Both of the dogs have become quite fond of going up on the rooftop deck and stretching out in the sun. This is them at the top of the stairs leading to the deck waiting for someone to open the goddam door.
Yes, this is the same deck from which Fenway once went strolling on the roof because, you know, bassets are like big drooly mountain goats. I should add that there is now a barrier to keep the rooftop shenanigans at a minimum.
Also Satchmo & Beckham pictures at the link.
I miss those guys…

Open the fucking door, YOU PEOPLE!
Doggy duopoly!
I miss those guys too.
Oh, nostalgia. Yes,the minute I read “rooftop deck”, I like everyone else who’s been around long enough, thought “Fenway on the roof!”
thanks for the link to the story.
What wonderful pictures, too. Fenway, a mere pup, with soft soccer ball in his mouth, on top of which; Beckham AND Satchmo!
Unforgettable dogz, all.
Oh, and the story of the L&TC astounding grandfather with the tale of the “big fucking spider!”
An excellent installment of Thursday Night Bassett Blogging, TBogg. (posted and typed with four fingers from underneath two furry critters, namely catz, but dogz are equally wonderful)
Frankly, they look like a couple of escapees from the Juvenile Delinquents Hall.
Just in case anybody needed evidence that Beckham was the Hugh Hefner of the TBogg household. Yeah, I clicked that link and embiggened the basset pron.
I don’t know how it is that we can miss pups that we never actually met, but we do too.
Your dogs are running for the U.S. Senate, on a platform of a giant stack of CDs? Damn! All we got here in Oklahoma are Inhofe and Coburn! (moves to California, registers to vote).
Seeing this is bittersweet for me, as we just lost our remaining Basset Maggie, only a few months after losing Molokai. They always leave us too soon….
Those flashback photos definitely brought a tear or two to the eyes. The story, of course, is very funny, because it didn’t happen to me.
This week’s photo, meanwhile, offers conclusive proof that, try as he might, Fenway can’t bring the withering scorn as well as Wembley can. The best he can offer is most accurately described as “mournfully reproachful”.
Hounds on the roof, good times. Some time ago, my wife and I were living upstairs from where we are now. We came home one day to see a window broken (directly above the porch roof). I remember saying “at least the dog is out on the roof.” A couple of weeks later we were walking the boys (black and tan coonhounds- Amos Moses and Leroy Brown)and one of our neighbors asked “which puppy was up on the roof?” Apparently the fire department got involved. Someone had to climb via ladder on to the roof and stuff Amos back into the apartment. And we had no idea.
Beckham was a wonderful vandal, but Satchmo always gave the impression that he possessed wisdom beyond your understanding.
*gulp* Just revisited the Satchmo updates, and then revisited the bromance of Satchmo and Beckham.
The original, one and only, Odd Dog Couple.
That little fuzzy ball with tiny little Fenway….. (wipes unexplained moisture from eyes)….
All right, since you done went and mentioned that eye leak-inducing reminiscence (ya bastid!), I’ll just crank that knob up to ’11′ with a way, way back post of yours.
All the best to the spirit of Cooder.
Well Meep, that broke my heart all over again. I have a small box like the one Tom describes, with the favorite toys and dish, and a whisker I found 3 days after my buddyboy died. I’m working on the “more happy memories than sad” phase, and I just might get there soon…
Ohhhh, so sorry, beckya57. So many times I’ve seen you mention Maggie and Molokai sending their love to the Bogg dogz. So terrible to lose two of our loved furries close together.
Hope you’re feeling better soon.
