Shorter Ross Douthat:
I will grudgingly agree to allow rape victims to terminate their pregnancies if you will allow me to incrementally restrict the reproductive rights of all of the other women, most of whom are willingly giving it away because they’re sluts. C’mon. I’m meeting you half way…

And this because it explains so much

Ewww. I took the plunge, read the whole thing, and now find myself left with Douchehat’s pseudo-intellectual ejaculate all over my mind… Bleach. Must. Have. Bleeeach.
Why, pray tell, can’t he just jerk of quietly and dejectedly to online prOn like other guys who aren’t getting any? Why must he (with the apparent support of his editors at the NYT) insist on torturing the rest of us by sharing publicly his grotesque and sophomoric S&M fantasies about control over women’s bodies?
Eeewww. My Sunday vagina is usually much better with as little Douthat included as possible. Guys like this make me wish for a gawd who really does smite the wicked except of course he typically smites with a sledgehammer rather than a scalpel. With the exception of the Martyr Breitbart, that is. Good job on that one gawd!
Right now, the web ad to the right of the comment box is for ‘Atlas Shrugged II’, which opens ’10.12.12′. I guess part of being a Randian is being above all that social convention having to do with formatting dates correctly. October is going to be a great month on TBogg.
P.S. How the hell did Douthat get a job on the Times? He’s an idiot.
You just answered your own question. Let’s review: David Brooks, Thomas Friedman, even Bill Kristol for a time. Being an idiot is the primary qualification for an op-ed position with the Times.
P.S. The editor was singing the praises of one Megan McArdle a couple of years ago; we should count ourselves very fortunate that she wasn’t given the spot that went to Douthat.
“If the Republican nominee for Senate in Missouri is an extremist on abortion, what does that make the president of the United States?”
Aughhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! [Screaming in my best Sam Kinison voice]
Ross, abortion is legal in this country. The President’s position adheres to the Supreme Court’s decision. But that makes him extremist?!
Fuck, I knew I shouldn’t have gotten out of the boat.
It makes the president of the United States a normal person.
he’s just mad a lot of sluts will not do republican assholes.
Why is this man so interested in micro-managing the sex lives of his fellow citizens, women in particular?
Another false equivalency pandering shout-out by Ross I-can’t-get-it-up Douthat.
Douthat tap dances around the fact that Akin’s “legitimate rape science” is fantastical magical thinking and just a wee bit “extreme.”
According to Douthat, if anyone actually, you know, points out that Akin is fulla shit, why then, sirrah, that makes them an equal, but opposite, lunatic fringe extremist nutcase.
And all Democrats should STFU about Akin AND abortion just because! So there! neener neener…
Wait, are you making fun of Obama? Because you know how he HATES that.
well, ross douchecanoethat, i will grudgingly allow convicted rapists to escape the death penalty since you’re so pro-lifey if you will allow me to slice off your nuts. You asshat douchecanoes don’t need ‘em anyway. C’mon, i’m meeting you halfway!
I just read the comments on the Times article. There were very few and the comments have been closed. Is this usual comment behavior over there?
*sigh*
What can I say? Douchehat and vaginas never turns out well.
Russ-”Vaginas….my old nemesis…we meet(metaphorically speaking) again.”
Ross is a very pious right-wing roman catholic, the anti-vatican II variety. He believes god’s “natural law” surpreme. Ross and his wife were married in September 2007, yet there are no little nippers chez Douthat. By his rules, seems pretty fucking unnatural.
Oh, pshaw! Our Megan is twice, no – three times!, the writer that Mr. Douthat is. If she wasn’t so pressed for time doing all the important things that fill up her day, she would have totally demonstrated it long before this. Did you know both her parents are really, really smart and stuff? That totally runs in families. She totally deserved that spot at the Times, and it was just so unfair that they went with the man instead. Clearly racism, or sexism or whatever. As Our Megan herself could say, Ninety-seven percent of all hires by newspapers for op/ed columns in the past 15 years have been men instead of women. Clearly the Liberal Media is completely sexist, which should prevent it from criticizing any inadvertent and well-intentioned Republican action that might be misinterpreted by Partisan Haters as “anti-woman”.
It’s perfectly obvious to Douthat and his cadre that the 19th Amendment has been wrongly interpreted by radical jurists. Women are, as the Founders intended, property. Property cannot be a citizen.
Our Megan could never resist the chance to lecture liberals from her self-endowed position of superiority.
Megan McArdle: “Abortion is something done for the benefit of the mother, for which the child who will not be born pays the ultimate price. Trying to elide, sugarcoat, or invert this is morally bankrupt. It seems to me not only reasonable, but fundamentally right that society should force women to confront the tragic cost they are asking someone else (even if only a legally hypothetical someone) to pay for their freedom, and evaluate whether the benefit they are gaining is really worth that cost.”
For anyone who is not him…
So Bill Maher was right. Conservatives hate the idea of single women having sex.
I think the polyurethane finish on McMegs’ countertops from her do-it-yourself-on-the-cheap kitchen makeover is leaching into her brain.
