own selfish benefit. It must be “God’s plan”.
And I find your process to be counterproductive. Unconditional political support — especially when that unconditional support is going to one of the wolves you claim to be thwarting — only serves to negate one of the few tools you have to effect change.
Honey, if what I am saying to you is demeaning, you’re in for a long, rough road in the real world. What I’m saying to you is patronising and condescending. Demeaning? Not so much.
You don’t get purity points unless you say the magic word: “duopoly”.
Also remember that your safe word is “Well I live in a red state so it’s not like my vote would matter”.
No you are a cute, idealistic teenager becuase you insist upon:
Ignoring the real limits of Presidential power.
Pretending that the entire nation was backing Obama in Jan 2009.
Ignoring Congress’ role in the mess we find ourselves in.
Ignoring that this mess has been 30-40 yrs in the making and it can’t all be fixed in 3 yrs
Pretending that laws passed before Obama was sworn-in no longer apply.
Pretending that decisions made by past administrations before O’bama was sworn-in no longer affect us.
I could keep going, but I’ll stop here.
Ya gotta love all the “I didn’t care about a million dead Iraqis but now that drone strikes are being used I’m offended by Chappaquiddick” folks what wander in here by mistake.
Unconditional political support — especially when that unconditional support is going to one of the wolves you claim to be thwarting — only serves to negate one of the few tools you have to effect change.
Self-awareness fail.
What do you mean? Are you saying you have not seen the many stories of fundraisers with Clooney, Wintaur and others Obama has had plenty of time to attend, but not even 30 minutes for a meeting of the Jobs Council???
Yeah, it actually happened. Check the AP news feed. Lots of expensive fundraising dinners, no time for the Jobs Council. “Too Much on his plate” Carney says.
I know a lot of people who have nothing on their plate who might like a job and some time spent by Obama with the Jobs Council.
Nah, you are thinking of the wrong people.
These are the folks who can’t explain why a Drone firing a single rocket at some village in Afganistan/Pakistan is the moral equivalent to a full Alpha Strike launched by the USS Abraham Lincoln on downtown Baghdad.
Meet with the jobs council for what purpose?
To come up with more recommendations that the Teabaggers in the House will ignore?
Get what facts straight. I didn’t say anything about the senate vote. I do remember they used reconcilliation to get this through congress.
Oh, and I don’t believe mandating people buy a corporate product is a good thing. Obama said this in one of his typical lies during the 2008 campaign. Even through late 2009 he kept saying we wont sign anything without a strong public option. Yah!
As for the stimulus, it had a few good things in it but many including myself said it was too small and even weaker when you factor in 40% was in tax cuts!
I WANT WEMBLEY

A cute little parliamentary maneuver that the dems knew damn well at that point medicare for all would end up going nowhere. As with many of the other games these dems play, they can say, see we tried medicare for all, now shut and eat your peas!
You are right. He ought to just quit trying.
Oh, wait, he did.
OMG! So George Clooney and Anna Wintour are are being demonized now? Really? Look up Sheldon Adelson; and don’t let your fingers get all crampy with your pearl-clutching!
I think you’re forgetting about the Blue Dogs (Blanche Lincoln, Evan Bayh– whose wife was on the board at Wellpoint at the time) screaming bloody murder about not voting for a healthcare bill that included a public option. For all of the kvetching by Republicans about ACA being jammed through Congress, they apparently were on an extended bender or something because it drug on forever… like the longest root canal ever.
No, both Chambers in Congress passed the ACA bill. They didn’t have to go through the reconciliation process. The ACA is law and that’s the fact that you got wrong.
I’m sure Obama would still like to have a strong Public Option, but it wasn’t going to happen. So he took what he could get, that’s called a compromise. If you insist upon one side sticking to the absolute truth during a negotiation, then you are a fool.
I agree about the private insurance, but the regulatory provisions help, not even close to perfect, but better. Of course if Romney is elected then you can kiss vigorous enforcement of the regulations goodbye.
I’m not going to quibble over “being forced to buy private insurance” vs. not getting a tax credit.
I said the House version of the Stimulus was good, it was much larger and wasn’t larded with tax cuts. The stimulus that we got, with 40% tax cuts, is a compromise bill that the Senate was willing to pass.
You need to pay closer attention to what you are reading.
C’mon, be honest you’re just pissed that notion that appealing to the independants in the Senate was going to get us Medicare for all just ran down your leg.
Come on, the stimulus was 40% tax cuts because Obama compromised w/ Republicans to pass it. Jesus.
I think Obama working on getting re-elected is a better use of his time than wasting it on futile gestures.
You disagree.
Go Figure.
No, he’s not forgetting about the Blue Dogs, his shtick is pretending that they don’t exist.
Ann Romney must not have been addressing the American people, since, as John Boener said,
“Where are the jobs? Not where the hell are the tax returns.”
Actually, that reminds me of something:
Hey Boehner! Where are the jobs?
Futile gesture equals bi-partisanship, in Obama’s case. He should have given up on that after the Republicans started that whole ‘we want Obama to be a one-term president’ thing. I would have loved to see more whoop-ass hauled out on Boehner and McConnell.
Sadly, the veal-pen-Stockholm-Syndrome has been down-sized along with duopoly also, too…
Someone mentioned fund raisers. Mittens has a really swinging, and I mean swinging fund raiser. Women Gregory Peterson met at church, accuse him of rape, burglary, kidnapping and assault. Peterson must be a Mormon. Get it, More Man.
But Gregory Peterson (no relation to Scott I hope) does need $750K for bail, which is ten years of dancing horse deductions.
Have we confirmed that a dressage-themed sheet cake is the best trollbait of all time?
Obama has the secret ingredient that contains jobs and he is totally bogarting it.
Impeach.
Remember the 2008 Prez debates between Obama and McCain? The old guy spent most the time glaring at Barry as if he was thinking “Why isn’t this boy bringing me my Bourbon dammit?” McCain was so pissed off that he had to share the stage with this….this….you know.
Obama just smiled and anwered the questions while the old guy figuratively yelled at him to get off his lawn. I can’t wait for the debates!
Check out more snarkalicious metaMitt from ZH’s WB7. Ann of the Underbritches rides high and proud.
Keyboard protectors on stun.
I’ve floated this idea before. I’m not claiming the ability to see into Obama’s soul, like the Trolls can, but this expaination makes more sense to me than just assuming that Obama is evil.
Obama is the Jackie Robinson of Presidents. If he would have come out with the whoop-ass on day one, the Republicans would have been able to convince a large proportion of the middle that Obama was a wild eyed, bomb-throwing N****r who was going to destroy the nation and that would have been a political disaster. As it stands now only the Teabaggers believe that.
By, being willing to compromise and forcing the Republicans to say no to everything, no matter how reasonable, I think he is winning support in the middle. And that’s what you need to do before you can start shifting the country back toward the left.
I think he is playing the long-game, but what do I know?
Now, the idea that he should have broken out the whoop-ass a lot sooner than he did, does have a lot of merit.
This was meant to be a reply to you “yew_people”

I say, release the Houndz, sir.
I still think it needs some little icing horse apples on it to be complete.
I know!
Look what Obomber did to Minnesotans!
Non-involvement isn’t a “legacy;” it’s an excuse.
There’s three of them on there. (My Little Dressage Pony needs a bit less fiber.)
Thanks Ruthie, perfectly stated.
Hey trolls, take your “enhancing the inequalities” anarchist BS to your own blog and ya’all can be as pure as you wannabe, and with a sympathic audience of your own fellow travelers; wouldn’t that be grand? Either that or run to your room, slam the door, and cry your eyes out because your parents/Tbogg told you to stop acting like a self-indulgent 14 year old.
“…And I didn’t receive a penny of the $100,000 salary from Bain Capital last year. It was used to buy plain cloth coats for my sons, and Ann’s little therapy pony, ‘Rafalca,’.”
Ohhh. I thought those were tree stumps from the forest the cleared to have space to play horsey. It is the most awsomest thing, though. A round of snaps for you…..
It’s tough to tell who the residents of TBoggland loathe more – Republicans… or liberals that won’t give Obama their unconditional political support.
That is a tough one. After thinking about it, it seems to me to be a wash. They both would bring about institution of the most reactionary policies seen in this country since the beginning of the 20th century.
What a country! In Soviet Union, drug addict takes horse. In America, drug addict IS horse!
“And who is it, precisely, that has beneffited most and least from Obama’s Presidency?”
According to David Brooks, it is the “…millions of working families will go to bed at night knowing that they are not an illness away from financial ruin.” Rumored to be 30-million Americans and counting.
* NY Times conservative columnist David Effing Brooks, March 22, 2010, the day before the ACA was signed into law
Well, for one thing, they dropped a bundle on advertising in Iowa to get rid of our Supreme Court judges for allowing marriage equality.
And the studs take vi***gra! By the bottle! Makes ‘em feel 18 again.
Maybe they should check the animals for a different kind of horse…frogs!.
Is it the tip of a new iceberg? Some say no…
Some say yes!
Apparently, it can be synthesized. Who knew?!
