In defense of John McCain

While there is no defense for John McCain for linking his love of ABBA with his being shot down over Vietnam (particularly when, by extension, that’s also his main qualification for being Commander in Chief) ABBA’s Waterloo is  a pretty good pop song and would have been much more acceptable answer than Dancing Queen.

Although Waterloo’s refrain  of :

Waterloo – I was defeated, you won the war

…. might have been interpreted as a coded admission that we lost the war in Vietnam when everyone knows that it was totally a tie.

I guess McCain could have gone for a bit more coolness factor if he had chosen the Byrds Eight Miles High  or the Animals Sky Pilot, which are more from his generation. Then again he could have really gone for the kill with Alice In Chains Man in the Box. Then we would think that he was being  all broody and darkly ironic.

But we’d still vote for Obama.
