Sister Rachel Maddow explains it all to you

I’m kind of outsourcing this because I was tied up all day and there was a lot to take in, what with Republicans killing each other, the recriminations, the loathing, the existential despair.
Good times. Good fun.

Plus: rioting!
Rachel’s intro tonight was a cogent, ass-kicking, winger/Fox News s:lapdown of epic proportions. Can the bubble have burst? Doubt it, but watching Bill Maher Friday is gonna be Nirvana for lefty, vagina-Americans like me. I’m DVRing her show just to keep that intro and her rundown of pro-rapebaby assholes and their amazing election takedowns. Can we now please do something about climate change, which is not a hoax?
These are Republicans we’re talking about. They can’t survive outside their own bubble.
They are doomed and it’s hilarious to watch.
Continuing to refer to it as a ‘bubble’ really isn’t going to cover it anymore.
Welcome to Nihilizzadome! There are no facts! Just hot air!
Thanks for that, Tbogg. I saw the final three quarters of that last night and thought it ought to be saved to show any right wingers who might have some remaining grain of rationalism or stirrings of a vague memory that a history teacher once told them about the Enlightenment.
Maddow at her best.
I watched the whole election night on Fox, just to see them all sweat. When Romney lost Pennsylvania they were just speechless. It was like watching the flat-earthers take a ride in the space shuttle.
The first 15 minutes of Maddow’s show last night was classic. Should be required viewing in PoliSci 101 (or Journalism) classes for the next 20 years. Maybe the next generation will watch that segment and laugh uproariously at the ridiculous stupidity that was the Republican party ca. 2012. Just like Tbogg nation does now.
finally anderson cooper can marry rachel maddow … Rmoney you are so fucking Unhired!!! … racially speaking, unhired is subfired … go craigslist your tanning spray bitch … thanks tbogg
It’s interesting to read reports that Karl Rove’s backers are furious– not unhappy, discouraged, or disappointed, but furious. Sort of like they really, truly thought they could manipulate 60M semi-rational people casting secret ballots for their societal preferences based on information obtained from an uncensored media. Either that, or they thought they were buying election fraud. Or they’re emotionally petulant children. Or, like most things in life, a little of all of the above.
Excellent segment, and all true.
Sadly, the people that need to watch and comprehend this message will refuse to do so.
My wingnut brother-in-law dismisses her as “Rachel Madcow” and trivializes whatever she might say. He is an intelligent man, but during the primaries he was actually singing the praises of Herman Fucking Cain!
What the hell is wrong with these people?
they are assholes
Perhaps the most entertaining thing in the aftermath (for me, anyway) is watching the teabaggers dig in and double down on their craziness. The Boner’s gonna have fun dealing with that while simultaneously trying to avoid getting shanked by Eric “Creep Vibe” Cantor.
Good times.
Don’t get to excited. The repubs were down bad in 1976 after Carter won. The Dems had a large majority in the house and senate, the 4 years later came Reagan. If the repubs are smart Mia Love will be the face of the party for the next 4 years even if she lost.
A good demo on how to gloat. Remind them of every failure, belittle their meagre successes, do it with barely concealed glee. There are few enough opportunities so do it right.
I have some family members who fall into that category. My nephew calls girls bitchez, calls gays Homos and watches Fox because they’re the only ones whose coverage is “fair and balanced.” Was a big Romney fan.
Just wait until xmas and I give him a lump of coal.
It’s So Sad.
I had two wingnut white guys yelling in my face like the bullies they are yesterday.Talk about sore losers.
These guys are good friends but they were absolutely unhinged about Oilbombers win.
It’s all so utterly juvenile, isn’t it? How do Dems make themselves feel better about their loathesome party? Why, they hate on some Pubs. And you know what? The Pubs do the exact same in reverse. Does it make you all feel better as the Uniparty drives the nation and the world into hell?
Once again, Dr. Maddow makes me regret not being an attractive, eligible lesbian…
Want to see “sore loser”?
Drink deep the tears of Commander Loser:
http://www.libertarianrepublican.net/2012/11/the-end-of-liberty-in-america-only.html
Maher should do a remote show from Colorado or Washington state and come out on stage stoned as bejeezus.
If only democrats had stones: they would stomp the losers into the dust and make them cry like the teababies they are.
I’m sure Mr. Nicepresident won’t lead that.
That scary thing about the truth – it DOES have a liberal bias.
Moar Purity!
Guess this is what was meant by, “To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women”.
And apparently, failure smells a lot like millions of teabaggers simultaneously shitting their pants. Too bad all those health workers that could have cleaned them up were laid off.
You consider Ann Coulter, Michelle Bachmann, Michelle Malkin, and Gretchen Carlson to be women? How…unique! I might go so far as to call them something else, but not women. :)
Wow, we all wish we could be as ideologically pure and self-righteous as you are.
Get lost. Purity trolling and vote-bullying accomplished exactly nothing two days ago, and four more years of it will accomplish four more years of nothing. Find solutions or shut your fucking trap.
Exactly. That is always an appropriate technique for dealing with bullies which, in the end, is just exactly what these teababies are.
Lost among all the great news is Alan Grayson getting back into the House. A double digit win, no less, in a newly created district.
I watched the clip twice; it was that good.
I don’t watch cable news channels as a rule, because they are so blindingly uninformative for the most part, and relaxed that rule for the election coverage Tuesday night, and asked the bartender at the local to put up both CNN and FNC on opposing screens to get a sense of the difference in coverage, which was not as much as CNN would like you to think. Yes, FNC ran more “voter fraud alert” bullshit, but still, called the election for Obama before CNN did, to their credit (and Karl Rove’s hilarious dismay, and for a minute I thought the repulsive motherfucker was gonna have a heart attack on set, but sadly, nothing doing).
Yesterday, I spent the day watching the various news channels for followup coverage, and wound up watching MSNBC, which programming and personalities are new to me, for most of yesterday afternoon, because, well, it felt so good, almost guiltily so.
God they all had such fun, laughing and running clips of Morris’ and Newtie’s and Krauthammer’s predictions and Trump’s crazy-ass tweets and Rove’s sputtery meltdown, and Martin Bashir (again, first time I’ve seen him in action) was absolutely devastating in his sendups of Limbaugh et al., the aging Conservative Clueless Clown Corps (TM).
I’d like to pretend I have better things to do with my time, but [laughing], oh man that felt good, and I needed that.
Hawes asks us to: Drink deep the tears of Commander Loser:
I’ll say this for him, he didn’t waste much time in the first stage of the Kubler-Ross model for grieving, moving right along from denial to stage two, anger.
By the same token, for the most part, the wingnut response has been very much first stage (see Joel Pollak’s nimrod screed, previous post), but sooner or later, they will move on: it’s gonna get nasty.
And hopefully it’ll be very, very entertaining, although it bears repeating that there are few things more dangerous than a cornered rat, and I frankly fear that somebody’s gonna do something really crazy, really soon.
No. “Juvenile” is sitting outside the system and calling everyone inside of it ‘poopyheads’ while time and events keep marching on.
Have fun sitting in your room waiting for your revolution to start any minute now…
Dayam, Ms. Maddow; I need a smoke after that. Lucky for me I live in CO!
We still have work to do — namely, we need to make sure Harry Reid stomps Joe Lieberman’s last fuck-you into the dirt:

Imka writes: Does it make you all feel better as the Uniparty drives the nation and the world into hell?
Hard to imagine anything worse than the hell you drove the country into when your abdication of responsible voting handed the election to Dubya in 2000, but the nation has always survived self-described patriots like you and the damage you cause.
But don’t forget to give yourself a little pat on the back. Oh what the hell, just take it out and give yourself a good tug job, while gazing in the mirror and basking in the self-righteous glow of yourself.
Don’t forget to clean up afterward. Oh, right, you don’t do cleanup, we do.
If only I had the “Strength of WILL” that you do, as well as the “Underpants of RIGHTEOUSNESS” that you wear, to truly understand what a loss this really was for AMERICA.
Please enjoy this invitation to avail yourself of the gustatory delight that is the sodium-chloride-infused basket of pickled phalli.
Oh, and Sean Bonner is a narcissistic-navel-gazing, mid-life-crisis-entrapped asshole. But I repeat myself.
When do we start conspiring to ingnore, frustrate, marginalize, piss on, disrespect, accuse of treason, accuse of being unAmerican and definitely gay the following: Mitch McConnell, Eric Cantor, John Boehner, Lindsey Graham (that’s a gimmie on the gay part) and….fill in the blank Republican? We know Harry Reid is up for it.
Serious adults support politicians that murder children and starve the elderly. You juveniles just don’t understand.
Thank you, Holden Caulfield.
You betcha. Bill can be as stoned as he likes, as long as it doesn’t take the knife from his to tongue.
OT, but exactly how skinny is Carabou Barbie gonna get? Did she take over the local meth business? Good God. And talk about The Bubble, the look on her face was priceless. She honestly cannot fathom what just happened. She and Ann Romney’s looks as the news sunk in should be frozen in amber.
That was a really great rant by Rachel. It made so much of this worthwhile.
And a last add– thanks to Rachel for giving a shout out to a couple of California propositions passage– first, that the three strikes law should be backed off a bit to not automatically cause a life in prison sentence for Jean Valjean, and second, that unions “and corporations” should not be prevented from using member dues to make political contributions (corporations don’t do this, since they get their money elsewhere and don’t bother to ask shareholders about the political spending, but unions derive all of their dough from union members).
Sadly, we did not strike down the Death Penalty. Oh well, try again, and next time with a massive education campaign about the cost of it (yes, believe it or not, it costs much, much more to condemn a man to death than to life imprisonment, owing to the cost to the state of defending the numerous appeals and various other motions), and the unrecoverable error of the simple and increasing possibility that you’ve put an innocent man to death, and third, that it’s impossible to teach that killing is wrong by killing, and fourth, the mistaken belief it’ll make potential killers think twice when it’s obvious that they haven’t even thought once, and fifth, you fucking dolts…
[wheezing] Oh, what’s the bloody use. We’ll get it someday. I mean, what are we, Texas or something?
Go to PTA meetings, run for school board, then state senator, make some decisions and implememnt policy in your town, then run for Congress, get elected, get legislation passed and signed by the President, run for Governor of your state, serve a full term, then run and win in the big show.
Then leave a comment here that you have stopped the murder of children and starvation of the elderly.
Wait, what’s that you say? Oh, it’s just easier to leave snotty comments on a blog?
Got it.
Why do you bother coming here? You can see that the vast majority here don’t appreciate that sort of comment. We don’t feel like criminals or support any of the things you want to accuse us of. Frankly, I am offended by it. You can support the Rs, a third party or whatever you like, but try to make reasonable comments that we can engage you on instead of throwing fireballs around. But maybe I misunderstood you?
<sihikee writes: Serious adults support politicians that murder children and starve the elderly. You juveniles just don’t understand.
Simpering innuendo is your stock in trade, clearly, but permit me to politely ask you to be specific, so I can more fairly refute your ass up one side of the street and down the other, and let’s take ‘em one at a time. Okay?
Right, why’d I ask.
I am not familiar with sihikee’s history, but I have the impression he was snarking, i.e. “serious adults” support baby-killers and granny-starvers == Republicans, “juveniles” (Dems) do not. No?
You possibly, maybe, just perhaps, are right.
No, I was speaking of Obama, and his murderous foreign policy / granny starving grand bargains / economic inequality amplifying recovery policies.
But it was snark. It’s all TBogg understands.
I bet nobody ever gets your eggs right either, do they?
I still don’t know how Maddow stays on the air – TV is supposed to be about stupid-sounding people saying stupid things to stupid people.
The fact these supposed “Rich because they are superior hunters” billionaires were hoodwinked into believing that a Romney victory was a certainty really brings home how much the financial system in this country protects their wealth for them.
I have the impression he was snarking
Poe’s law applies to firebagging, too, apparently.
WRT Rove’s backers being furious because they thought that they could just buy the election from 60 million suckers – yup. Tells you a lot about just who’s the idiot and what kind of paradise our oh-so-caring Galtian betters would build for us, dunnit.
Still waiting, Sonny. Take your time.
Oops, spoke too soon.
bassets in berets & dashikis … the new ‘black’ …
You think I want to hear rationalizations for drone murders and counterproductive neoliberal policies leading to greater economic inequality than we saw under Bush? Or your rationalization for voting for the person, who pursued those policies?
No thanks, Stepford. I’d rather reach out to people willing to resist those injustices.
Nobody is ever going to get those eggs perfect. Sorry.
Motherfucker, the only thing you’re resisting is rational fucking thought. You’re writing sentences that mean absolutely nothing and then turning on the ‘smug’ and glancing away in high dudgeon.
You live in a nation with more than 300-million motherfucking people, the only reaching out you do is to tug the tiny cock of some like-minded fuck knuckle who preaches this nonsensical bullshit in small coffee shops while lightly paging through the latest catalog of healing crystals.
You’re a true0blue motherfucking firebagger, I’ll give you that. You truly do expect motherfucking ponies to shit out love-muffins covered in kumbaya icing and sprinkled with the frozen tears of laughing angel-nymphs.
Again, take this back to the fucking corner of the world where your wishes are actually the dreams of all men, read a motherfucking history book, read another motherfucking history book and the go get laid you simpering fumbledick.
Again, be specific. Not a splattering of bullshit, be specific. One at a time, please. Stop babbling for god’s sake.
Do you know, there’s a reason they call intellectual cowards like you pussies, but I can’t think of it, because every vagina I know can provide a far better account of themselves than you.
Nope. No way. Not even clicking….
Let me try this. I’m going to assume you’re a man. Why do I think that? If you were a woman, you’d see the bullseye pointed right at your body, the outrageous idea that these nutcases could take over your life in such a fundamental way. I’ve sat here and watched the states with Republican governments pass law after law aimed right at women’s fundamental rights. I’m way past childbearing age but these attacks still hit me in my gut and I will be damned if I was going to sit here and make a statement about drones on the backs of every woman in this country. This is gut-instinct survival mode for us. If you cannot understand this, then I’m sorry. I can walk and chew gum at the same time….save women’s rights AND protest drones. Voting for anyone but Obama would accomplish two things: give my government to people that don’t respect me AND continuing the drone strikes. Just FUCKING GREAT.
ted nugent’s tweets has a sad … oh the butthurt humanity … hahahahahahahahaha
A last add on the Kubler Ross model of the five stages of grief:
After a day of Karl Rove blaming everyone and everything but himself for his poor predictive skills (most recently claiming that Obama won the election by “suppressing the vote” with “negative ads”), TCM commenter Ugg_The_Repug described how the Kubler Ross model works in the Rove Reality:
1–Denial
2–Denial
3–Denial
4–Denial
5–Aneurism
Nice one, Ugg.
They invested a few millions in the probability that an Rmoney assministration would save them ten or more times that much in taxes. Even if they thought Willard had only a 5-1 shot, for most of them it was a small bet with a decent risk/reward profile.
OK, apparently we have to break it down for the kids in the slow reading class.
Things achieved on Tuesday by Democrats, and People Who Are Working Towards More Left-Wing Long Term Goals, But Who Realise That When Asked To Make Choices That Will Affect The Short Term In The Here And Now, You Have To Chose The Best Option Available Among Those That Stand A Chance Of Actually Happening:
1. Clear message sent in support of womens rights, as men who want to force women to carry their rapists baby voted out of office
2. Millions of people who now have health insurance they didn’t have before will retain it
3. First ever Asian-American woman elected to the Senate, first ever practicing female Hindu to the US House of Representatives
4. Clear message sent in support of LGBT rights, with 4-0 victories in favour of gay marriage
5. Victories for marijuana legalization
6. Black man entire country has spent four years being told is a socialist Muslim who wants to take their guns and give their tax money to sluts and unemployed minorities re-elected with absolute majority in both electoral college and popular vote
Things achieved on Tuesday by Purity Trolls, Hardcore No-Compromise Jillsteinistas and the Don’t-Vote-It-Only-Encourages-Them Brigade:
1. Fuck all
2. Nothing
3. Fuck all again
4. Err….
Exactly. This isn’t hard. Think Nate Silver…you have to work in what we like to call ‘reality’.
The Death Penalty was surprisingly close. But the really BIG FUCKING DEAL in California was the populace voting for the first time in umpteen decades to tax itself more (or more accurately, to tax itself as a whole a little more and soak the rich for the rest of it). There was a massive amount of disinformation money spent to beat Jerry Brown’s Prop. 30 and in the end it carried handily — much to my shock and delight. It won’t nearly solve every problem in this state — where a shrinking Republican minority has had filibuster power through shitty 2/3 majority tax laws for decades. Usually, a governor’s clout doesn’t carry over to initiatives — Arnold got his anti-union ass handed to him a a couple of times — but Brown made this happen. It’s really a small miracle.
OT sort of, but I’d like to personally partially thank Lou Dobbs for this election. I can remember his daily, incessant rants about our “Broken Borders”. It was so vicious and unrelenting that even CNN couldn’t take it anymore. That really helped to get the xenophobia cranked up to 11, which led to SB1070 and other laws, and now the national Republican party is going to end up just like California’s Republican party after the disasterous Prop 87 of long ago.
.nonexistent. It seems that Hispanics have very, very long memories. So, thank you Lou. Y vaya con Dios, motherfucker.
Might as well fearmonger because Obama ain’t going to do jack sh*t about the real economic issues facing the majority of Americans.
Yeppers!
To quote sihlkee:
0.3%? Despicable! What sort of purity bund excepts more than 0.1% non-contamination?
Make a wrong turn on your way to RedState?
Who’s he? /s
That’s one righteous rant!
I figure most of the no-on-34 was people who want revenge more than they want justice.
and even better, the GOP doesn’t have enough members in the legislature to block stuff (like the budget) without Ds crossing the aisle.
Yes, when you drop both fuck-knuckler and fumbledicker, and they’re barely noticeable, you’ve got yourself the makings of a sweet rant!
i thought it was an incantation from a harry potter outtake … fumbledick was the really large dude played by robbie coltrane? …
Get rid of the damn filibuster and the secret hold!! Either “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” or get the hell out of the way. And stare the orangeman down, for Christ’s sake.
Well, we do have our moments [laughing], Sec, and occasionally we get it right. Thank you for that.
PJEvans writes: I figure most of the no-on-34 was people who want revenge more than they want justice.
We’ll get it: like geology, it’s all about time– and pressure.
And let me share that with you young and insatiatiable firedogs:
Time, and pressure.
To translate, then: the GOP can still block stuff in the legislature.
No need to thank me – I like to help!
