And Wembley, much the younger, has managed to get Fenway to the refugee camp, and is now watching for any distributions, ready to succor and implore anyone who might aid his family.

I take this as their attempt to create an Escheresque reality-warping image. That, or they’re reenacting the shot in 2001 where Bowman and Poole are seated/standing at different angles on the bridge of the Discovery.

Are you sure that Fenway hadn’t just skidded out trying to negotiate the sharp turn and Wembley hadn’t stopped to offer aid and encouragement? There’s just a soupcon of “Release the Hounds!” to that photo.
