Never served and doesn’t want to pay taxes to support that same military which he would like to, surely, expand.

This isn’t a political event. I know politics frequently ends up in it. But it’s not a partisan political campaign and that’s generally the line.

So, it’s ok to be in uniform in a rally, a if it’s something like a gay pride parade which probably had everything from leathermen to Log Cabin Republicans in it. What you can’t be in is a direct partisan campaign.

So, yes to Gay Pride parades, 4th of July parades, the Macy’s Day Parade, Veterans Day parades, I think even the homophobic Boy Scouts Parade during the Jamboree is ok….

But no to Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, etc., political events.

BTW, the reason these sailors asked, was because this kind of thing is a gray-area after years of the don’t ask, don’t tell policy. Plus, if their commanders wanted to retaliate in a back-door fashion by claiming it was a ‘political parade,’ they’d have little recourse but refusing non-judicial punishment and opt for a career destroying (won or lost) Court-Martial.

Have an all-gaii Armed Forces color guard lead a pride parade in his home district. Preferably made up of soldiers fresh from Iraq and Afghanistan – two wars he just couldn’t find the “time” to enlist and fight in.

In all fairness, I think he would have been too old to enlist in any war during the past 2 decades.

But a color guard comprised of decorated gay vets for ANY parade in his district would be a nice touch. Plus a really cool banner: How do you say “Bronzed, buffed, and ready to take your ass out!” in Latin?

It is really amazing to me how fast this has all evolved – from people being surprised that DADT was actually repealed to the Prez coming out for same sex marriage and now the f’n Pentagon OKing flaunting your militariness in gay pride parades! Yay!

Now if only we can get the conversation on banning assault weapons and high capacity ammo clips or magazines or whatever they’re called to start snowballing in the same way we might be able to call ourselves *civilized* again.
