The boss is back in town, so I’m gonna skedaddle back to First Draft (and remember, THAT THING WITH THE CHINCHILLA NEVER HAPPENED) but first, the ferrets. This is Bucky, taking the semi-respectable thing we bought to store his toys in and turning it into his own personal nesting ground: And here’s a blast from [...]

John Stossel thinks you poor people should just quit your bitching: Yes, some people have suffered during the recession — but compared to all the other countries in the history of the world, America is rich. Yeah, sure, some people are eating dog food and living in their cars, but hey, it totally makes your [...]

Steve Chapman finds a nut: One study cited in Peter Brimelow’s 1996 anti-immigration screed, “Alien Nation,” found that 15 percent of new Hispanic mothers whose babies were born in southern California hospitals said they came over the border to give birth, with 25 percent of that group saying they did so to gain citizenship for [...]

David Brooks worries that that nice boy Stan McChrystal would never have been fired if these kids would just cut their hair and stop smoking so much goddamn dope all the time: Then, after Vietnam, an ethos of exposure swept the culture. The assumption among many journalists was that the establishment may seem upstanding, but [...]

So in the comments to last week’s dingo post, people asked what it was like actually living with these critters, and I responded that it was like living with a two-year-old, in that they get into EVERYTHING, and always want to be with you, and whenever you turn your back they’re doing something you told [...]

Public school classrooms sponsored by gun shops and God. AWESOME: At Combee Elementary [in Lakeland], funding for basic school supplies is down 33%, says principal Steve Comparato. In recent months, he’s received donations from a local fertilizer company and a grocery chain. But Combee’s most active sponsor is First Baptist Church at the Mall, a [...]

But what HAS Charles Krauthammer been thinking about the BP oil spill? “Part of the reason oil companies are drilling a mile beneath the surface of the ocean,” said Obama, is “because we’re running out of places to drill on land and in shallow water.” Running out of places on land? What about the Arctic [...]

Guys, seriously, the narcissism: The reasons for Obama’s decline in popularity in the Muslim world could find their origins in any number of perceptions. Perhaps he lost approbation with his orders for more troops in Afghanistan and the ongoing American military presence in the land of the Taliban. It is also possible that Obama is [...]

Reading Susan’s post here, I was reminded of my grandfather. Grandpa gave most of his advice with his actions, but he once told me, “Don’t marry a man who is mean to the waitress.” Grandpa was bit of a flirt with the wait staff. Didn’t matter if we were just going out for $2 burgers, [...]
Reaching Rock Bottom, Starting to Dig |

I started reading blogs via Salon during the very start of the Dean campaign, which makes me like grandma over here in the rocking chair bitching about these kids today and why they need to take pictures with their phones. I was jacked into the Matrix during the worst of the Bush administration’s offenses and [...]
