I really wanted to do this Jonah (Liberal Fascism: From Justin To Kelly) Goldberg NRO post as a "Shorter Pantload" but, to paraphrase Bull Durham, ‘he writes like he fucks, sorta all over the place".

What it boils down to is this: John McCain is very very old, ancient actually, and what the Republicans need for him to do is to win the election and then hold on for four years while the Republicans get themselves off of life support. And the best way for McCain to get elected is to select a Democrat as his running mate.

Just soak in that for awhile. I’ll wait.

I’m not sure how the Republicans are going to be able to "rebuild their brand" (buzz phrase du jour) in four years by driving away the 20% of true believers that they still have left. Usually when we see such an elaborate well-thought-out plan such as this it involves large packages from companies with names beginning with Acme and much tinkering and clanging off-screen.

I’m not sure if his plan might actually work but it would be kind of fun to watch the guys over at Red State go all Red Dawn on their own party’s ass.
