Shorter Charles Murray:
I find it inexplicable and troubling that my indisputably correct stereotype of an Asian would believe in the demonstrably false stereotype of conservatives as a bunch intolerant racist god-botherers. I mean, I thought these people were supposed to be smart.
You know … like white people.

Oh Charlie:
I use Asian-Americans as an example of how powerfully this antipathy can alienate a naturally conservative voting bloc. Let it be clear: The causal link with social conservatism is asserted here, not proved.
Translation: I like to take a steaming dump, than mold my feces into other shapes. Look, this one’s a dragon! I bet it would vote republican. If it could vote. But it can’t. Because it’s shit.
Error corrected in proof.
the party of Bible-thumping, anti-gay, anti-abortion creationists
Well, you’d have to include ‘racist-ass crackers’ to make it completely accurate.
Fixed that for ol’ Curve Bell.
Ask not for whom the bell curves, it curves for thee.
“…the party of Bible-thumping, anti-gay, anti-abortion creationists. Factually, that’s ludicrously inaccurate. In the public mind, except among Republicans, that image is taken for reality.”
Whoa, dude doesn’t get out much.
I’m wondering if he has actually seen his own party’s platform from that election thingie that happened… when was that? Oh yeah, this month.
Also, too: need to add greedy, granny-starving vultures to the list.
Oh, and,

GOP talk.
Not only that they love working sixteen hours a day for you fucks to make a few more bucks. More profits for the Kochs.
I don’t like to paint with a broad brush, but the vast majority of Asian Americans I know highly value education, the sciences, and so on.
Today’s GOP wants to dismantle the public school system, while discounting science and/or running science out of the room in favor of some Biblical mumbo-jumbo creationism.
The Asian Americans I know, frankly, SEE this with their own eyes, shake their heads at the abject stupidity & cupidity of the GOP & the 1%. And so, where do they go/vote? Buy a clue.
That, and the fact, that Asian Americans still are discriminated against, still are bad-mouted, especially by a large majority of the dumbed-down dittoheaded GOP base. Asian Americans know this. Why would they vote for people, who frankly don’t like them because Asian Americans are not WHITE.
Cultures that venerate education tend to look unkindly on mouth-breathers who disdain reason and evidence-based decision making over “goin’ with mah gut” authoritarian know-nothingism, and who want to force schools to teach that the Earth is 6000 years old and Jesus rode a dinosaur into Jerusalem.
Some time when I think that the world has gone mad and my roof has blown off, I happen to hear some of Chopin’s piano sonatas and perchance read here. Ahhhhh; there are times when it doesn’t suck.
Ahem:

I read that link and it was like my brain broke teeth off the gears. So much fail it is impossible to know where to start. If this:
“Everyday observation of Asians around the world reveal them to be conspicuously entrepreneurial, industrious, family-oriented, and self-reliant. If you’re looking for a natural Republican constituency, Asians should define “natural.”
is all they think qualifies them for their special little club they should stop believing the pr crap they write to sell the masses on their product. Or maybe that’s just the very heart of it that even those at the top, the most educated of them, the most traveled ones, that even they buy into it whole heartedly. Reminds me of Pink Floyd, “Hey you Whitehouse…” didn’t refer to our Whitehouse but to a conservative woman who made arguments sound convincing enough to sell this line of shit.
I’m still wondering why the GOP only captured some 60 percent of the white male vote. Clearly their message isn’t getting across to vast swaths of whitedom.
There are some. I gratuitously used a video of Republican Asian American woman in my new Post. This Asian American is a cheerleader.
She is Miss June, in the Pretty in Mink Calendar. Can you guess who this is?
I’m going to steal someone else’s comment. Here’s “joe from Lowell”:
FTFY
What an easy target you picked today, Tbogg. The intellectual descendant of the Columbia University professor who testified for segregated schools as an expert witness in one or more of the cases that wound up as Brown v. Board of Education. No doubt Murray’s writings are also distributed by the
WhiteConservative Citizens Councils to recruit naive freshmen in Southern colleges and universities as Mr. Tenured-at-Columbia’s writings were in the 1960s. Wonder if that’s what called forth Trent Lott?Bigots see bigotry everywhere. I think that’s why they always say that they have “lots of gay/black, Asian, Hispanic, women, etc. friends”.
Full stop.
Sweet Jeebus, has Charles Murray bothered to listen to prominent Republicans of late, or for that matter for the last thirty years? Or bothered to read, say, the Republican Party platform for the state of Texas? “Doesn’t get out much” doesn’t begin to describe it; this guy clearly lived in the bubble that burst with a loud pop on election night 2012. Many if not most Republicans are sanctimonious god-botherers, and they’re certainly the Republicans who make the most noise. Did he miss this somewhere along the line? The Republican Party of Howard Baker (and for that matter Robert Dole) is as dead as
Robert Dole’s dickStrom Thurmond. Not that any of this is a surprise to readers of this blog and many others. But it still comes as a little bit of a surprise that Republicans are so very shocked that large numbers of people who they think should be natural Republican voters turn out to…not like Republicans very much, or at all. How could this be?
Because fat windbags like Rush Limbaugh (among others) have made it very clear for decades that Republicans don’t like them, or for that matter regard them as “real Americans”. Also. Too.
See how that works, Charles? By the way, tickets for the clue train are available; I’d get right on that.
The response I left to Murray’s “article”:
Dude, that elephant in the room is Republican RACISM, and Asian-Americans are no more interested in it than anyone else. This article is just so much sophistry by way of evasion of that core fact.
Racism–outright fundamentalist antipathy to all Others–is a rock that the Republican Party climbed under long ago; it’s the core of your Southern strategy. There’s no climbing out from under it.
You’ve just wasted three minutes of our lives scratching your head over why Asians don’t love you. . . because they’re so smart? Dogs chase their tails with more grace than this piffle.
Of course it is. Charles Murray was a cross-burner, evading responsibility for racism is a basic requirement for him. Just google “charles murray cross burning”. One of the top hits contained a link to Phoenix Woman:
http://phoenixwoman.blogspot.com/2005/08/charles-murray-crossburner.html
Edit: by the way, I agree with her point there…the only nit I’d pick with this post is that TBogg failed to mention Murray’s cross-burning, which is where I think any discussion of Murray’s opinions on people of various races should start.
The Pu-Pu platter on Happy Birthday Dear Jesus Day is double happiness.
Frankly you guys sound a bit mean-spirited. Murray may be misguided but he’s not Dr. Mengele.
Murray left for the Peace Corps in Thailand in 1965, staying abroad for a formative six years. At the beginning of this period, the young Murray kindled a romance with his Thai Buddhist language instructor (in Hawaii), Suchart Dej-Udom… Murray subsequently proposed by mail from Thailand, and their marriage began the following year… Murray divorced Dej-Udom after fourteen years of marriage and three years later married Catherine Bly Cox… Murray attends and Cox is a member of a Quaker meeting in Virginia, and… has four children, two by each wife.”

Hmm… some of his best wives weren’t Nazis. Got it.
How does he get along with Steve Sailer?
AEI? You expect me to fucking click on that shit? Sorry, I’m busy dousing myself in jet fuel and setting the Gaia-damned neighborhood on fire.
Maybe tomorrow.
Isn’t it amazing that cross-burning pricks like Charles Murray have not been banned from public life?
Oh, the other 40% got the message: And most of them suspected even before Mitt’s 47% speech in FL that rich guys don’t give a ratzass about blue collar workers.
I tried the link in your piece, Phoenix Woman, but it no longer leads to the article. If you have the whole thing archived somewhere I would like to read/keep it. My mother read something of his recently and wanted to convince me of some of its value, despite his association with right wing values, etcetera.
I guess he missed the Republican primaries, where the candidates were all vying to see who could be the most anti-gay, anti-abortion creationist Bible-thumpers
Murray is right. Indians own my local liquor store, and Koreans own the bagel joint and dry cleaners, and I just can’t tell them apart!
Good work! Thanks …
Just watched a state championship girls soccer game where fans from a pretty damn red and mostly white part of the state began chanting when an Asian-born player stepped up to take the kick in a shoot-out…and guess what that chant was???? U-S-A, U-S-A
Yeah, experiences like that just MIGHT give voters of any ethnicity pause before supporting the “true” GOP.
