Shorter SippyCupp:
Oh sure, we could overhaul the universal background check for the purchase of guns which might very well cut down down on gun deaths like the ones at Newtown which made me sad on teevee for a few minutes, but has anyone considered the psychic costs of filling out paperwork and then standing there and worrying that you might get turned down like that time that my credit card was refused at Olive Garden and I didn’t have any cash? WELL, HAVE YOU?
In summary: so not fair. Now, who is up for unlimited breadsticks? Your treat…LOL

I watched a clip of Wayne LaPierre tap-dancing around answering a senator asking “Do you object to criminal checks at gun shows?” on (I think) Ed Schultz’s program tonight. What was that German word for a face begging for a fist? ‘Cos that’s how he made me feel.
“Fistenfokkenfacen”, although that may also be a set of end tables at IKEA.
Is this anything like waiting in line for eight hours to vote or is that a completely different issue? If you have to wait in line longer to register your fucking gun than you do to vote, then democracy is working…you degenerate asshole.
No, there really is a word: Backpfeifengesicht http://askville.amazon.com/Word-Day-Backpfeifengesicht-German/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=60446360
So it’s from YOU I got Sippy Cup! I knew I couldn’t be that fulla snark.
And how many of the current spree killers were criminals before this, Cupps-full-of nothing? None, you say? Because “None” would be the correct answeer, douchebag.
I heard a gun nut on NPR complaining about the inconvenience of waiting for background checks, what with slow internet and so forth. His argument was, basically, “Imagine if you ran a grocery store and you had to wait for the background check before you could give the customer his groceries. How would you ever stay in business!” It’s kinda hard to argue with that logic.
I agree with your tag: those smart glasses ain’t working. Also: shut up dumb lady.
Literally, that translates to “back whistling face”. I guess like, “you’ll, be whistling out the back of your head.”
Oh, and Burnsie, did any callers recommend mid-forehead bar code tattoos to answer the express checkout problem?
Um, S.E., try the all you can eat veal.
He always makes me feel that way. I’m starting to hate him more than I hate Grover Norquist.
Can someone explain to me, in small words because I’m apparently just not getting it, why it’s wrong to make all law-abiding gun owners bear responsibility for the acts of a few criminals with guns, but it’s perfectly fine to make all law-abiding mentally ill people bear the responsibility for a few criminals with guns? Also, why’s it unconstitutional to keep a list of non-person firearm items but okay to keep a list of all persons with mental illness? It’s because we don’t have lobbyists or an industry association, isn’t it. I still feel like there’s a due process issue in there somewhere, which may be applicable to humans but less so to bits of metal. Hearing actual rational people say things like “not letting privacy laws get in the way of keeping the mentally ill from acquiring guns” is disturbing.
Seriously, this shit has been freaking me, and a lot of other crazy people, out for weeks. I’m trying to keep in mind that our government is too irretrievably broken to actually do anything about this, and that the NRA is opposing background checks anyway, but, and I’m aware that this is a selfish and juvenile reaction to piles of dead children, we paranoid schizophrenics do kind of tend to be, you know, paranoid.
I may need to be talked down, Rachel Maddow style.
Is it irresponsible to speculate that those glasses are fake? No, it’s irresponsible not to speculate.
Remember how the powers that be (and their lickspittle media fluffers) told us that we need to have voters show ID at the polls because of the possible threat that someone might commit voter fraud? Even though there have been very, very few cases of it in the past decade?
Now these very same people are telling us that having to go through a background check to purchase a gun is just so much trouble, it’s tyranny I tells ya!
I’m with outrageoftheday – if it takes longer to vote than it does to purchase a killing machine, then democracy: u r doing it rong, morans.
Seems reasonable to me. Fermented foods can get pretty volatile sometimes, you know. And don’t get me started on cheeses–that’s flat out biological warfare, there. A wheel of old Camembert can take out an entire city block.
Also, why’s it unconstitutional to keep a list of non-person firearm items but okay to keep a list of all persons with mental illness? It’s because we don’t have lobbyists or an industry association, isn’t it.
Pretty much yeah.

BreadsticksThorazine.New Rules:
If you are a survivalist, you can’t have a gun.
If you watch more than 3 hours of Faux News per month, you can’t have a gun.
Don’t forget that real tasty cheese-like substance that comes in aerosol cans. Hell, that thing could blow up at any minute, thus rendering plans for the trailerpark potluck null and void.
The strangest but not the stupidest part of the quote above is that she states that backgroung checks would have cut down on gun deaths like the one in Newtown. The guns used in Newtown were taken from the shooters mother who bought them legally.
Sippy Cupp’s glasses are fake. No refraction.
I dont understand this either. Why would enacting gun laws (some that were on the books until only recently that would be reenacted) “infringe” on gun owners rights? Hell why have any gun laws at all? Taking La Pierres logic to an extreme why cant I have a full automatic weapon or a RPG? I would be a responsible RPG owner.
And don’t give her water — she’ll short circuit.
Bless you.
Of course, the neighborhoods she and her friends live in all have plenty of voting machines, I reckon.
I REALLY need sum doggies.
When I got on the elevator in this hotel just now, guess who was coming out? A nice lady and a STANDARD SPOTTED DACHSHUND. Just beautiful. Such a pleasure after a filthy day to see such a Gud Gurl making sure her Person was safe.
Come to think of it – if that nice lady could bring her Doggie to this hotel, why can’t I bring Arthur next week?
She probably had it wheeled to her front door.
willfull ignorance but that suggests an intelligence to come up with the strategy. i wonder who feeds sippycup aka useful idiot her lines. no one could be this consistantly wrong without help or by accident.
Wow, PITY teh poor poor poor benighted potential gun owner. SUCH a burden!!!
I happen to be applying for a job (I am truly grateful to be in the position where I don’t really need it due to great present job, but…). I am rapidly discovering that in today’s world, gathering this type of info is pretty much *standard procedure* anymore to obtain a jawb. The info may be “gathered” in somewhat devious ways, but believe me, these details are de rigueur, including being forced to agree to various credit checks, as well. In some cases, you also may be required to take a drug test (as was the case with a past job I had) and/or a medical exam.
Go piss up a rope, SippyCupp.
She’s a MAN baby!
Jeebus Ghu FSM, she’d have to provide a lot of that for almost anything, including a driver’s license. Certainly for licensing some firearms – my father had to provide his WW2 serial number. In 1993. (He was registering a horse-pistol, which BATF classifies as a sawed-off shotgun.)
(And my last employer did require a drug test. So did the one before that.)
Man! Talk about shallow. Does she have a “Born to Shop” bumper sticker, too? Waaaaah!!!!!
We’ve had our differences, TBogg, but I’m with you on this one.
Sheesh.
Dunno what that word is, but they’re all nur scheiße labern (full of shit)
Transphobe Arschloch are ya??
Considering Stupid Sippy just got herself sooooooo bitch slapped on the very same issue by a quite awesome Martin Bashir (confirming my suspicion that he hates her but considers the other 3 Cycle kids to practically be his own children), in which she signed off looking like an enraged wet cat, you’d THINK she’d have sense enough to keep her yap shut. But no…
SippyCup frequently also likes to posit absurd “what if” questions to progressive Cycle guests, much along the lines of “Why would you have sex knowing that your partner might sometime go to a party without you, get drunk, have sex with someone else and give you an STD?”. Even after the guest invariably disproves her painfully weak strawman, she’ll sit there smiling smugly—-while everyone else looks completely embarassed for her.
No kidding! I’ve been trying to get a laboratory job these last weeks and I’ve had to provide my “personal information” to one company or another about ten million times over. I guess it’s only evil if the government asks, or something.
It’s, like…some bizarre vestige of the rugged frontiersman pose that right-wingers love to strike. “Sure, I might be tied down by a hundred invisible bonds to my employer and my creditors and to all the other institutions that society requires me to deal with. But if I can get a gun without telling the government about it I’M OFF THE GRID BABY!”
Your groceries won’t kill me unless I’m coming over for dinner.
Ohhh, there working…..as the “Naughty Pundit” with a laser riding crop!
Oooh, la,la!
Hilarious!! I know – right? Like these are the same bumfuck yahoos who are all DOWN with the Patriot Act under the reign of W. and had no problema with wiretapping & shit. Then it was all: if you don’t have anything to hide, why do you care if the US gubmint taps your phone?? It keeps us safe from terrissss!!
But filling out a form to buy a gun is a major loss of their freedumbs!111!
What a buncha peckerheaded maroons. Shee…
I taught math to eighth graders and high school kids in Virginia back in the sixties. I had a recommendation from a friend who taught there and a personal interview with the principal. I was hired and taught for three years. Same situation in another school in North Carolina after that. No background check, drug test or psychological exams. I was hired and taught for two years.
I tried another career path, land surveying, worked in that field until the Big Shitpile hit. Work disappeared every where. People who had been in the business for thirty years closed their doors and stayed home.
I was old enough to retire but only with Social Security, not enough to keep afloat financially.
I decided to try substitute teaching in Georgia. Seemed like a good idea at the time. After a year of chasing down transcripts from everywhere I had had a class in anything, background checks for criminal records, fingerprint checks with the local police and the FBI, and drug testing, I asked a local Superintendent of schools what dress codes were expected (surveyors don’t have one). He said “I LET my teacher’s wear dungarees on Fridays”. The job pays eight dollars an hour, thirty kids you don’t know per hour, six hours a day, in several different schools in the system.
I can go to a local gun show and buy a semi automatic weapon and ammo without any of that hassle and take it to the nearest school and blow away half the people there.
I think Wayne LaDick is an abomination and needs to be restrained.
It’s frickin amazing, isn’t it?? Both the insane rigamarole just to get a frickin job & the insane whining about gun regulations. NUTS. I might add that when you do finally GET a job then you have to provide all kinds of proof of citizenship. But hey doncha ast me muh name when I wants a gun.
Thanks for that. And I’m sure Wayne doesn’t give a rat’s ass if an ex-felon buys an assault weapon. But vote? Oh, hell no, we can’t have that. We gotta have lots and lots of paperwork to vote because maybe the wrong people might vote. By the way, what is the NRA’s stand on non-citizens purchasing firearms?
I watched the testimony of that poor ER doctor from Newtown tonight and I was thinking, how could we force Wayne LaPierre to admit victims of shootings into trauma centers, especially when they are children? And, would it do any good? I’m not sure. I’m exhausted by cruelty and stupidity.,
Austin Powers fan is all. don’t read so much bullshit into an attempt at humor
Now who’s the asshole.
At the risk of seeming insensitive, I’d point out that no one will be checking your mental health status if you don’t try to purchase a gun. Surely the law would make it illegal to check the database without your personally filled out and signed paperwork, on which you would have to write your SSN and other info. So, as long as you didn’t give a gun shop owner permission by wanting to get yourself a nice pistola to end it all (not recommended, by the way, so inconsiderate — what a mess!), I sincerely doubt the national gun check hotline would be telling any of your friends, neighbors or random countrymen anything they didn’t already know.
