I never did thank everyone who contributed tips and suggestions and such and such for the L&T Casey’s big move to Manhattan. She and mrs TBogg have been there since Tuesday and they have so far been to MoMA, the New Museum, the Natural History museum, visited Chelsea, sat in the bleachers at Yankee stadium, traveled on subways (having survived the sweltering humidity of the platform), been to Grand Central Station, Ground Zero, gone shopping in SoHo (see Casey’s photo above), eaten Italian and Ethiopian food, ordered Chinese food in, watched soccer in a bar, and have been through a few torrential downpours necessitating buying umbrellas from a street corner vendor.
Also, Casey is already talking shit about Queens which, I guess, is one of the quaint native customs.
So, yeah, she’s adapting quite nicely.

Those umbrella vendors live in the sidewalk and sprout like a flower at the first sign of rain. And disappear again just as quickly.
They are completely amazing.
It is a wondrous thing for a Girl and her Mother to hang out together at a sports bar in New York.
She’s already talking shit about Queens? Damn… It’s like she was born in Manhattan or something… SO glad your ladies are having a ball!
Another: Yay!
Thanks for the update. Hope the enjoyment continues…
Nice!
Oops. forgot to pass along this tip from our own lovely and talented daughter’s recent NYC excursion: the Plaza Hotel tea is pretty fabulous.
Don’t let them become Yankee fans.
Female Yankee fans end up growing mustaches.
Hey, I don’t have a mustache! (Do I? I find myself checking. Yankees are about to lose to the Red Sox, alas, though Boston is so hapless this year I don’t mind giving them a boost.) I went to a Mets game in June. Fun. L&T Casey will probably find herself rooting for the Mets (though talk about a hapless team).
Glad to hear that mother and daughter are enjoying themselves. Can’t wait for your posts, mr TBogg, when you’ve visited “the center of the world” (as John Lennon called it at a hearing about his citizenship — to which the judge replied, “Mr. Lennon, you are applying for citizenship of the USA, not of NYC.”) Be prepared: you’ll get hit up for “dinner at this really great xxx restaurant.” And you thought the plane ticket was expensive.
There’s nothing more humid in the world than those subway platforms (except maybe Hong Kong, but that’s different). But I still love to visit and take the subway everywhere. The subway goes to the Cloisters, which is probably one of the most ethereal experiences in Manhattan, especially when the music is playing there.
I’m a California native who met his wife in Manhattan (‘course, she was from Washington State). Doesn’t get better than that.
Comment on your previous thread: Have your San Diego Farmer’s Market buddies get in touch with Randii MacNear – she’s been running the incredible Davis Farmer’s Market for about 30 years. A very sharp lady.
I BEG YOUR FREAKIN’ PARDON!!! (Can’t help it. Born and raised in NYC to a rabid Yankees fan…) I don’t got no mustache. Attitude? You bet. ‘Stache, no.
Lived in NYC years ago. Back in Louisiana, now, where Jindal’s Jeebus rides fire-breathing dragons and BP has generously “donated” billions to fix the ocean that “somehow” got fucked up.
Went back to NYC about a month ago. Actually, the coolest spot in the city was on a subway car. Great A.C. On the subway!!
Have a great stay, L&T! What a great city…
Shopping?! Okay. So how much did the new guitar set you back? : )
Probably best not to tell her that folks in Long Island City laugh at newbies who shop in Soho.
But did they see JuiceBox Jesus light up the score board against The Giants?
Sacks: 4/-33 yds
Rushes: 2/+5 yds
Bright lights! Big city! TebowTime!
Sure, there’s an occasional exception, but most female Yankee fans have mustaches like this guy’s:

I don’t make these rules, I only report them.
If you don’t know it already, mr TBogg, a great place to learn about the city, including its inhabitants’ habit of lamenting (okay, bitching about) loss and change:
